-Now I‘m Gone-

Yugi lazily stared at the black board with his arms draped over the front of his desk. He loathed this class for its dull tendencies. The event that happened earlier was nothing more than a fleeting memory on how it was in the outside world. It felt like Yugi had ridden millions of roller coasters one after another, having the time of his life, then realizing that the theme park would be torn down the next day. And for what? To build a factory that made black boards that weren’t even black!

‘I don't feel like doing school work…’ Yugi griped to himself with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face. In Yugi’s mind he heard a slight chuckle from Yami at the irrelevant thoughts clouding the shorter teens mind and soaked in the knowledge spewing forth from the teacher’s mouth. Yami was enthralled at the knowledge of today’s day and age and greatly wished he had a body to take notes.

/If you’re so excited about math, go ahead and math away!/ Yugi played with a strand of hair and balanced a pencil on his nose as he ‘spoke’ to his other half nonchalantly. Yami, of course was perplexed at the improper word usage and gave a ‘must-be-some-sort-of-modern-lingo’ look before returning his attention back to the teacher.

“Blah blah blargedy blah blah… Variable,” The teacher spoke while scribbling numbers and letters all over the board in a messy, rushed, handwriting. Yugi groaned, dropping the pencil and letting his head fall onto the desk with an inaudible thump.

//Oi, Aibou? // Yami’s voice was full of concern but this didn’t really get Yugi to look up. Yugi mumbled something incoherently and sprawled out onto his desk watching the clouds drift by from his window seat.

Taking that his light wouldn’t respond Yami blurted out what he was going to say anyways, //Ryou doesn‘t seem well.// This time Yugi couldn’t help but look and worry as his eyes fell upon his best friend three seats away, clutching his stomach and his face contorted in pain.

‘Why do I feel so sick right now?’ Ryou spoke to himself slowly; trying each word out to make sure the pain wouldn’t rise up against him once again.

\Maybe you should’ve eaten, \ Bakura remarked casually from the depths of Ryou’s mind. Ryou ignored his yami’s advice, saying it was too late now and that it was his entire fault. Ryou also thought that if he yelled at Bakura for a bit maybe the hunger would be filled; however, his head hurt at the thought of acknowledging Bakura’s existence for the sake of his own well being, he was a good person after all. At that moment Ryou’s stomach issued forth a small growl, informing he really was hungry. A girl next to him heard the growl, pausing in the middle of sneaking out a piece of bread she had in her backpack for lunch. Ryou sweat dropped and thanked her as she parted a piece for him as well as herself. Returning to his work Ryou picked up his pencil and began writing again now that his strength had come back a little.

\\Thanks a lot Bakura. Now I feel guilty for taking some of her lunch.\\

\Hey, she gave that food to you of her own accord! You don’t have to repay gratitude.\ Bakura’s voice echoed through Ryou’s thoughts.

\\So says the tomb robber.\\ Ryou was returned with a snort then a very long, suspicious pause,

\The answer is 42...\

Ryou blinked, curious of what he meant. Bakura’s transparent form appeared and pointed down at the open textbook in front of his lighter half. The teen followed the finger to the page and stared at his paper. Quickly calculating the problem Ryou almost screamed in astonishment.

\\Wow! I didn't know you could figure out complex math problems let alone find your way out of a paper bag!\\ Ryou was ever so clearly amazed and thought that maybe beneath all of Bakura’s jackass, bastard, act was someone who was as intellectual as himself.

Bakura glared, \Jeez, give me some credit.\

Yugi had returned to griping, mumbling incoherently, and staring at the world outside. Earlier Yugi was chastising Yami for making Yugi worry when everything turned out right. Yugi promised himself to thank the girl for helping his friend but for now he had more important matters to contemplate,

‘Tree, bush, woman, grass…’ Yugi stated in a monotone voice, once again twirling his hair. It was a game that he had just created: to point out all that you could name and see if someone notices the one thing wrong you said. That someone, of course, was Yami, ‘Bee, chair, building, car, flying pig’s feet…’

//What?!// Yamis' transparent form appeared next to Yugi, in a quick haste he peered out the window then realized that his picture for today would be next to the word ‘gullible’. Yugi held back his laughter as the teacher passed by his desk and gave a disappointed ’tsk, tsk’ that Yugi had not even begun his school work. Yugi quickly picked up his pencil, muttering a ‘gomenasai sensei’, and pretended to do his work. As soon as the teacher turned her back Yugi already had his pencil down and was breathing a sigh of relief.

//The Pharaoh always gets his way. // Yami gave a cocky grin, floating over Yugi’s shoulder.

