Chapter 1

Precursor to Doom

It's nightfall in Domino City, and the streets are full of life, as we zoom in on Yugi, and his friends, Tea, Joey, Tristan, Duke Devlin, Mokuba, Kaiba, Serenity, Mai, and Mako Tsunami.

Yugi: "Where are they?"

Kaiba: "I don't know, Yugi. But I'm sure your sister will show, she said she would."

Yugi: "I know she said that Kaiba. But she's never been this late before."

Just then a curly brown haired girl, with purple eyes, wearing a short red sleeveless kimono with gold accents and trim on it, and blue jeans comes walking up.

Katie: "Hey guys, sorry I'm late."

Yugi: "What took you so long, Katie?"

Katie: "Sorry, Yugi, I was helping Grandpa with the dishes, which was supposed to be your job tonight."

Mokuba: "Uh… Where's Neo?"

Neo: "Right here."

A young man with blue hair and blue eyes, wearing a suit made to look like a Red-Eyes Black Dragon, a dueling glove from Duelist Kingdom, black pants, and the Millennium Eye comes walking up.

Neo: "Hi sweetie."

Neo has now walked up to Katie.

Katie: "Hey babe."

Neo and Katie kiss briefly.

Neo: "Nice to you're wearing the shirt I bought you."

Katie: "Yeah, I really like it, even if it is red."

Neo: "Well the only other one they had in your size was pink with black accents and trim on it. And you hate pink."

Kaiba: "If you're finished we have a train to catch if we want to make it to the tournament tomorrow."

Neo: "Right Kaiba, you ready to go Katie?"

Katie: "Yes."

Yugi and the others walk down a set of stairs, through a turnstile and onto their train, where they all sit down, after about an hour Neo and Katie fall asleep leaning into each other, and smiling slightly.

Joey: "Hey, wake up guys."

Neo: "Huh…? Are we there already?"

Joey: "Oh, uh, hey Neo, you wanna wake Katie up for us so we can get goin''?"

Neo: "Sure I guess so."

Neo starts to gently shake Katie awake.

Neo: "Hey time to get up sweetie."

Katie: "Just a few more minutes…"

Neo picks Katie up and carries her off the train to where the others are waiting.

Kaiba: "Well, lets get going."

Yugi: "Right, Kaiba. C'mon guys let's go."

Yugi and the others follow Kaiba to the hotel where they'll be staying, the Hotel Shinato.

Neo: "Why does that name sound familiar to me?"

Kaiba: "Shinato, King of the Higher Plane is monster from Duel Monsters."

Neo: "Still doesn't ring any bells."

Yugi: "Noah used it as his deck master."

Neo: "Oh yeah… I remember that."

Kaiba: "Grrr…"

Neo: "What was that for Kaiba?"

Kaiba: "You forgot about Noah and how he almost killed all of us, didn't you?"

Neo: "Uh… Maybe."

Kaiba: "Does anybody else wonder how it is that he has control over his father's company when he can't remember the name a simple card?"

Joey: "Give the guy a break will ya Kaiba? I mean c'mon, only Pegasus himself could ever know how many cards are in existence."

Neo: "There are over two thousand individual cards in existence that the public knows about, and another one hundred fifty six that were never put into circulation."

Joey: "WHA?!"

Kaiba: "What did you just say?"

Yugi: "Two…"

Tea: "Thousand?"

Neo: "Yeah, that's right."

Kaiba: "There are one hundred fifty six cards that were never put into circulation!?"

Neo: "That's right, and all of them will be kept that way because they are too powerful to be put into circulation."

Kaiba: "Whatever, I really don't care."

Its now two hours later Neo is asleep and having a very peculiar dream. In this dream, Neo is facing down a horrifying creature that has killed all of his friends, even his beloved Katie.

Neo: <Who are you!? And what do you want with me!?>

<You mean you don't recognize me?>

Neo: <I have never seen you before in my life!>

<You should, because you are the one responsible for my being this way!>

Neo: <I still don't know who you are!>

<It is I, Marik! And what I want is my revenge on you for taking my Winged Dragon of Ra from me!>

A pulse of light is suddenly emitted from Neo's Millennium Eye, revealing Marik in his new form: the Winged Dragon of Ra.

Neo: <No! It can't be, it just can't be… You killed my friends just to get even with me, I could call you a monster, but not even the Blue Eyes Ultimate is as cruel as you are! You killed my friends. You killed Katie! And for that, I must take you down no matter the cost!>

<I'd like to see you try!>

Katie has just entered Neo's hotel room having heard him tossing in his sleep and yelling that someone had killed her.

Neo: <"I swear, I'll kill you for what you've done!">

Katie then starts to shake Neo awake.

Katie: "Its just a nightmare, I'm okay."

Neo: "KATIE!"

Neo, on the verge of crying now that he sees that it was just a dream, grabs Katie and holds her for several minutes.

Neo: "I'm so glad that was just a dream, I don't know what I'd have done if I'd really lost you."

Daybreak, and Neo is still awake, with very little sleep he must go into the tournament and do well enough to make it past the preliminaries.

