Chapter 5
~Rise to the Day~
It rained in Kemet. It rained more than it had in several years. Liquid gold that Amoset decided to grace them with. Lightning had flared in the sky for days, never making any hast to give in to Ra’s light.
It was as though Ra was crying, waiting for his child to take his kingdom.
Atemu sat on the golden throne his father had once occupied. He had not seem much of his whipping boy the last few days, having dealt with his parents’ deaths and was now starting his duties as Pharaoh of Kemet. Crimson eyes looked dully ahead, showing no emotion at all, having stowed it all away after he had been found.
He did not remember much, but from what Isis knew, Yuugi had been cradling his head in his lap, trying to keep him calm while the Pharaoh slept.
The great pharaoh sighed, gazing up so he did not see Seth. His cousin was standing there, looking at him expectantly, as though he was supposed to do something. He was tiered, there were large black bags under his eyes, and his father’s counsel expected him to listen to what was going on with his people?! The new lord had half a mind to kill them all, but he closed his eyes and every time he reconsidered, the image of his mother’s room replaying in his head.
He never figured out how Yuugi had known his mother was a child of Amoset, yet the proof had been staring at him in the face. He began to wonder how long she had been a member when his eyes grew dark, and he remembered, Yuugi was the leader of the anti-Pharaonic people.
Every time he thought about it, his mind reeled. He seemed to grow more and more bitter at the boy, wanting to yell at him, tell him it was all his fault. His eyes grew clouded once more as he thought. How could it have been his fault though? Yuugi had been punished for not doing anything, for being unable to control who he was. Yuugi’s parents had been killed at the hands of his father. How could it have been the boy’s fault.
Atemu lost his mother twice, but never once did he actually see her die. He could not say the same for the angelic creature who had taken residence in his room.
He gazed at the men of his father’s counsel with tiered eyes, hardly even noticing their worried glances as he started to nod off. It was his cousin who startled him into alertness with a warm hand upon his shoulder. “Per A’ah, perhaps it is time you got some rest. I will ask Isis to stop by your rooms.” He looked knowingly at the Pharaoh.
Atemu had not slept well since the incident. His dreams kept playing out every time he closed his eyes. He could see red wine everywhere. Sweet red wine, a crimson red that matched his eyes. He shuddered, nodding his head. “I thank you Seth.” He whispered, getting to his feet and looking to the other men. “Forgive me, we shall continue at a later date.” He nodded his head as he slowly started through the golden doors.
Once out of the sight of his men, the young lord slumped, resting his back against the wall. He stood there for a moment before he sighed deeply, making his way towards his living quarters. He figured Yuugi would be there, his innocent eyes staring at the world like the six year old boy he had been before his life was taken from him.
He pushed open the large doors and frowned. The Pharaoh looked around, spotting the large desk that was cluttered with scrolls that he had not remembered taking out. He frowned at this, but went back to scanning his room. The bed was empty, and there was no one on the balcony. He bet down low, trying to find the boy who should have been there. “Yuugi?”
There was no reply to Atmeu’s call and the young Pharaoh looked worried. “Yuugi where are you?” He fingered the ankh around his neck, staring a moment longer before starting to search deeper in his rooms. He looked at the bath house, noticing that it was filled with steamy waters. “Yuugi?” He called yet again, getting no response.
Backing out of the room, He decided to try another. The sitting room held many lavishly designed chairs, and a table filled with honey rolls, dates, and pomegranates. There was no sign of the boy in this room either. Atmeu looked to the closet where he kept the scrolls. “Yuugi?” He opened the door, noticing the torches were not lit, but there was a small candle that was on the floor. It looked as though it had rolled across the stony surface.
He took a step inside, letting his eyes gaze at the darkness. The light from his rooms seemed to flood into the void, giving him enough light to see by.
There, curled up on the floor, amidst several scrolls, lie the small figure he had been searching for. “Yuugi.” He breathed the name, sighing with relief. Slowly he picked up the figure, his crimson eyes looking him over for any wounds. Satisfied the boy had simply fallen asleep, Atemu made his way to his bed.
Once he was sure Yuugi was comfortably settled into the bed, Atemu crawled into the other side. Deep crimson curtains kept the outside light from getting into his personal sanctuary. Within moments he had closed his eyes, drifting into an unrestful slumber.
-Atemu’s dream-
It was dark, the young boy with bright crimson eyes stared at his mother, noticing he was crying. “Atemu, sweety.” She began to sob some more. “I-I am so sorry.” She shook her head, pushing her son away.
