Wolf-Boy

Chapter 1: Warning

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yugi Motou winced as he trudged home toward the game shop. Today, of all days, the bullies decided to use him as a punching bag again. It was the one-day Jou and Honda were not there, because they had to go on a trip, and Anzu had already left to visit a dance academy. 'Oh well' thought Yugi, 'I can't depend entirely on them to protect me. Me of all people should know that.' He grimaced again as bumped a bruise on his leg.
Opening the door to the shop, Yugi sniffed the delicious aroma of stew. Walking into the kitchen, he saw Yami standing in front of the stove, stirring a pot.
Yugi gaped at him. "Yami!" said Yugi, still staring. The last time Yami had gotten so near to the stove, he almost burned the kitchen down. Grandpa was not happy.
Yami turned around. "Hello Yu-" he stopped when he saw Yugi, "What happened to you?"
"Hmmm? Oh…..well the bullies realized they missed me," the tri-colored teen said, "so they decided to 're-introduce' themselves to me."
Yami quickly rushed over to him, checking him for any major injuries. Yami started to pull off Yugi's shirt when he shouted and pulled back. Yami froze, unsure of why Yugi had done that. Yugi blushed as he backed toward the bathroom.
"Ummmm, I-I think I can do it myself," stammered Yugi, his face growing redder still. He whirled around and ran into the bathroom, shutting the door. Yami looked at the door sadly. How he wanted to be able to help him, for he had fallen in love with the little light the moment he laid eyes on him. Yami wondered why Yugi had run away so quickly.
//Yugi? Aibou? What's wrong?//
/Oh! Yami! Nothing's wrong! I…..just need to fix this myself!/
//But-// started Yami.
/I'm fine, Yami!/ shouted Yugi. With that, he blocked the link.
In the bathroom, Yugi could feel a bit of hurt on the other side of the link. The problem was that Yugi himself had a growing crush on his darker counterpart. But, he obviously couldn't tell Yami. 'What would he think? He'd probably be disgusted with me and never talk to me again.' No, he definitely could not tell Yami. It was bad enough he was gay. Yugi shook his head to get rid of those thoughts. He had to focus on the task on hand.
Yugi couldn't risk having Yami fix everything up for him, and seeing his chest. He had always been clothed in front of Yami. And it wasn't just shyness that kept him clothed in front of Yami, no, it was much, much deeper than that. Yugi closed his eyes as he recalled the life-changing event of his childhood.
~~~~~~end flashback~~~~~~~

Everything was in bits and pieces, but Yugi still knew what had happened. It was the night he had been changed. Carefully, Yugi pulled his shirt off, making sure not to brush the cuts on his arms. Looking in the mirror, he saw the mark on his chest. The mark of the Wolf. There was the dark imprint of a wolf's paw, surrounded by a raven. 'Hmmm' thought Yugi, 'Is it just me or does this mark seem to be darker?' He poked the mark tentatively.

~~~~~
'Now?'
'Yes.'
'Are you sure he is ready?'
'It's been eight years. He must be ready. The darkness is rising.'
~~~~~

As soon as he set his finger upon it, he felt a falling sensation. Everything whooshed by him, making him close his eyes in fright. When he opened them, he was in a forest, an oddly familiar forest. Above, in the sky, was a midnight colored raven. It gave two short caws, then a long one, an imitation of a wolf call. Yugi tensed. It was the call for danger. He looked around, hoping to find some wolves around. The leaves rustled once and several eyes appeared, glowing from the shadows. A large silver wolf stepped forward, out of the foliage. It was the Alpha Female, the one that had always contacted Yugi, the one that taught him the ways of the pack, even when Yugi was not there. They were able to speak mentally to each other.

'Wolf-mother?'

'Yes, little one?'

'Why have you brought me here?'

'……we need your help. The darkness is rising. We need you to help us, before it is too late.'

'Me? But how can I help? I'm the youngest of the pack.'

'All we need of you right now is for you to believe and to be ready.'

'But-'

'When the time comes, you shall know what to do. For now, be on your guard and be alert.'

'……yes.'

'Good. Now, you must go back to your body. Be wary and watch for Shadow. The raven will be there to watch over you and warn you of danger. He'll return with you and he'll contact you as much as possible. I know how close you two are.' The wolf smiled.

'Thanks. I missed Shadow.' Yugi looked up at Shadow who was perched upon the branches of the tree. 'Ya miss me, Shadow?' asked Yugi.

'Very much, Yugi. I can't wait to see your world.' answered Shadow.

'Come. You two can talk later. Now you must leave.'

'Alright. Come on, Shadow. Bye wolf-mother.'

'Good bye, young one. Be careful.'
