An Old Friend and New Obligations

Chapter 2

Kagome dodged through traffic on her motorcycle. Her black leather riding outfit fit perfectly in all the right places, earning her looks of admiration from every man she passed. As she zipped in between the many cars on the road she thought about the years gone by and how she had changed. She was definitely NOT the person Yusuke had known in 2nd grade. The main difference was her attitude.

`It's amazing what fighting demons on a daily basis will do for you.' Kagome thought.

She knew that she was a lot tougher than she used to be. She had been training with Inu Yasha regularly ever since she dropped out of school. Even her mom had agreed to it saying that she could continue her studies at home.

"It would be way too much a strain on you Kagome dear, trying to go to school and go to the warring states era too." she had said.

That was three years ago and she was now 18 and in college. She took weekend classes so that she had more time to spend at her job and shard hunting. She was going for a degree in herbal medicine. Might as well play to your strengths. She was getting on the job training too as the assistant to the herbal medicines expert at the local hospital. She was teaching him as much as he was teaching her. The jewel was almost complete now except for those one or two shards that eluded them. She passed a coffee shop and realized that she was thirsty so she stopped at the next one she saw. As she took off her helmet she heard some guy whistle at her.

"Check that out." the idiot said.

"Niiiiiiiice." his friend agreed.

Kagome walked over to the counter of the little café slowly and ordered herself a café latte. The man who had spoken first approached her.

"Hey hot stuff. Since when is an angel like you allowed out of heaven?" he asked.

Kagome paid for her latte and took a sip before responding.

"Since god decided that some one needed to keep tabs on idiots like you." She answered calmly.

"What the…. YOU FUCKING BITCH!" he yelled as he took a swing at her. Kagome dodged the punch easily and then swept his legs right out from under him. When he got up for more she back fisted him in the side of the head and pushed him into his friend who was running towards the pair of fighters.

"I suggest you not hit on women who are stronger than you any more." Kagome stated matter of factly.

She then finished her latte and got back on her bike. She put her long hair into a low ponytail before putting on her helmet and speeding off. In a few more minutes she was at Yusuke's apartment. It wasn't as nice as the one his mom had gotten after the fire in the old one, but considering his boss Koenma was paying for it she guessed he couldn't complain. She mounted the stairs and pressed the door bell. The door opened. As the door opened Kagome became speechless. Then she fainted from shock. Hiei caught her as she fell.

"I told you I'd see you again." he said as she fell into his arms.

He walked into the living room with Kagome in his arms. When Yusuke saw her he immediately asked what had happened.

"She passed out when she saw me, that's all." Hiei replied.