A hand came to rest on his shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze. “You mother is dead.” The man who’s hand it was whispered.
Atemu frowned, How could she be dead if she was right there? He would have voiced his query, but when he saw the once vibrant fire in his mother’s eyes dim out, he knew she was no longer the woman she had once bee, He knew his mother had died then. Tears spilled from his eyes, as he started to glare at the sand.
The darkness shifted, showing the same woman staring at a window. “Atemu.” She whispered the words, her voice frail. Her once golden skin was basking in the soft glow of a bloody moon. Her eyes seemed to glow in their bloodlust. “Forgive me for this burden that I place on you.”
Atemu could do nothing as he watched. The scene shifted to his father, the lifeless eyes staring at him. Though he was obviously dead, his voice still rang out. “Atemu, DEAD! Atemu die.” The words burned at the Pharaoh. “Atemu Kill!”
The scene shifted back to his mother as the knife positioned itself above her bosom. “MOTHER!” He cried out, but no sound same forth.
Before the knife went down he was surrounded by a warm glow. It seemed to calm him down at make the visions fade away. He felt arms wrap around him protectively and another heartbeat began to pulse with his, calming his pounding nerves.
-Kemet-
Yuugi peeled his eyes open when he felt something thrashing against him. His looked dazed for a moment, not remembering having actually fallen asleep. “Per A’ah?” He asked, noticing the thrashing was coming from the Pharaoh.
He slowly reached out, letting a small hand caress his face, moving down to his arms. Gently he placed himself between the Pharaoh’s arms, letting them wrap around him as his own arms found their way to snake around Atemu’s waist. “Hush.” He cooed like a mother would to her crying child.
Yuugi truly was an innocent creature. He harbored ho ill-will towards the man who had been the root of all his pain. He let out a deep and shaky breath, hoping he was doing well to calm the sleeping pharaoh. He had not seen hide nor tale of the teen since the night he had pulled the other from the wine-splashed bedroom.
Yuugi shuddered at the thought. That Angry crimson that he loved so much. His violet eyes shut once more as we drifted into a sleepless void.
Isis frowned, walking into the bedroom of her Pharaoh. “Per A’ah?” She whispered the title as her head went to the bed. If he was sleeping, she was sure he would be having nightmares. Seth had informed her to give him something to take the dreams far away.
Se was shocked when she saw the figures sleeping in each other’s embrace. Atemu showed no signs of unrest, and she was forced to sigh deeply. “Good night, little angel, Good night, My Pharaoh.” She whispered before slowly retreating back the way she had come, fearful of waking the sleeping teens.
Hours after he had fallen asleep, the young pharaoh woke, feeling warm and refreshed. He slowly let his eyes peel themselves open, gazing at the raven haired boy that held him close. “Yuugi?” He asked, almost puzzled. Had it been the boy who had chased away the images? The pharaoh wanted to think so. He smirked, a gesture that the boy seemed to be able to bring out of him.
Ra himself would have never been able to creature such a pure creature such as the raven haired boy. “Yuugi, are you awake?” He smiled again when hazy violet eyes looked up at him and the boy yawned.
“So you are awake.” The lord of all Kemet beamed down at the sleep-dazed boy.
Amethyst eyes blinked a few times before the boy responded. “Well, now I am.” He gave the other a bright smile that seemed to illuminate the enclosed space. “Did you sleep well Per A’ah?” He asked, his voice dripping with concern.
Puzzled for a moment, all Atemu could do was stare down into the heart warming figure. After a while he got his bearings back. “Yes, thanks to you.” He gently let the other go. “You really should get your own room though Yuugi.” He pushed the boy away, startling himself.
What was he doing?! Why had he been holding the boy? He was the Pharaoh of Kemet, a living god. He was to show no weakness lest the clan of Amoset... His thoughts trailed off. The leader of Amoset’s followers was lying right next to him.
Yuugi looked up with hurt violet eyes. “You are the son of Ra.” Yuugi whispered, his frail form still too small. “I am just your whipping boy.” Yuugi got up from the bed, bandages still covering his chest, a fresh white shenti was wrapped around his waist. The boy’s hips began to sway innocently as he walked away, somewhat crestfallen.
Atemu could only watch as the raven haired creature walked away. He was about to say something when the door shut and Yuugi was gone. His anger had gotten the better of him for a moment, and now he had drove away the boy he sought so desperately to protect.
What had he done?
