Kurama sobbed, and the doctors tried to revive her, but they couldn't bring her back. He felt something brush his cheek, a ghostly hand, and his tears stopped.
He gave her name and address to the doctors, and got up. He walked slowly to the apartment where he, Hiei, Yusuke and Kuwabara were staying.
“Kurama? Hey Kurama, what's up? Where's Kenny?” Kurama looked at Yusuke, and smiled slightly.
“She's happy,” was all he answered, and went to the kitchen to make tea.
~~~
There was a lot of family at the funeral, and Kenny's mother was sobbing. Kurama went to comfort her.
“My daughter… my daughter is dead… and my husband is in jail, being questioned for child abuse…” Kurama put a gentle arm around her.
“She didn't want to tell you. All she wanted was for you to be happy. I think letting herself die is the only selfish thing I've even seen her do…”
Mrs. Rosuto hugged Kurama, the only comfort she had. “I… I never suspected. Bill really did…?”
Kurama nodded. “But don't cry. I know… Somehow, I know that she's happy now.”
~~~
Hiei and Sarah stood over in a corner, watching Kurama comfort Kenny's mother. Amber joined them. “I think Kurama's right. She's safe now.”
Sarah nodded. Hiei, surprisingly, smiled. “That was just a human body. She'll come back, but this time as she's meant to be.”
The girls stared at him questioningly, but Hiei just shook his head.
~~~
Kurama knew he was dreaming. He was asleep, and he knew that this was a dream. But that didn't stop him from smiling as Kenny came near, smiling. “This is a dream, Kurama, but it's also true. I'll come back. I remember how now. I'll come back, I promise.” And she kissed him lightly on the cheek before he woke up.
~~~ (6 Months Later)
The Tensaiga, or Kenny, as she liked to be known, smiled at the King of Makai. “Thank you, Lord Sesshoumaru.”
“I still do not see why you wish to go alone.”
“Call it sentiment, if you will. But I have to do this, by myself.”
“Take care of yourself,” Sesshoumaru spoke in a voice that few ever heard; compassion.
“I will.” Stepping through the portal to the human world, Kenny smiled at the familiar surroundings of Sarah's huge backyard.
“Sarah?” she called, hearing voices nearby.
A familiar face appeared in the bushes. “Hiei!” Sarah followed, gaping at her friend.
“Kenny?”
“Hey Sarah.” Kenny smiled. “I must look really different, I know. But I'm real, I promise.”
“You're… alive?”
“Mm-hmm. Lord Sesshoumaru was not pleased with how I showed up. But I'm better now.”
“Lord Sesshoumaru himself?” Hiei asked.
Kenny nodded. “But enough about me. How have you guys been? What about my mom? Kurama?”
“Well, they questioned Bill. He's on Death Row for first-degree murder. Your mom was absolutely furious with him for beating you when she found out. She was pretty upset with you for a while too, but she understands why. Kurama helped her.”
Hiei nodded. “Koenma let us off the Reikai Tantei. Kurama has been living in your old house, helping your mother. Yusuke and Kuwabara went back to Japan.”
“I wanted to thank them… Oh well, I'll just visit them or tell Koenma to tell them. I'm going to go say hi to Kurama now…” Kenny smiled at them again before fading out of sight.
~~~
“Kurama - “ Mrs. Rosuto dropped the plates she was holding. Kurama rushed in to see what was wrong. “Kurama… Is that…”
Kurama stared as well.
“Hi Mom… Hi Kurama… I didn't mean to scare you…”
Mrs. Rosuto approached her daughter slowly, before running and hugging her tightly. Kenny hugged back. “I love you, mom… I can't stay long, though. Lord Sesshoumaru wants me back by morning. There's a huge meeting with the North, East, and West Demon Lords. A land dispute of some kind…”
“Kurama explained to me about the demons and how they work, but are you…?”
“No! Mama, did Kurama not explain that I'm a sword? I was granted a human form when I killed the biggest threat that the worlds have ever faced. The reason they split in the first place.”
Kurama blushed. “No… I forgot.” Kenny smiled and shook her head, chuckling slightly.
“Is dinner still warm?” Mrs. Rosuto smiled widely.
“Of course, and there's plenty.” Kenny smiled and took a plate. The three of them had a nice dinner.
~~~
“I'll be back in a few days, at the most. I'll probably have to bring Jaken along. I had to fight tooth and nail for him to let me come alone this time. I love you both.” Kenny kissed her mother on the cheek and Kurama on the lips softly before stepping through a portal to Makai.
~~~
Koenma, looking over the case file for one Kara Rosuto. A beaten, abused girl returned to her natural form as the Tensaiga, though she retained her personality and memories of her time as a human. “It turned out well, sir,” Botan commented.
“Yes it did. I believe she plans to live in the human world, with her mother and friends, and also Kurama and Hiei, but return to Makai and Reikai for her duties. I think she can make it work.”
~~~
Kenny rushed to the meeting room. She skidded to a stop outside the door, straightened her dress and her hair, and walked into the room as though she hadn't sprinted the entire length of the palace. “So, Lord Koga, Lord Shippo, Lord InuYasha, there's some argument over land?”
~~~
KD: Well, there ya go. It's all over now.
Kurama: Wow. I didn't expect it to end like that.
KD: That's the end of this fic! Sarah, don't kill me! See, Kenny didn't really die! And I sent you an e-mail saying I'm sorry too! DON'T KILL ME!!!
