Chapter Five:
Ryou's POV
I sighed as I closed the door to my hotel room. I leaned against the frame and slid down. After running that one block I was hoping I didn't look suspicious. So I get another letter. Right after finding out that Bakura is going to Yugi's house WILLINGLY. I wonder what I've been missing. As long as no one cares I'm gone, I think I'll survive. I grabbed my backpack and took out the note. It was baby blue this time. Same writting and it still said 'To Ryou'. I opened it carefully, making sure not to rip it in any way. Inside it wrote:
Dearest Ryou,
You ran away did you? Why? From all of your friends, and me. Dear dear Ryou. Why do you do this? Hopefully you will go back home. Your Yami and friends miss you dearly. So do I. Please come back Ryou.
That was freakishly scary. How did he know? HOW WOULD HE KNOW THAT YAMI MISSED ME? HMM? heh... getting carried away. How did he know that I left? Maybe, Bakura told Yugi and them, but is he part of the group? I mean, Bakura doesn't talk to anyone. Hmmm... maybe this guy overheard Bakura telling them. Then again why would Bakura tell them anyway? This is so confusing! I sighed again. It isn't fair how life always does this to me. Always giving me questions with absoulutly no answer. Oh well. Life isn't fair right? Right.
I got up from my current position and walked across the room. I turned the TV on and flipped through the channels. Nothing good on. Might as well read I guess. I grabbed my book from the desk and I fell on the bed then started to read. I took out my laptop and turned on some music. I didn't seem to notice my gold ring which had mysteriously appeared near the closet door.
Bakura's POV (Finally! Mwhahaha...)
Hmmm... where is that Ryou? Sure I felt sorta awkward after the whole ordeal on Saturday, but he was gone for awhile! I thought he just had to think it through and then come back, but it seems that he left FOR GOOD. Hopefully not. After I slipped the note into his locker I waited for him behind the trashcan. I knew he was at school, but it seemed he was avoiding me all day! I sat at my spot and waited. I was 'supposedly' going to Yugi's house. Who knew that he cared enough for Ryou to 'lie' to him. Oh well. As long as he believes it. Ryou took out the note and slipped it into his backpack. Then left his locker. I let him go about ten feet before following.
We walked about a block before he entered a hotel. He's been staying HERE? How can he afford it?!
Note To Self: Find where Ryou hides all money.
He walked in and went to the front desk. I grabbed a newspaper by the stand and followed him trying to not look suspicious. He walked over to the row of elevators and pressed the UP arrow. I stood slightly to the left, so he couldn't see my face. When the elevator came it made a DING sound and the gold doors opened, revealing a spacious place, enough to fit about seven people. We boarded the device and Ryou quickly pressed a number. The doors slammed shut and we moved upward. After a couple of floors the door opened and Ryou stepped off. I waited two seconds before leaving the elevator. He walked past some doors and stopped at one. He produced a card like key from his pocket and put it in the door handle. It made a small BEEP before allowing entrance. I didn't bother following him. I decided to make it a bit of a surprise. How? I threw the ring into the room before he closed it. He seemed to have forgotten it...
As soon as the door shut I waited for about 15 minutes before materlizing into my soul room and coming out through the ring. There was a small flash and I came out. I peeked around the corner to see if Ryou had notice, but all I saw was a book on his chest and him sleeping on the one person bed. I took a look around the room. His bag was near a small TV which was on an infomercial channel. Soft music was playing through the thing Ryou called a 'laptop'. I never understood the meaning of its name though. I sat on a little seat that was too hard for it's own good. Now what? I thought. I found Ryou, what was I supposed to do? I don't want to force him into coming home. But I don't wanna leave without him.
Just then another song started to play. It was a sweet melody and the words were cute. If I actually use the word. Ryou started to move and the book fell off his chest. He mumbled a few in choherent words before he went back to sleep. I payed more attention to the song however. The words seemed, true. It seems to explain how much I would like to tell Ryou what I feel for him. But being the weak bastard that I am, I have to tell him through notes. I have to wait to tell him. The song I think was called My Only Love.
Deep in my soul
Love so strong
It takes control
Now we both know
The secrets bared
The feelings show
Driven far apart
I'll make a wish
On a shooting star
There will come a day
Somewhere far away
In your arms I'll stay
My only love
Even though you're gone
Love will still live on
The feeling is so strong
My only love
There will come a day
Somewhere far away
In your arms I'll stay
My only love
You've reached the deepest part
Of the secret in my heart
I've know it from the start
My only love
There will come a day
Somewhere far away
In your arms I'll stay
My only love
My only love
As it faded out my eyes started to droop. Before I knew it I was falling into blissful sleep.
Ryou's POV
I woke up and was surprised that the music had already stopped playing. My laptop was on hibernate and my book on the floor. What surprised me even more was when I turned around and found a sleeping Bakura! On the couch no less. How did he get here? How did he find me? I was sure I left the ring at home. And that I put my mental blocks up....hey! Wait wasn't he supposed to be at Yugi's house? I'm so confused. I walked over to the closet to put an extra blanket over Bakura when I saw it. The ring. How did it get there?! Well. What do I do now? He knows I'm here. And I can't leave just like that. I need to think. I put the blanket over Bakura and put on my shoes. I'm going back to the ocean. That is probably the only place I can be alone.
