Hey everyone, How are you? To answer the question that so many of you have asked, I have no idea yet who Kagome will be with. For some background, she and Inu have settled things and decided to be friends for the time being. Sorry to any Shippou fans for last chapter's treatment of him but I like to give histories together to characters from different animes when I do a crossover. Gomen ne. Thank you to rfpfirecat for the review and character suggestion. I may use Serena if I don't put Kagome with Kurama. I am definitely leaning towards making it a kag/hiei pairing. There are too many kag/Kurama pairings out there. Oh and I have a new story up called Sword of Paratyne. It's an original story of mine that I am very proud of so I hope go read it and enjoy it and review it. I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

An Old Friend and New Obligations

Chapter 5

Hiei had disappeared from the group ever since his last meeting with Kagome. It was obvious to everyone, even Kuwabaka (intended misspelling Gomen ne Kuwabara fans), that something was up between them. They were in the park having lunch when he showed up again for the first time in a week.

"I just talked to Botan, Koenma wants to see everyone, including Kagome." he said

"Who's Koenma?" Kagome asked

"My boss?! Honestly Kagome can't you remember anything?!" Yusuke asked exasperatedly

"Well maybe if you had said more than just `and I've got a toddler for a boss!' I'd remember it!" Kagome pointed out, just as perturbed.

They stood face to face looking like they were going to kill each other when Botan popped up on her oar.

"Hey! What are you guys doing!" she yelled," We've got an emergency and you're just…"

Botan trailed of when she saw who Yusuke was fighting with and zipped over.

"Excuse me miss, are you Kagome?" she asked brightly

"Uh…Yes I am. Who are you?"

"Oh I'm so honored to finally meet you! My name is Botan, guide of the river Styx and let me just say I'm so honored to meet in person you! You're a legend where I work!" Botan said quickly.

"Uh… sure…whatever you say." Kagome replied, more than somewhat bewildered by what had just happened. Luckily Yusuke was there to sum things up.

"What the fuck just happened here?!" he demanded.

"Watch your language Yusuke!" Botan yelled as she hit him with her ever handy oar," You will not use such language in front of Lady Kagome!"

"Lady Kagome?" Yusuke asked snidely," As if."

While Botan let Yusuke know just how pissed off she was the others left for the spirit world and their meeting with Koenma.

"It is an honor to meet you Lady Kagome." Koenma said, bowing to the eighteen year old in question.

"Okay now I'm freaked out! First some girl with blue hair claiming to be the grim reaper and now a toddler barely out of diapers? What the hell's going on here?" Kagome asked, annoyed.

"I think we would all like to know that." Kurama said.

"Well…It's like this." Koenma began," Legend tells of a powerful miko of the warring states era. It is said that she was killed trying to protect the Shikon…" Kagome interrupted him here

"no Tama, a powerful jewel with the ability to grant any wish, any wish at all. 50 years after her death a young maiden appeared in the forest near the tree where the half demon supposedly responsible for her death was pinned to a tree by the miko's scared arrow. She was revealed to be the reincarnation of the miko. An incident occurred that brought the Shikon no Tama back into the world after all had thought it gone when it was burned with the miko's body. Soon afterward the jewel was shattered and the pieces scattered to the winds. The girl embarked on a quest to retrieve the shards of the jewel with the half demon whom she freed from the arrow's spell in a moment of need. She was protected from him by a necklace that allowed her to slam him into the ground simply by uttering the word `sit'. Throughout their travels they picked many companions and enemies as well." Kagome stopped to take breathe while everyone marveled at the story she had just told," I know this story because it is my story. I travel to the warring states era on the days that I don't work. I've nearly completed locating and purifying the shards there are just two left that we don't have and those are held by Naraku."

"Who the heck is Naraku?" Yusuke asked

"Naraku," Koenma said," is a half demon of the warring states era who gained much power by absorbing fellow demons and using shards of the Shikon no Tama. He is here, in this time period. I believe that he is looking for Lady Kagome so he may kill her in this time so that he will not have to deal with her in the past and his path to power will be easier. Your new mission is to protect Lady Kagome and help her defeat Naraku. To aid you in this her allies of the past will be brought forward in time. Fighting Naraku in this time and place, one that he is not familiar with and where he has no allies or minions will make him easier to defeat. Lady Kagome is the key however, only she, with her great miko powers can destroy him outright." After this long speech Koenma retreated behind his desk to a cupboard behind it a few minutes of rummaging produced a large sword.

"This sword once belonged to Midoriko the miko from whom…"Koenma was again cut off by Kagome.

"the Shikon no Tama was created. It burst from her chest during her last battle. Her remains can still be seen, in perfect condition, in a limestone cave outside the village of my friend Sango. Wow…How did you get it?"

"She came to me in spirit and gave it to me saying that her newest incarnation would have need of it a few weeks ago."

"So both Kikyo and I are…"

"incarnations of the spirit of Midoriko? Yes. She wants you to have this sword. She said that it would be indispensable in the fight again Naraku."

That's it folks. Just to clarify, Kagome and Yusuke told each other about their secret lives but they were both very vague so even he would be shocked at everything she just said. I will be updating a whole lot more often after the 30th of this month when I graduate. Sorry these recent chappies took so long. Don't hate me! (Ithilelda cringes in fear of angry mob of readers closing in on her) Hey let me go!!! (Angry mob kidnaps Ithilelda to force her to write more often)
