Chapter Three

A month had passed almost. It was Christmas Eve, and Seto had surprised them all by throwing a surprise party, just for the hell of it. Currently the billionaire was kneeling by the Christmas tree, fiddling with the decorations to make them look just right. His face showed that of a happy man, content now with how his life had been going. The reason for that was the night before, when he'd been convinced of a secret he now held dear. Last night had been his only night with Yami in a sexual sense, but it had shown him a lot more than the fact that Yami was a great sex partner. He glanced up and noticed with a small happy sigh, the tri-colored teen across the room. He was talking to Bakura and Malik at the moment, but Seto was just content to watch him for the moment.

Yami, on the other hand, was not in such high spirits. He had a lot on his mind, especially concerning the one watching him. He wasn't going to let Seto break it off with him… he would be the one to break it off first. But his mind kept drifting to the night before, giving him an almost pleasant distraction, yet making Yugi constantly go red because of their mental link. Last night had been perfect, and though Seto had seemed surprisingly hesitant, it had strengthened his resolve to be the one to break it instead of letting himself be hurt when Seto decided to do so. He knew the other boy had a one-month limit for relationships. "… I think I'm going to break up with Seto tonight," he said quietly. He was among Seto's only friends, and he knew they wouldn't take kindly to it.

"Why would you? He's head over heels and you know it." Malik sounded a bit shocked to say the least. He'd been on the phone for a long time last night with Seto…and had found some rather shocking things out.

"He does care for you a lot Yami…surely you know that." Bakura slipped his hand into Malik's, eyes finding his now-lover's with a gentle concern. He'd seen the way their friend had been acting all night… like he was on cloud nine and nothing could bring him down. "Are you sure that's what you want to do?"

"I am. I'm not going to let him be the one to break up with me." Yami turned on his heel and walked away from them, eyes trained on the brunette now adjusting small presents by the tree. He WOULD break up with him. Now was the time.

Malik sighed softly. "Yami is making the mistake of his life," he told the white-haired teen beside him. He was quiet for a moment more, conscious of Bakura laying his head on his shoulder with a sigh. "Did Seto ever tell you of his past Bakura?"

"No, he didn't… naze?" Bakura blinked chocolate-hued eyes up at Malik, wondering what that had to do with anything at the moment.

"I guess you'll probably find out tonight.." Malik watched with growing dread as the taller of the two tri-colored hair teens stopped in front of their friend.

"Seto?" Yami was disconcerted to find Seto humming the song "Let It Snow!" to himself, even more-so when he turned warm blue eyes up on him before standing, the tune's dying strains all but drifting away.

"Yes Yami?" The taller teen kept his voice soft; in sync with the mood he was in at the moment.

"You remember how you told me you were always the one asking…that it was a first for you to be the one asked out?" Yami forced his face to be expressionless, looking up at him. All his boyfriend could do was nod, a confused look spreading on his face. "Well I'm going to be the one to break it off. We're through." He turned and walked away quickly, not noticing or wanting to notice the hand that rose as if to stop him then instead fisted over his heart, a hurt expression crossing over now vulnerable features. As soon as he was outside, he disappeared, closing himself in his soul room without even letting Yugi talk to him. He knew Yugi was making excuses and leaving rather quickly himself to go home.

Seto stared after Yami for an indeterminable amount of time before closing his eyes, letting out a shaky breath. He looked over the people gathered in his home, searching out his little brother where he was playing a board game with one of his other little friends. He went over silently, tapping his brother on the shoulder and taking his hand when he stood up and drawing him upstairs. As they went, he spoke quietly, "Mokuba, I want you to pack a couple suitcases… we're going to take a trip."

"But where? It's Christmas Eve, `niichan! We can't just leave.." Mokuba tugged on his hand lightly, freeing it from Seto's grip. He looked up at his brother's face, blinking a bit at the desperate look in his blue eyes behind a sheen of tears. He wouldn't ask questions anymore. "Alright… I'll go and pack…" He went silently into his own room and pulled out a duffel bag that would be more than adequate.

Seto headed into his own room, placing a call on his cell phone quickly to the air port and booking a flight OUT of Japan. They would be going to New York for now…hopefully they could find a place to stay there. He tossed some things into a suitcase and a small case to carry with him, turning to a sheet of paper soon enough and writing out a note to two friends that were currently downstairs, and more than likely worried about him.

Malik and Bakura were currently getting ready to leave, already having ushered people out of the house for Seto's benefit. They were heading to Yugi's game shop under Malik's persistence, in order to try and knock some sense into Yami. Had they only stayed a moment longer, they would have seen Seto at the top of the stairs holding his bags and awaiting Mokuba to come with him to the limo. The Kaiba brothers were on the way to the airport and on their plane within the hour, heading for New York City.
