Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Time's Up ❯ Devlin meet Jaden ( Chapter 7 )

Again today Jaden went on ahead of Yugi to school. As she neared the school she heard a vehicle approach from behind her and shortly after drive past her. Considering it was a limo it wan't to hard to figure out the passenger within.

Jaden smile and thought to herslef in a fake mocking voice: 'Anything less would just be so unfit for Kaiba...'
she thought.

As a thought popped into her mind she frowned. She started to run ahead to cathc up with him. She reached him at the school just a few feet from the entrance. Just because she was unsure she decided to approach him from the side.

"Kaiba" she called softly. He stoppped walking and moved his head to the side lsightly to zero in on the person who'd dare bother him. At seeing Jaden approach him he kept his face blank. But inside he was wondering what the hell she wanted.

"How's Mokuba doing?" she asked. Not bothering with any formalities or offering an apology of any sort for anything lately.

Kaiba had learned long ago to not let anything-schock or surprise-show on his face. NOw he stared back down at her. Her eyes were seeking out his for an answer.

Kaiba cared deeply for his brother. Subconsciously he knew that if he ever left this world too soon he'd turn into a true monster. And he knew she had prevented taht day from coming.

Jaden watched him lower his head and narrow his eyes at her. She thought for a moment he'd walk away and ignore her. His reaction stunned her instead.

"He asks about you." he fianlly growled out.

"Is he ok?" she asked back.

"He's been throught worse. He's tough."

"Like someone else I know. Or maybe I just mean stubborn."

Kaiba stared at her then closed his eyes as if to think to himself for a moment. He looked towards the school and started talking.

"After school come home with me and you can see him." When he turned back to look at her she nodded once. That's all he needed.

"Good. You waiting for anyone?" he growled out. Jaden simply short him a look and walked ahead of him into the school. Kaiba stood where he was for a moment staring at her departing, a small smile playing on his lips.

***At lunch***

Jaden saw Tea` and the others at their usual spot outside eating lunch and went over to join them. She found a free spot in between Tea` and Tristan and sat down after asking. Since it was so warm outside today, most of the student body took off their school blazers to cool down and enjoy the outside sun on their skin. Jaden also had hers removed and her millenium bracelet was in plain sight for anyone to catch a look at. Tristan stared at Jaden's for a second before returning his attention to the sandwich before him.

Jadne was aware of the look that Tristan had sent out at her bracelet. She didn't boether to ask him about it thought. Some people just have problems of their own...and she didn't want to be caught up in them. Even if the person who had the problem was pretty damn cute.

Jaden was munching on an apple when Tea` nudged her. Jaden swallowed what she was eating and looked over to her.

"Jaden, this is Duke Devlin. He was away for a bit on a trip but now he'll be back in school with the rest of us. Duke, Jaden just recently came to Domino High and is in our level." Tea` perkily introduced the two to each other.

Jaden looked Devlin over and was surprised that she hadn't noticed him sitting next to Joey and Yugi when she sat down. She smiled at him.

"Hey." she said simply.

He nodded at her but paused when he saw her bracelet on her arm.

"Nice piece of jewelry there Jaden". he said said. Jaden shrugged.

"Thanks. Are you one of them too?" She asked. Frankly she thought that the millenium bearers seem to be sprouting up around her like some damned rabbits.

Devlin widened his eyes at her and laughed a little.

"No and I'm thankful for it." he said.

"Yeah, Lucky you." she said and smiled at him. She felt someone approach her from behind and looked up above her.

"Ah, Devlin. Welcome back to Domino High." Bakura said. He was standing over Jaden closely. Devlin took note of the possesion that radiate from Bakura to Jaden. He'd have to find out more about that.

"Hey Bakura, nice to see you again man. It's nice to be back and not traveling around, promoting Dungeon Dice monsters." Devlin said.

Bakura nodded and looked at Devlin for a moment more before dropping down to sit next to Jaden behind her.

"Hey Jaden. How are you doing?" he asked softly. Jaden felt goosebumps run up her arms and just as quickly ignored the feelings.

"Good, can't wait for the day to end and the weekend to begin. You?" she asked him back.

"The same. Have any plans for the weekend yet?".

"Not yet."

Bakura nodded and leaned back to get a good look at her...and the bracelet that was resting on her arm. Jaden thought he'd say something more and when he didn't she want back to the conversation in front of her.

A couple yards away, directly behind Joey and Devlin sat Kaiba under a tree eating and occasionally hitting a button or two on his laptop. When Bakura came over and sat down next to Jaden, he frowned and watched the two. Jaden looked up and locked eyes with him for a moment before she diverted her eyes back to Tea` and what she had said.

Jaden wondered why Kaiba was looking over at them and then shrugged if off before answering Tea`s question.

Lunch ended and the last two classes before the weekend came began. Kaiba and Jaden shared the same last class at the end of the day. When it was over he stood up and waited while she got her things together. When she stood up she was surprised to see him waiting for her.

"Still coming?" he asked. She nodded and he turned around and left.She hefted her book bag onto her shoulder and followed him out.
