Lia: -giggle- I always wanted to throw a wall on someone! Walls are cool!

Ninoriel: Are you high?

Lia: No...

-Towlie appears-

Towlie: Wanna get high?

Lia: Yeah! -hugs- They got high in The Faculty.

Ninoriel: What the hell is The Faculty?

Lia: A movie, dumbass.

Ninoriel: Oh...

Towlie -highness wears off-: Who cares about some dumb movie? Let's kill Kenny cuz MY show's not on Fridays!

Lia: Dumb movie? -eye twitch-

Towlie: That's what I said. -gets high-

Lia: -silently hands Towlie grenade, grabs Ninoriel, then walks off to bomb shelter-

Towlie: I have no idea what's goin' on. - grenade explodes-

Ninoriel: What'd you do that for?! I wanted to get high!

Lia: He called The Faculty a dumb movie. -cries-

Ninoriel: So?

Lia: -eye twitch- Frodo was in it.

Ninoriel: Oh! -fears being handed explosive- Bad towel! BAD!

Disclaimer: The charred piece of rubble formerly known as Towlie belongs to Comedy Central. May he rest in highness. And like I said, this Frodo is mine. Muahahahaha!

-blah- telepathy

-blah- Larien & Ninoriel's telepathy

-blah- may also indicate time change or action(only in author notes)

P.S.-Hiei's powers might be out of character, so be warned.

P.P.S.- Normalcy not guaranteed. ;)

P.P.S.S.- Ixion can talk in a silent voice. Like telepathy, but not

A/N: Well, after I posted the first three chapters, I realized that the special characters I use to indicate thought speech and the different types, as well as the time changes, did not show up. So I've revised it a bit so it works.

A/N2: Hope I don't get in trouble for talking too much, but if you start to not like it, just tell me. It gets a LOT better, I promise, and it has some angst (my specialty), so just wait. Good things take a while. Thanks.

Dedication: This chapter is dedicated to my first reviewer here, and to my sissy, who was my first reviewer (only, actually) on Media Miner. So this is for both of you.

-meanwhile-

Larien heard the noise from all the way down the hall. Ninoriel jumped at the crash, gazing at her with wide eyes.

"I think Lia's back," she told him.

"She brought company."

Larien nodded, looking at the door as she began to change to her panther. Ninoriel started to get bigger, taking up half the bed.

-to Lia-

Stones bit into Lia's back as the vine wrapped around her leg released, throwing her into, and through, the wall behind her. She knew she should have chosen something smaller; a dragon was a bit large for the confines of the room. But Whiplash was back, and huge.

An obviously smaller brown wolf flew through the air, headed for the wall beside the crumbling remains of the hole she had made. She reached out and caught him, gently setting him down behind the unbroken wall. Not much help, but protection against the flying vines.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw another boy. Small, with black hair and...red eyes. Strange, but she had little time to think about that before razor-edged vines bit into her face.

They were going to lose this.

But just as she had caught the vines in her teeth and started to rip them apart, she saw two blurs; one black and one white.

-About time.-

-Well, if you weren't dragging in monsters at all hours of the day and night, - Ninoriel replied. -Then we wouldn't have to wake ourselves up when you start wrecking the place.-

All the same, he jumped over a few vines, trying to get close to Whiplash's face. Larien just grabbed a few and started tearing the leafy skin to shreds, ignoring the nasty taste that filled her mouth.

But it didn't last long, because half a minute later, the creature disappeared, but not before lashing across Larien's side.

"Coward," Ninoriel spat. "He can't even stay long enough to see if he would win."

"Which he wouldn't," Lia replied. "I wouldn't let him."

Then, shrinking back into her own body (which, if you took notice, was an elf, red hair, pointy ears...you get the drift), she turned her attention back to the wolf she had hidden behind what remained of the wall. He wasn't hurt too badly, except for a nasty looking cut in his side, but that wasn't very deep. Being hit in the face by a vine, even if it wasn't sharp, hadn't helped either.

She smiled a bit wryly as she healed him. "Well, he didn't get what he came for, at least."

"Him?" Ninoriel asked, seeming surprised. He glanced at Larien, but his sister just shook her head.

-We'll talk about it later.-

She surveyed the damage, wondering who had been the one to go through the wall. Some of the rubble had crashed a good way through into the next room, and the first one was in shambles.

"Who was the boy in here a minute ago?" Lia asked, looking around at the crumbled stone. "I thought it was your brother, but then you came in, so-"

"Speaking of which, why in hell did you kidnap him?"

"'Kidnap' who?" What are you talking about?"

"You told me you had a `present' for me, and then I find out you took another demon from his own world to keep him here, and I want to know why you did it!"

"What, do you mean Kurama' s here? Because I did not kidnap him, nor anyone else. If he is here, than it was of his own free will. He was asked to come and help us."

"Than why-"Larien stopped. "Kurama?"

"Of course Kurama. You told me how powerful he's supposed to be, and why not fight plants with plants?"

"You asked for Kurama?"

"Yes. I just told you that. Now who was that?"

But what Lia had said just now finally caught in Larien's ears, and she spun around, looking again at the rubble.

