~~Beginning In The Middle~~
Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam" starts playing in an electronic tone to signal an incoming call.
Jiyami sighed, lifted her arms from their comfortable positions at her sides, and pushed the yellow button, at the same time starting the sure-to-be-short conversation with a weary "What's up, Kurama?"
"Sorry to wake you, but we've got Cultivated Humans everywhere and need help."
Jiyami sighed impatiently, "No amount of Cultivated Humans should ever be able to take you when you're on your own, and yet now, you have help and can't handle them, what're we dealing with?"
"Somehow they're being sent through portals to surround us and they've been upgraded to regenerate, so our attacks are not only no good, but their numbers are increasing by the second!"
Jiyami gave another impatient sigh and replied, "I'll be there soon, and don't worry, I wasn't asleep. The concept is now wishful thinking," before cutting the transmission.
She had been lying on her back on her bed, but now sat upright and stretched her arms with a loud, whiny groan, as she used to do in the morning when she woke up. She reluctantly rose from her comfortable seat and sought out her sword, over-sized, sawed-off, double-barrel shotgun and an extra case of titanium-tipped, hollow-point, exploding shells, and a half-dozen of her patented acid grenades.
She faced a nearby wall and pushed the green button, opening a portal, then stepped forward, tying back her hair, which currently she wore straight, black with a few bright red streaks, about medium length, and layered with upward-angled edges that gave an even more severe tone to the style. Jiyami smiled as she remembered her latest argument with her mother about the styles she had chosen to wear since getting this job.
~~Flashback~~
"I still don't see WHAT you were thinking when you did that to your hair, could you PLEASE clarify that point for me?"
She gave an impatient huff and replied, "I TOLD you, Mom, I need to seem a LITTLE more intimidating in my line of work, and even with weapons in plain sight and the creepy, gothic look, I'm still short and have, or at least used to have, curly, brown hair, and since I can't make myself grow more, my only other choice was a new haircut."
"Yes, a new haircut, AND a new straightening, AND some new, unnatural colors."
"Um, yeah, those too."
"But couldn't you just program it into your watch and use it when necessary instead of making it permanent?"
"Uh, no. The holo-cloaking device only works for an hour, and takes several more to reboot after it fizzles out. Now if you'll excuse me, I have French homework to get to." And with that, she left the kitchen and headed up the stairs to her room, leaving her mom in the doorway, yelling for her to get her stubborn ass back down there and wait for her to finish.
~~End Flashback~~
She closed the portal behind her and made her way down the tunnel (imagine the warp setting on Windows Media Player with metal archways on the right and left sides where the portals to the worlds can be accessed), getting herself organized on the way, placing her sword on her left side, her gun in its sling on the right side, and setting her bullets and grenades into her belt. She stepped in front of the fifth gate on the right and punched the auto-locate button on the keypad and was answered with an electronic female voice.
"Good day, Jiyami. Who needs your help today?"
"For now, Kurama, but I'm sure I'll need you to find a few more for me later, computer."
"I'm certain, scanning for Kurama"
Jiyami turned on her t-s radio to one of her favorite stations, The Buzz , while waiting for the computer to find her query.
~~~~~~~~
"Hey, Kurama! I thought you said your help would be here soon!" yelled an impatient Yusuke Urameshi through a throng of Cultivated Humans, which he was unsuccessfully trying to blast through with several blasts of his Rei Gun.
"Relax, Yusuke! It's only been five minutes since I called, she probably just started searching for my location and will be here in another minute or so!" Kurama yelled back, trying to not sound agitated that his plants weren't having an effect on the improved Cultivated Humans and his help wasn't here yet to figure out what to do about getting rid of them. He didn't notice that he hadn't mentioned one small fact until Kuwabara brought it up.
"` She '?! Your friend that's supposed to be this great fighter and is the only one you can think of to save our asses is a ` She '?!" He repeated, slashing through another Cultivated Human, and also targeting himself perfectly.
"Yes, Baka, Kurama's friend that's supposed to be this great fighter and is the only one he can think of to save our asses is a ` She ', he just said it, so why do you ask if you heard it directly from him?" Hiei answered for Kurama, taking out three more Cultivated Humans with one slash, and starting another petty argument with Kuwabara (as if it wasn't sssoooo predictable).
"The point is, she'll be here soon, so exercise a bit more patience," Kurama cut in, precluding any chance of an argument. "And concentrate on holding off the Cultivated Humans while you're waiting," he added, as he cut through several more of them with his Rose Whip.
~~~~~~~~
"Query found. Fifteen meters sound good to you?"