I made sure that I had everything to take with me. My book, and my CD player that was hidden far in my backpack. Making sure I had my key I quietly opened the door of the room and left. While walking down the hall my mind started to drift onto the others. I haven't talked to anyone but Yugi. Even my small conversation with him wasn't enough to find out how everyone is doing. I stopped at the elevators and pressed the down button. I waited a minute or two before it go to my floor. I stepped inside and pressed the L button for lobby. There was only one other person inside the elevator. It looked like an early thirties women. As soon as I got to the lobby I quickly got off and headed outside.
Through the windows I could see that it was raining. Great. I didn't even bring an umbrella. What to do now? Might as well go. I like the rain anyway. As soon as I was out of the hotel my ears filled with honking horns, talking people and the pitter-pat of the rain on the sidewalk. I walking down the streets I shoved my belongings into my coat jacket. All around me couples were holding hands and sharing umbrellas. Through windows I saw people talking, laughing and having a great time with their loved one. Oh yeah, makes me feel a WHOLE lot better about being single. Makes me feel MUCH better that the one I love doesn't feel the same way towards me.
My head hanging low, I zig-zaged my way through the couples. A couple more blocks and I would reach the beach. It would be deserted except for the fact that I would be there. I past some nice looking shops. Or.... rather they would look nice to me if they didn't have to have so much holiday spirit. Everywhere there was Valentine Candies, cards, EVERYTHING. It all screamed out "BUY ME! I'M CHEAP AND YOU CAN SHOW YOUR LOVE YOU CARE!" Well, not to ruin the holiday spirit but I think that Valentine's Day is more of a thing where lovers just spend time together. How would I know? I mean every Valentine's Day during my elementary school years were filled with buying cards for all my classmates. In middle school it was full of buying candy for your friends. In high school, for the past two years, everyone started getting boy or girl friends.
This year, it will only be me. The first year, Yugi and Malik were both with me. That was when they didn't figure out their feelings for their Yami's. Last year it was me and Malik. Yugi had been with Yami. This year Malik had finally gotten with his Yami during New Year's. That leaves me. Yup. I sure feel special. Out of all my friends, I'm the only one who hasn't gotten someone to care for. Sad isn't it? By the time I finished that bitter thought I had reached the beach and was near my 'spot'. I went through the tunnel and appeared on the other side. I crawled through the little cove where there was some shelter. I took off both of my belongings and set them aside. From there and just sat and watched the rain fall and mix into the ocean. I watched the rain fall and turn the sand into a floor mix.
"Beautiful isn't it?" I was about to agree, when I remembered I was supposed to be alone. I turned around and there was Bakura crouching right behind me.
Bakura's POV
I woke up when I felt a blanket being draped over me. I squinted and saw Ryou moving around the room. I was about to go back to sleep when I saw him leave the room. DAMMIT! Why did he have to do this? Can't he see that I just want him here with me? I got up and followed him. He seemed to be deep in thought if he didn't hear me stumbling through the hall like an idiot. He pressed the down button on the elevator. I had a pretty good guess that he was returning to the main floor. So I decided to get there first. I took the stairs and ran down them skipping two every so often. Once I got to the last one I pushed open the door. I waited outside for him to get off the elevator. I glanced at the door and saw soaked people walking into the hotel. Must be raining. I hope it isn't too bad.
When Ryou finally got out of the elevator he headed out towards the revolving doors. A couple of blocks he turned and strted towards the direction of the beach. What did he want over there? In this weather! No time to lose him now. Once he got to the beach he crawled through this ingeniously made tunnel. I followed, it was narrow, but there was enough room for at least two people to get in at a time. When I got to the other end what I saw amazed me. The was a cove to the left of the tunnel. And to the right there was a walkway forming along the shoreling. Looking forward there was a perfect view of the ocean.
Ryou went to the little cove and sat down. From his pockets he took out a CD player and the same book I saw him reading on the bus, and when he was asleep. I walked around the cove a little so when I climb up I would be behind him. He stared out at the view. Before I broke the silence when I said
"Beautiful isn't it?" He turned around and looked at me with the brown eyes that I first fell in love with. Shock was apparent on his angelic features. The rain falling on his face made it look like he was crying. A crying angel sent from the gods to me.
"Ba-bakura?" He stuttered. I sat down beside him.
"Yes Ryou?" I asked him. Still looking out at the view.
"W-why are y-you are h-here?" He questioned.
"You didn't expect me to leave my...." I trailed off not knowing if I should tell him. " My hikari?" I finished off. I didn't think I could tell him right now.
"Oh..." He said. With a tint of... dissapointment? No. That couldn't have been it.
"Are you going to make me go back home?" He asked me after a few moments of silence.
"Not if you don't want to." I told him.
"Thank You." He's thanking me? For what?
"Would you like to stay with me and watch the view for awhile Bakura?"
"Sure. That would be.... nice." So together we watched the sunset. Then we watched the night sky. Each enjoying the other's presence.
