Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction / Fan Fiction ❯ Spirit Detective ❯ Clue ( Chapter 6 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Later that night, when Yusuke awoke from his little nap, Genkai and the girl were gone.

"There was a break-in, Yusuke," said Kurama. He gestured toward Kuwabara, lying on the floor. Yukina began to sob and tried to shake him awake. Yusuke gaped.

   ;       "W-wha-who?" he stammered.

"We don't know who did this. Kuwabara tried to fight them off, whoever they were. They must have been quite strong to put him out like this."

"Who would do this?" Botan nearly shrieked. "Who would break into someone's home and kidnap two defenseless people?"

"I'm not sure," Kurama stated. "They must have had a reason for kidnapping them. Why not finish off Yusuke in the mean time? I have a feeling our kidnapper isn't human, and Yusuke is well known in the Demon World." He paused for a moment too long.

"He would have gotten great bounty for his head." Botan tried to speak, but her face was beginning to match her hair. She was utterly enraged. She made a fist and closed her eyes, then let out a large groan and relaxed. Kurama continued to speak over the furious Botan.

"This kidnapper may want to lure you into some kind of trap, Yusuke." He lowered his head. "I don't know what we can do, now. We have no trace of evidence to where she might be, and there's practically nothing you can do that doesn't threaten your own life. We don't even know the identity of the girl you found. We'll just have to-"

"Yusuke, get back here right now!" exclaimed Botan. Too late. His jacket and shoes were on and he was out the door. If they weren't going to do anything about it, he was. A kidnapping had taken place, and he cared. He cared a lot.

He was up the river without a paddle, now. Kurama was right. There was no trace of evidence. He almost laughed thinking that the kidnapper was one of Genkai's old friends from some nursing home wanting a re-match at a game of checkers and a new grandaughter, but he stopped himself and tried to focus. This was no laughing matter.

He was walking. He was walking down a sidewalk and he didn't even know where he was. He was too lost in thought to realize where he was going. He stopped, took a look around, and continued walking again. He couldn't have gone too far.

His ears picked up every sound and he held his breath to listen, but he was making a fool of himself, freezing in his steps every few moments, listening. What was he listening for? What was he looking for? He was searching blind and he didn't even know where he was. Kuwabara was lying somewhere in Kurama's apartment unconcious and Yukina was probably taking care of him, then where were Botan and Kurama? Looking for him of course.

He thought of turning back. He thought of listening to their advice. He thought of taking his time and solving this whole mystery bit by bit. He didn't like any of these thoughts. He didn't want to go back.

Every second he wasted listening to what they had to say was probably inching him closer to his mentor's murder. That thought scared him the most. He hadn't thought about what was happening to her in the mean time.

He had to do something. Anything. He had to make things right. Somewhere Genkai was suffering something horrible, and he knew it. He had to rescue her, somehow. He had to find her and get her out of this, because he was the one who got her into it.

But again he found himself asking, why? Why Genkai? She must have put up a big fight. Who would go through the trouble of kidnapping her? That would be a lot of work.

That was something: He knew this guy was strong, really strong. Strong enough to subdue someone like Genkai. Who's that good at kidnapping? he thought. No, he didn't want his thoughts to wander. He wasn't doing this to find out how to restrain feisty old women.

That thought made him chuckle. Why was he laughing? This was no time to laugh. It was time to act, for the good of his mentor. She was in trouble; a lot of trouble, and he was going to get her out of trouble... But how?

He quickened his pace. He was wasting time, repeating himself. What was he doing? What was he going to do? He had to act, now. This guy wasn't going to wait for him to show up and save the day.

Wait. He stopped in his tracks. Maybe he was. Maybe he was waiting for Yusuke to show up. Of course!

Kurama had said he might be using Genkai and the girl to lure him into a trap. He was waiting for Yusuke to come and save her, limiting his options. If this guy was really as powerful as everyone thought he was, then Yusuke couldn't just barge in to wherever she was being held up. He had to plan, but how do you make a plan without information? You get help, that's what.

Time to round up the old gang. But first, it was time to run back to Kurama's to get two of the old members. He was a Spirit Detective. A real detective, not just some cop with an aura. It was time for some real detective work, and he needed brains for that kind of work.

He needed Kurama. As for planning, that was Hiei's specialty. Hiei had played the bad guy before. He would know what went on in a kidnapper's head. Finally, he needed a backup.

It was time for Kuwabara, the old sidekick. The problem was, Kuwabara's lights were out for the night. Of course! Genkai was the perfect replacement. Wait, duh. Genkai was the victim here.

Who did he know who could pack a punch? No one but Kuwabara. He was suddenly angry. He was really angry. Whoever this guy was, he would get him back later, for both Genkai and Kuwabara.

He would find out what happened when you messed with his friends the hard way.
