Chapter 10: The End?
Kenny took her beating nearly silently. There was an occasional whimper as Bill hit a fresh bruise, but Kenny didn't cry out, didn't beg him to stop. Her eyes were distant as she remembered better things.
Bill, on the other hand, was furious. He would break her. She could not last forever. And every cry that didn't ring out made him more and more furious, the hits coming that much harder and faster.
Kenny was bleeding now, she was sure, but she couldn't bring herself to care. Until thoughts of a certain redhead and her mother broke in. Kenny sat up, ignoring her stepfather's wide-eyed look, and walked out the door.
She walked to where she knew Kurama and the boys were staying. She knocked on the door and suddenly became aware of just how long and hard she had been beaten. She slumped against the door, just barely caught by Kurama when he opened the door. “Kenny!”
“Hi, Kurama,” Kenny smiled up at him. “I finally had the nerve to leave.” And then she fainted.
Kurama brought her in and laid her on the couch, telling Kuwabara and Yusuke to get wet rags.
~3 hours later~
Kenny blinked up at the bright lighting, trying to hide her eyes. “Ow,” she mumbled when she realized just how much it hurt to move her arms.
“Kurama! Kurama, she's awake!” She knew that voice, but she couldn't place it…
“'S too loud,” Kenny mumbled and turned over.
A gentle hand turned her back over, and Kenny blinked up into emerald eyes. “Kurama?”
“Kenny. You scared us, you know.” Kurama smiled and helped her sit up.
“Sorry.” Kenny was feeling better now. “Wait, I managed to walk here?”
“Yeah. You scared Kurama nearly to tears,” Yusuke said.
“Sorry Kurama,” Kenny kissed him on the cheek.
“Aw, you two need to be alone?” Yusuke teased.
Kenny gave him a good-natured glare. “Hey, Kurama, where is Hiei?”
“I don't know. Yusuke and Kuwabara said he left right after I did.” He looked confused when Kenny covered her mouth and started giggling.
“I know where he is…” she said, still giggling.
Kurama's eyes widened, and he looked as though he was holding back laughter as well. “Yes, we'd best leave them alone, hadn't we?”
“'Them'? What do you guys know that I don't?” Yusuke looked at them.
“Do you want it alphabetically, chronologically…” Kenny teased.
“Ha-ha. But really, where is he?”
Kenny and Kurama looked at each other and burst out laughing, but Kenny quickly stopped, holding her ribs. “Ouch…”
Kurama sobered immediately. “You need to go to the hospital.”
“But -“ Kenny started to protest.
“No buts. We just won't tell them how you got hurt.” Yusuke agreed with Kurama.
Kenny shook her head, and for some reason, a tear leaked from her eye. It hit one of the cuts on her arm, and the cut glowed for a second before disappearing. Kenny stared at the spot where the cut had been as though she'd never seen it before.
“W-what?” she asked, looking to Kurama.
“It looks like Bill finally started the process. Your body is starting to remember how to heal. Soon, your mind will remember as well. And then how to kill.” Kurama looked away. When she remembered, she would regain sword form. She probably wouldn't ever come out of it, not that he blamed her, after everything that had been done to her. He would miss her.
She tilted his head up to look at her. Yusuke was out of the room, getting soda. Kenny gently put a kiss on his lips. “I love you, Kurama.”
She leaned back against the couch, and smiled before passing out again. Kurama picked up the phone. “I'm calling an ambulance,” he told Yusuke. He told them his address, that he had a friend with multiple cuts, bruises, etc., and bit his lip as he lied and told them no, he didn't know what had happened to her.

Kenny blinked awake. Again, the light was much too bright. “Where `m I?” she managed.
“Hospital,” answered a soft voice. Kenny panicked, trying to sit up. Two hands were on her shoulders, laying her back on the bed. “It's ok, Kenny, I didn't tell them what happened.”
Kenny, now able to open her eyes, looked up at Kurama. “Oh,” she said. Being more careful this time, she sat up. “That's why I don't feel like I got hit by a truck.”
“When they brought you in, that's actually what they thought happened. Said they'd never seen someone live through this amount of damage.” Kurama looked at her. “You have to tell, Kenny, please. Look at yourself. Don't you think your mother would grieve if you died, especially knowing you could have stopped it?”
Kenny's eyes flooded, and she looked away. “I can't do it anymore, Kurama. If I'd have died, I think I would have died peacefully. I think I did die, for a minute… There was a girl with cotton candy blue hair…” She smiled.
“That would be Botan. She's a ferry girl for the River Styx.”
“Ah. Hey, Kurama? I think I'm going now… Tell my mom I love her. And tell her… what a bastard Bill is…” Kenny smiled and closed her eyes. The heart monitor that had been beeping steadily suddenly let out an alarm as she flatlined.