He was in there.

Ninoriel realized immediately what was wrong. He glanced at the fallen stone.

Before Larien could start worrying about searching for him, another crash rocked the room. Half of the rubble of the already shattered wall flew apart, leaving a gold wolf in it's wake. Blood streamed down his side.

"Ixion, what are you doing?" Lia yelled at him, making sure none of the re-broken rubble hit the wolf she held in her arms.

He didn't answer her. Flames began to dance around his face as fire built up in his throat. (Note: Ixion is a dragon who has a curse that enables him to change into any shape EXCEPT his dragon form. The conflict of this and the dragon is that my little friend Whiplash can change shapes too, and he was giving this boy a cowardly appearance. Tough luck, Whippy. More shall be explained in story.)

As he was about to let the flame loose, Larien caught sight of exactly who he was aiming at.

-Stop!- she yelled at him.

A moment later, and after a great deal of effort, he got the flames down to sparks. "Why?" he asked silently. "It's that little kid Whiplash had. Nalcife or whatever his name was.

Larien remembered that. Nalcife, or rather, Lynx. The little shape changer that had been Lia's friend at one point or another. Back when she had been posing as a human.

-No, it's not.-

Ixion looked at her out of the corner of his golden eye. "What makes you think it isn't?"

-Because Lynx is dead, and this is a demon.-

"Oh. That would be a good reason." The rest of the sparks vanished, and the gold fur started to follow it.

Lia glared at Hiei. "Who in Tarterus is that?" (Note: I mixed a whole bunch of stuff in. Bear with it.)

"Remember how you said you asked for Kurama?"

"That's not Kurama."

"Close enough. One of his friends. The Forbidden Child, if that rings a bell."

The redhead's eyes widened a bit at that. "Him?"

Larien nodded. "One and the same."

Ixion glared at Hiei, now in his `human' body. His side was still bleeding. "So why did he attack me then, if he's the one who's supposed to help us?"

Hiei stalked forward, his katana still in his hand. "The message I received said that I was to defend you from gold wolves, among other things."

"What?" Lia asked. She sounded as shocked as Ixion looked. "Wait a minute. I asked for help to keep my friends safe, nothing else. Do you have the letter still?"

"No. Why would I keep a stupid piece of paper? The demon who had it took it with her anyway."

"Demon?" Now she just looked confused. "What demon?"

"The demon who brought it. She said something about coming to a caste called Utulië, so here I am."

"Utulië? You're sure?"

(eye twitch on Hiei's part) "That's what I said."

"Then you came to the wrong place. If this means what I think it means, then we may have more trouble than we expected. Who would you say is more powerful, this boy or Kurama?" she asked Larien.

"Well..." she hesitated. "Kurama probably is stronger in the area of strategy-"This got a `hn' from Hiei. "-But I think they would be pretty well matched."

"Who would win?"

"I don't know."

"Kurama knows better than to fight me," Hiei said angrily. "And I won't attack him for no reason."

She stared directly into his blazing ruby eyes. "If Whiplash has his way, neither of you will have a choice. Kurama will attack you, and if you don't fight back, he will kill you as well."

"Why would Kurama go there if you sent for him to come here?" Ninoriel asked.

"Because, if I'm right, Whiplash can sense the breach in-between the worlds, and he already knows that we have the demon who was supposed to fight for him, so he will not allow us anymore of an advantage. If Kurama can fight the mind control hard enough to keep him totally out, then he'll die. Whiplash can't afford any more losses, and he knows it."

"So what are you saying? That Kurama will be killed anyway?" Larien asked, looking thoroughly displeased with where the conversation was going.

"If that thing was all Kurama had to worry about, then `Whiplash' is as good as dead," Hiei said.

"Yes, well, that's easier said than done, as you'll soon see."

"I'm not interested in your little games. I didn't come here to play guardian to a bunch of children. I'd like to leave now."

"What about Kurama?" Larien asked in shock. "You would just leave him here?"

Hiei shrugged. "He can take care of himself."

"What if he can't? What if he dies before we can get him?"

He shrugged. But Larien saw a tiny bit of worry in his eyes, along with the stubbornness.

"Well, then I'm afraid you'll have a problem. If you had gotten the letter intended for Kurama, it would have told you that there was a catch. Until one of us has enough power to tear the barrier between the worlds, you're stuck here."

"And how long would it take one of you to gather enough power?"

"At least a year. Maybe longer."

Hiei stared at her, looking for all the world like he was going to kill her. "Do you mean to tell me...that I am stuck here until one of you weaklings gets enough power?"

"Exactly," she said smugly. "So you can't abandon your friend, or us."

-ten minutes later-

Hiei sat on the windowsill, fuming. He was stuck here. Here.

Larien looked at Lia. "Did you really mean that? That he won't be able to leave until someone is strong enough to send him back?"

"Unless Kurama can open a portal, then yes. He's stuck."

"So what do we do? How do we go about getting Kurama here?"

"We wait. You'll see. One way or another, Kurama will be sent here. Whiplash will see to that. All we can do now is wait for him."