Yugi: "Are you okay, Neo? You look tired."

Neo: "Yeah, I'm fine, I should be able to wake up in time for my first match."

Neo and the others enter the arcade where the Virtual Reality units are set up; each of them selects a card from their decks, and places it into a small slot in the VR unit, and once they are all inside the VR units, their minds are digitized, and put into the virtual world. Yugi and the others find themselves in a huge virtual field of flowers, with a circular cement arena in the middle of it, and each of them has been assigned a number.

Yugi: "Hey, Kaiba, I got number 12, what number did you get?"

Before Kaiba can answer, a voice comes in through the computer.

"Attention Tournament Participants, the following numbers must enter the arena at this time… 2 and 4… I repeat, 2 and 4."

Neo: "That's me."

Mokuba: "I'm up already Seto, later."

Neo and Mokuba, unaware that they are about to fight each other enter the arena.

Mokuba: "So my opponent chose to be a Red Eyes, huh?"

Neo: "Well, my opponent chose the Lord of Dragons, huh?"

Voice: "Begin!"

Neo runs head on towards Mokuba, slashing at him when he gets within range, Mokuba, is paralyzed with fear, and loses 1300 Life Points, leaving him with 1700 LP.

Neo: "I don't know why they bothered with this match, as I shall be the victor."

Mokuba: "This is totally unfair! Why was I set up against a Red-Eyes!?"

Neo then decides to finish the match up by using his deck.

Neo: "I play Mountain, and then I'll play Polymerization! And use two red-Eyes Black Dragons from my hand to fuse them with myself, to become the Red-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!"

REUD: ATK/4800 DEF/4000

Neo: "Now I'll attack with Dark Lightning Attack!"

Neo charges up a lightning attack that looks like that of the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, but it's different, it's black, and a powerful dark aura can be felt coming from the attack, as soon as Neo is finished charging up, he unleashes his attack on Mokuba.

Voice: "Cease! And Neo Pegasus goes onto the next stage of the preliminaries!"

Kaiba: "No wonder Mokuba lost, he was up against Neo."

Voice: "Will numbers 1 and 18 please enter the ring at this time?"

Joey: "Alright! I'm up!"

Joey enters the arena and when he gets there he sees the Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth.

Joey: "Hey, whada 'ya know, it's Weevil Underpants!"

Weevil: "You'll pay for that insult, Wheeler!"

Joey: "Oh yeah? Well check this out, I play Graceful Dice, Salamandra, and chain them together with Skull Dice!"

Joeys rolls the two dice, and the results are… 6 (Graceful Dice) and 6 (Skull Dice), giving Joey ATK/3100 and Weevil ATK/2400.

Joey: "Now I attack with Flaming Slash! Taking away 700 of your Life points!"

Weevil: "Why you!"

Weevil lunges at Joey who dodges causing Weevil to hit a card the Joey had hidden behind himself: Molten Destruction.

Joey: "I'm just too smart for ya, ain't I Weevil Underpants? Now, I'll play the card that Neo gave me for just such an occasion… Insect Barrier!"

Joey now has ATK/3000, which makes him as strong as Weevil.

Joey: `If I want to beat him, I need more spell cards!' ::looks through deck:: "Here we go! Burning Spear, Axe of Despair, and Lightning Blade!"

Joey now has an ATK/5000 to Weevil's ATK/3000.

Joey: "Now I'll attack with Flaming Slash! Which leaves you with 800 life points!"

Weevil: "This totally insane! I should be winning, I'm better than Wheeler!"

Joey: "No you aren't, you only win because you cheat. And I play Polymerization, and fuse myself with the Dark Magician, to become the might Dark Flare Knight!"

Weevil: "But… How did you get a Dark Magician!?"

Yugi: "How did he get a Dark Magician, Neo?"

Neo: "I may have given him one, but then again he might have just found it."

Joey: "I now play not one, but two Axes of Despair! Increase my attack power by 2000, and now I'll attack with Dark Pyro Slash!"

Joey attacks Weevil, defeating him.

Voice: "Cease! And Joey Wheeler goes onto the next stage of the preliminaries!"

Joey walks back over to the others and tries to hand a card back to Neo.

Joey: "Thanks man, this card really did come in handy, but you can have it back now."

Neo: "No, I gave that Dark Magician to you Joey, and I want you to keep it."

Joey: "Why?"

Neo: "I gave Katie a Dark Magician Girl, a Dark Magician Queen, a Dragon's Mistress, and a Blue-Eyes White Dragon."

Joey: "That still doesn't tell me why you don't want it back."

Neo: "I already have three Dark Magician Kings, so I don't need it."

Joey: "You have how many!?"

Neo: "Three."

The tournament continues until the only ones left are Kaiba versus Neo, Katie versus Yugi, and Mako versus Joey

Neo: "So, it looks like it's just you and me Kaiba, now we'll see who the better duelist really is."

Kaiba: "You may have beaten me when we tested out your new Deck Master system, but this time you don't have Katie to offer her support!"