/Urusei! I almost got in trouble again! /

//You're the one who got my attention.//

/And you believed me. / Yugi smiled at his other self. Yami smirked back, letting the victory go to his light for once and retreated to the puzzle. Yugi, with nothing better to do (which excluded school work), returned to naming random objects outside.

<Man, bicycle, bird...> Yugi lost interest, sighed, and decided to actually do his work instead of putting it off for his upcoming adventure in detention. What joy? Either way, he thought, I’m going to be naming random objects for an entire period sometime or another.

//Bakura…// Yugi heard and felt the anger rising in his Yami as he said those words. Yugi turned his gaze Ryou and found a transparent Bakura glaring back at Yami as he hovered over Ryous' small form. Said boy cheerfully, ignorantly, doing his work his pencil scribbling back and forth.

\\Pharaoh…\\ Bakura practically laughed out his name and licked his lips; he found his prey and now was the fun part.

//Bakura…// Yami reiterated (as if saying his name twice would do anything), staring back with a placid look upon his face.

/Mouhitori no boku…/ Yugi was staring, unsure of what calamity would be caused this time. There usually was a reason for Bakura’s returns but this one stumped both Yugi and Yami. Nothing special was going on and nothing exciting has really happened… Or was there?

Yami and Bakura approached each other, each baring their fangs and ready to pounce. Yugi could’ve sworn that they’d be circling one another by now. Like a hungry hyena and a protective lion.

\Ooh! Bakura I want you to try to solve this one now! / Ryou turned, dropped his pencil, and gapped in shock at the dilemma that had already begun. One, he would be interrogated on how Bakura had returned and be constantly under check to see if anything bad was going on. Well, there was but Ryou knew he could handle it but he didn’t want Yugi to know already. What if Yugi, his friend and only friend, gets upset about not being told? Honda and Jounouchi had just gotten used to having Ryou around but if the secret of Bakura’s return got out?

‘Is Yami going to send Bakura back to the shadow realm? Wait, why do I care? Why am I afraid of him leaving me? I shouldn't care? I'm lonely?! What? But I-’ Ryou shook his head to clear away all the thoughts that bombarded him. His mind was going on an over drive with questions and fears. Ryou shook his head once again then looked up to Yugi, showing he was miserable but all at once not wanting anything bad to happen.

/Mouhitori no boku, don’t hurt him Ryou’s-/ Bakura cut in growling,

"Oh, I want you to hurt me Pharaoh. Then I would have an all out excuse to kick your ass," Bakura spoke as if reading Yugi's and Yami’s mind. "I'm just here to make everyone’s life a living hell. And when I’m done I’m taking you down with me.”

Yami was unfazed by Bakuras' threat but stood his ground awaiting an attack of some sort. However, Yami was facing towards Ryou’s direction and only then did he notice the look Ryou gave: Ryou was being eaten alive by his emotions. He didn’t want to no longer be alone but did that mean he had to suffer to be with others? No, suffering was every where in Ryou’s life. He was alone as a child whenever his father and mother were off on expeditions. He was alone when his mother died. He was alone when Bakura killed his friends at his old school. And he was alone when he was trapped at Bakura’s mercy. The one friend he had gained here was something he could not let Bakura take. Yugi was like him; he was alone once and he knew how Ryou felt. And he had a yami. Sure Yugi’s yami was different from Ryou’s but it felt great knowing Yugi would stay friends with him even when Bakura showed up. If Yugi was gone, he would be alone again.

‘No... Why are my eyes tearing up? What's happening?’ Ryou shoved those thoughts away again. Not wanting to feel alone again he trembled, letting tears slide down his face, ‘No… I won’t let Bakura take my only friend away! I won’t let Bakura hurt my only friend! Not the way he did to me! I won’t! I won’t!’

“Yugi…” Ryou spoke out loud, softly at first then repeated himself stronger and persistent, “Yugi.”

The entire class turned their attention between the two boys. One was crying while the other was speechless. The teacher, worriedly, moved to Ryou’s side and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. No one knew the event that was occurring before their eyes…

“Yugi, send him away…” Ryou tried again between sobs, “Send him away now!”

Now Yami and Bakura were speechless. No one moved and because of that Ryou yelled louder,

“Send him away now, Yami!!”

Bakura growled and charged towards Ryou seeming to attack but instead he stood looking down at the innocent version of himself. Ryou stared back, eyes full of fear while Bakura eyes were dark, mysterious, and deadly. And Ryou couldn’t get passed the hate that flowed through them. He closed his eyes, shutting out Bakura’s image as darkness came and took away his dark. A deep hole was left within himself and Ryou knew it. Yami put his hand down and looked to the floor grieving. Ryou listened to the last thoughts that drifted through his mind from his darker half, \\Ryou…\\, before the voice drifted away.

And no one moved…