"Fifteen meters is perfect, and thank you," she replied.
"Opening portal, have a nice day, Jiyami."
"I doubt it, but thanks and same to you," she said as she stepped through the portal.
~~~~~~~~
Hiei was beginning to wonder if this friend of Kurama's would be much help, / She couldn't be so great if she's this late, probably can't run faster than the baka / he thought, smirking at the sight of Kuwabara clumsily hacking through the masses of Cultivated Humans. He was considering picking another fight, as uselessly cutting down these abominations had long since ceased to be entertaining, when-
BOOM!!
He and the others spun around to see a girl, about five feet tall, wearing boots that gave her an extra three inches, beat up flare jeans, a cut up Metallica shirt, and a sword and gun on her belt along with four explosive devices that matched the one in her hand, and she had tied back her medium length straight black hair that had red streaks in it and was cut in a jagged fashion, apparently all of which was a futile effort to make her more intimidating, step out of a portal about fifteen meters from Kurama.
~~~~~~~~
Kurama had heard the explosion and turned to see whom he could only assume was his friend, step out of a portal.
"Hey, Kurama! Y'know, you should warn someone when you decide to change your look. It can be quite startling to expect one thing and then get to a place and see something totally different," she commented, pulling the pin of the grenade in her hand and launching it into the mass of Cultivated Humans (away from any of the Tantei) and watching as it exploded and covered anything in a ten-meter radius with acid, obviously indicating that she knew he definitely thought the same about her new style.
"Yes, well, I've had some things happen since I last saw you, which I know I don't actually have to explain to you because you already know my circumstances, but I see you've found a way to destroy the Improved Cultivated Humans," he replied with a grin. "What are those, anyway?" he asked as he cut down a few more of the mindless onslaught, and caught the rest of the Tantei's curious looks out of the corner of his eye, or rather, Yusuke's and Kuwabara's. Hiei didn't make it obvious, but Kurama could tell that he wanted to know if this weird chick could really be the one he had given such high praise, and what he meant by she already knew his circumstances when he had obviously not seen her since when he was in his Yoko form.
"They're acid grenades, and I figure from the looks of it that they (pointing to the mass of burnt, twisted, not regenerating Cultivated Humans that she had just blown up) can't regenerate from any sort of burn, not just acid," she replied, also noting the way the other Tantei were looking to Kurama for some answers. "Let me guess," she said, "you told them I'm some great fighter and that I could easily wipe out these drones? Or at least, something along those lines, anyway, am I right?"
Kurama, seeming to merely concentrate on wiping out the nearest of the massive army, couldn't help but marvel at her perception of emotion, despite the fact that she was human, / Perhaps it's just because she's a girl / he thought, as he answered indirectly with a "Something along those lines, yes."
"Uh-huh. Guess I'm gonna have to prove you right, since you know everything, and if I wasn't as good as you say I am then you'd be wrong, and that would probably cause the universes to collapse or something like that, which I'm not allowed to let happen 'cuz it's my job to prevent the destruction of material time and space. Am I right?" she said, grinning from ear to ear, knowing that she'd put Kurama in a position where he had to admit something.
"I doubt the universes would collapse if I were wrong, but since it's your job to prevent `the destruction of material time and space,' as you say, you're supposed to investigate any reports of portals in any of the worlds. I merely called you to do your job, as it is your responsibility," he stated calmly, apparently oblivious to the fact that she had just called him a know-it-all and was proving her right with every word, cutting through some more Cultivated Humans as he said it. "Now would you mind getting down here and helping?", as she had just been standing in front of the still-open portal with her arms crossed in front of her the entire time they had been talking.
She flashed another grin and said, "Of course, I do like having a job, after all, and it wouldn't be a great idea to lose it as a result of being an argumentative ass," and closed the portal behind her as she pulled two more grenades from her belt, a confident smirk firmly set on her face. "I like getting paid too much to do that," and she pulled the pins and launched the grenades into the crowds of Cultivated Humans.

K, big fight next chapter, find out more about the time-space continuum, and what Jiyami's job really is. Also, names for this chapter:
1.) Kurama's Friend is a Girl ?!
2.) Arguments and Wishful Thinking
3.) Introductions with a BOOM!
Or you can suggest your own, and if stuff confuses you and you have questions, wait a few chapters, I'll probably answer them in the next few updates. If I don't, then ask in a review. I think that's everything, R&R please, and I'll see you soon, if I'm not rushing to finish my French homework before school starts again. Evil IBwhatever, ja ne!
