KD: Wow, I can't believe so many people like my story! I'm so happy!

Sarah: Who cares? Get to writing!

Kurama: Sarah, be nice…

Sarah: Shut up, you stupid bishie!

Kurama: *Sweatdrop*

Hiei: Leave the author alone or you don't get to date me…*Turns to KD* Damn you onna for making me say that!

KD: Oh shut up, I'm starting the chapter now!

Chapter 8: Secrets Revealed

The sound of a smack and a girl's cry echoed through the house. Then a man yelled, "You bitch!"

The girl just lay in a heap on the floor. The man hit her again and again, adding an occasional kick to her ribs.

Finally, he had worked out his anger. "Go to your room. If you can walk on your own I'll be amazed."

Kenny stood and began to limp up the stairs, not leaning against the wall. Bill just shook his head and growled to himself. `What will it take to send this girl over the edge? Damn her!'

As Kenny stumbled onto her bed, her thoughts were much different. For the first time in her life, Kenny truly hated someone.

~Monday (The date was a Saturday)~

Kenny limped up to school. She smiled as her friends and the S.D.s turned worried eyes to her, but on the inside she was wincing in pain. Bill had beaten her nearly to unconsciousness, he'd never gone that far. It scared her. But she was with her friends now, and the date was worth being beaten.

Kurama watched as Kenny limped over to them. Koenma had said that her stepfather beat her, she must have been beaten on Saturday…And he could still smell the blood. He wondered just how many bruises were hidden under her makeup.

"What's the matter Kurama?" Kenny asked. He shook his head. So injured and still only thinking of others.

"Just thinking." She smiled at him, but it seemed painful to smile. Sarah noticed it.

"What's the matter, Kenny?" she asked.

"What makes you think something is the matter?" Kenny replied innocently.

"Don't even try to pull that. You've been limping to school more often than not lately, and even when you smile…it seems to hurt you," Amber beat Sarah to it.

Kenny sighed. "Look, I don't want to talk about it, ok?" She walked off to class.

~3rd hour~

Kenny sat away from the others. Sarah wrote a note and when Dee caught her doing it, she wrote a part, and it got passed around to the other girls. They had Kurama pass it to Kenny. She unfolded the paper and read.

"Kenny…

Tell us what's wrong. Sarah

What are you hiding from us? Dee

Why are you hiding it? Amber

Don't you trust us? Kassi"

She sighed, then got up and walked over to her friends and sat down. "I'll tell you, but not now…Lunch, ok? You might want to eat before I get there…"

They sounded confused, but nodded.

~Lunch~

They were all there, Kassi, Amanda, Dee, Sarah, Kurama, Hiei (unwillingly), Yusuke, and Kuwabara. Kenny waited until they were finished eating, then sighed.

"You guys know Bill," she started, looking at the girls. "My stepdad," she clarified for the boys, who already knew.

"Well, after he married Mom, he started getting mean. Really mean. He beats me, but only when Mom isn't around. I hide the bruises…" She took her napkin and dipped a corner into her water. She took the wet napkin to her face and scrubbed off her makeup. Everyone gasped.

Kenny's face had bruises on top of bruises. Deep bruises. Red, blue, black, and some older yellow and green ones.

She looked at them. "He's the reason I have to ask for lunch money so often…And the reason I come to school bandaged. The reason I never invite you over…" She nearly broke down crying but managed to get up and walk behind a tree. Kurama got up and comforted her.

"I…I hate him, Kurama," she whispered.

"What?" he asked, not sure he heard her correctly.

"I said I hate him. I really do. I hate him…" She hugged him and cried on his shoulder. "Kurama…Is it wrong?" she asked later.

They had skipped the rest of school and walked to a local park. It was small and secluded.

"Is what wrong, Kenny?"

"That I hate him…I have never hated anyone before…It's like it'll burn me alive unless I do something…"

"I don't think it's wrong…He put you through a lot. Why don't you call the police on him?"

"I…I can't. Mom loves Bill…"

Kurama smiled at her. "What?"

"You're so kind. You only think of other people, even above yourself. So warm, ready to help in any way possible…It's hard to find people like you…"

She smiled. "Arigatou Kurama-kun."

"Douitashimashite," he replied.

KD: Just because you two are emotionless, doesn't mean we have to be.

Kurama: That's right.

Hiei: Hn.
