Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction / Fan Fiction ❯ Spirit Detective ❯ Doctor, Doctor! ( Chapter 2 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
"Your condition is fabulous," said the young female doctor as she took a few more notes. "Remarkable for your age, ma'am. You're healthy as a horse."
"Mmhm... healthy as... horse," murmered Genkai as she reached around in her pocket. Her hand closed around a cigarette pack as the doctor turned her back to look over her notes. When she faced her again, Genkai was calmly smoking. The doctor plucked the cigarette from her mouth.
"I'm sorry, but you can't smoke here." Genkai rolled her eyes and looked away. Kurama, being the health nut, insisted that she go in for a checkup every once and a while, backed by Yusuke and Yukina. As she had commented before, she'd rather have been frisked in an airport.
"How'd it go?" asked Botan, who was waiting outside with Yusuke and Kurama. Everyone stood around waiting for an answer.
"How do you think it went? You're all standing around like you wanna find out when I'm due or something..." she mumbled, glad she was finally allowed to light up.
"Come on, old lady," Yusuke sighed. "Don't throw it all away." She looked at him curiously, then to Botan, who had a sorrowful look upon her face.
"Oh, whatever!" she exclaimed, tossing her cigarette into the nearby trash receptacle. "Damn health police. Buncha kids following me everywhere telling me how to stay alive." Botan and Yusuke cheered as they followed Genkai outside the building and down the sidewalk. Kurama followed them, looking as solemn as ever.
Back at Genkai's shrine, Yukina approached the group on the floor. Hiei sat quietly off to the side, while Botan, Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara exchanged jokes and laughed heartily. Genkai tried to look entertained, but felt more like working than sitting around.
"Would any of you like some tea?" asked Yukina, bowing formally.
"Yukina-san!" exclaimed Kuwabara, rushing up to her and grabbing her hands. Yukina looked startled. "You wanna ditch this old place and go to the movies with me? A nice romantic one?" He flexed his muscels and cocked one eyebrow.
"Um... Sure, Kazuma," she said with a chuckle. "Would you all like to see a movie?"
Botan and Yusuke agreed and put on their jackets. Yukina followed them outside. Kuwabara stared, dumbfounded. "But I was hoping... it would be just you and..." The door closed, "...me." Kuwabara sniffed and pouted, then faced Hiei. "Come on, Hiei! You can talk to her! She always listens to you! Get her to go out with me alone!"
Hiei glared at him. "And why would I do that?" he asked coolly.
"Because it would be a great thing to do for your old pal!" exclaimed Kuwabara. He looked to Kurama. "Could you talk to her?" Kuwabara laughed and shook his head. "How about you, Genkai? You should have some dating advice! You're old and wise!" She looked at him skeptically. "Come on! Someone help me out here!"
The door slid open and Yukina peeked inside. "Kazuma, are you ready?" she asked. Kuwabara sighed.
"I'm ready, Yukina," he replied, putting on his jacket and trudging to the door. It slid shut, and the moon light ceased to shine through. The temple was completely dark after a minute, except for a candle or two.
"We'll just be on our way," said Kurama, checking his watch and standing to leave. Genkai nodded. "See you in the morning. For your appointment with the dentist." Genkai stared after him disbelievingly.
