-Before Time-
Ryou walked up the school steps carrying the purring black cat. He found it quite cuddly even after it was being hurled at him at 5 miles per hour. Of course, he couldn’t take it with him into the school but he hoped it had a good home to go to. Ryou looked up into the sky, feeling the warm breeze push at his hair. Malik had dropped him off at the steps and told that he’d meet up with Ryou a bit later. The white haired teen closed his eyes and smiled contentedly, he had a friend. Sure Malik is one hell of a friend to have and Yugi did consider him a friend; however, he felt the others in Yugi’s posse didn’t think of him as much as Yugi did. Though that could’ve been because of the way his yami had treated everyone in the beginning. Nevertheless, Ryou was grateful for his two friends and having his pain in the ass yami back. For some reason, while Bakura was gone, Ryou didn’t feel truly whole. And ever since Bakura came back, he felt normal again. And that was also the time Malik had come back to Domino with his sister.
//So, does this mean you forgive me, Ryou? // Bakura asked, interrupting Ryou’s thoughts. Ryou let out a sigh of exasperation before deciding to ignore his yami.
//Ryou!// Bakura pleaded, //I did nothing wrong. All I did was sleep over at Malik’s house because he had invited me! //
Ryou side glanced at his transparent yami and gave such a heartless glare that even Bakura was shocked, /Bakura, I’d prefer to die than listen to another one of your lies. I will never trust you until you are worthy of it. That is the last time you will have my body for your amusement. I will not speak to you no more. Go away and leave me alone. /
Bakura was rightfully outraged that he could do nothing but stare until Ryou had looked away. Bakura wasn’t lying! And he wanted to tell Ryou the truth but Ryou wouldn’t listen. Bakura couldn’t stand it; all he could do now is seethe with suppressed rage and jolt back into the ring before he made matters worse.
"Ryou-kun!" Yugi ran up to Ryou, a cheerful smile ever stuck on his face. Yugi’s posse gathered around behind the boy.
“Eh? Ryou-kun? Are you ok?” The short tri-hair colored teen noted a few tears that threatened to escape the sides of Ryou’s soft chocolate eyes. Ryou wondered what he meant but remembered that he was quite frustrated with his yami and that’s what had caused his friends worry. It had been growing worse and worse over the few months that Bakura had returned that it began to overfill Ryou’s mind. Oh, how the young teen wanted to tell Yugi what was the real problem; however, he didn’t want to trouble him and didn’t want Yugi’s yami to appear and start another fight with Bakura. Especially since the others didn’t know that his yami had returned. Ryou also didn’t want to tell them because it would’ve also made Jounouchi and Honda suspicious if he was the real Ryou or if he was Bakura.
“Iie, it’s nothing to worry about Yugi.” Ryou wiped his eyes with his shirt sleeve and gave a sincere smile.
"Oh, what a cute kitty!" Anzu cooed, reaching for the cat before it hissed and slashed at her outstretched hand. The brunette yelped and held her hand to her chest. “Heh, heh, where did you find it?” Anzu said playing off her scare.
Ryou blinked a few times before answering, “Um… You’re not going to believe this but Ishizu threw it at me.” Ryou nervously scratched the back of his head while sweat dropping.
“You’re right we don’t believe it,” Honda said as a round of sweat drops occur throughout the posse. The breeze picks up, along with it, Malik whistling. Anzu, Jounouchi, and Honda turned to look towards the school and found Malik right in front of them, his hands on his head and an impish grin on his face. Anzu shrieked while Honda hid behind her yelling out ‘human shield’ repeatedly.
“Yo,” Malik said, waving towards Yugi and Jounouchi as the other two had began an argument that a man should protect the woman but of course no one cared. They were the disposable other characters that almost every show needs. Yugi waved back, smiling. Jounouchi stared suspiciously before waving.
“So, how does it feel to be living in Domino?” Yugi darts his eyes around searching for a topic that would be more interesting.
“Oh, it’s good,” Malik nods his head, putting his hand in the air, palm to the sky. “Nice weather though. The scorching hot sands can’t compare.”
Jou rubs his shoulder and looks off to the side before running his hand through his hair. Yugi taps the front of his right foot on the concrete ground before switching to the other foot and adjusting his backpack on his back. Anzu and Honda remained arguing in the background. Ryou uncomfortably tapped his foot at the silence and inhaled deeply finding nothing better to do.
“So!” Malik and Jounouchi said in unison. The two glared into each others eyes. Ryou looked to ground suddenly not feeling too good; he was lost in his own thoughts and couldn’t be disturbed until the blonds began yelling at each other.
“Ahem… My hair is platinum blonde.” Malik glares and snorts to the sky. He runs his hand through his hair, cuing the sparkle motion and dramatic bishonen music.
“Who is he talking to?” Anzu inquired, interrupted from her tug-of-war battle with Honda.
“I have no clue.” Honda rightfully sweat dropped then pushed Anzu backwards, knocking her on her butt.
‘Oh, right’ said the disembodied voice that only Malik can hear. ‘You’re right.’
“Of course I’m right. I’m the hottest bishonen out there.” Malik crossed his arms, closed his eyes, and stood smug with himself. A round of sweat drops were had when Malik miraculously realized the neko still in Ryou’s arms.
“Hey! Wasn’t he the cat my sister threw at us?” Malik exclaimed, waving his arms frantically in the air.
“What?! You really did go to this insane-o’s house?!” Jounouchi stared, his eyes wide with shock.
“Dude, you believed Malik instead of Ryou?” Honda raised an eyebrow; however, he was unheard.
“Ah! We’re going to be late to class!” Anzu jumped up, smacked Honda over the head and ran towards the school. She stopped, turned around, a finger on her chin thoughtfully, “Bye! Yugi! Ryou-kun and Jounouchi-kun!” She waved enthusiastically before skipping away.
Honda death glared at the fleeting girl, rubbing the back of his head. Everyone quickly checked their watches.
“Welp, it’s about time I head back to the old dusty trail.” Honda slung his pack over his shoulder and grabbed Jounouchi’s arm. “If I have to suffer through another of Anzu’s friendship speeches this morning, you’re coming too.”
Jounouchi laughed nervously and sweat dropped. The two turned and waved good-bye before marching off through the two glass doors.
“Maybe we should head to class too?” Ryou suggested. Yugi nodded in agreement; however, as luck would have it (or me actually) the neko, who was being teased by the dark skinned teen at the moment, lunged out at Malik and clung to his face.
“Ahhh! Get this mangy feline off of me! Damn it!” Malik shouted, flailing about and scaring a few passersby.
“Malik stop struggling! The nails will dig deeper into your skin if you do!” Yugi shouted then looked to Ryou quizzically, “Or was that porcupines?”
Malik ran in wild circles, causing a major ruckus and he, himself, tripping over a trash can. The neko released his victim and scurried away, tail high in the air, in agitation. Ryou and Yugi were quickly at Malik’s side, shouting out their ‘are you okays’ when, from the megaphones high on the building rang out a warning to any other students who weren’t in their seats yet. Ryou and Yugi looked up in horror before dashing off to their classroom before the last bell could ring.
“Gomen nasai! Sensei!” Both shouted upon entering their first class of the day, tired and out of breath.
“Ah. Good of you to join us Bakura-san and Mutou-san. And congratulations, you now have detention today!”
