The whole gang was on their way back to Kaede's village when Kagome shouted out that Kouga was on his way towards them. Miroku grabbed his staff with his right hand and put an arm around Kagome's waist with his other. Inuyasha saw this and hid a smile. He was not the only one to protect their friend from the future, of course Miroku had been protective earlier, but not like this. The wolf was going to be in some serious trouble if he tried anything with Kagome today.

Two seconds later a whirlwind stopped in the middle of the group. From the dust came Kouga, the wolf demon. He smiled brightly towards Kagome and closed the few steps between them, but the only person he got close to was Miroku. The monk's dark blue eyes glimmered dangerously.

- Houshi-sama, what's up? asked Kouga a bit confused.

- What do you want Kouga? asked Miroku firmly.

- I caught a wonderful smell and I thought I would pay my wommmmmnnn….

Miroku plastered ward right over Kouga's mouth, effectively silencing the wolf.

- Kagome is my wife, you will not call her your woman ever again, if I hear you call her your woman again I will suck you into my Kazaana, do you understand?!!

- Mmmppf, nodded Kouga.

- Good, said Miroku and removed the ward from his mouth.

Kouga spat a bit, looking both angry and hurt. He looked at Kagome who peeked over Miroku's shoulder.

- Is it true Kagome? Are you his wife? he asked.

- Yes Kouga, it is true. I am his wife.

- Hmpf, I had been sure that I would fight over you with that stupid mutt face.

WHACK!!

- Ouch, what the hell was that for dog turd..? he yelled and turned around only to be whacked over his face.

- Don't you dare call him names… you.. you… snake!!

Kouga's eyes got their focus back and saw a blue haired girl holding an… "Is that an oar?" She held it tightly, ready to strike again.

- I am no snake, I am a wolf, snorted Kouga.

- I don't care what you are, you don't talk about my mate that way, said Botan with force and raised her oar to show that she was serious.

- Shit, has everyone mated in this group? Who the hell are you anyway girl? asked Kouga and massaged his sore head.

- Her name is Botan, and she is my mate, said Inuyasha and encircled her waist from behind. Putting his arms protectively over her belly.

- And who is he? asked Kouga and pointed towards Kurama. - A relative to you dogs?

- My name is Kurama and I am a fox demon, said Kurama and made a nod in greeting.

Kouga sniffed the air and made a snort.

- Ha, would you look at that, the demon slayer is mated to a demon. Never thought I would see something like that in my life, he laughed dryly.

Sango wanted to use her boomerang to bonk him on the head but Kurama held her back.

- What about you Sesshoumaru-sama, where are your mate? asked Kouga and turned his ice blue gaze towards the stoic youkai lord.

- I have no mate, said Sesshoumaru with his emotionless voice.

- No? Man, after all what I have learned this few minutes I had been sure that you too had found one, since everybody else in this pack has.

Little Rin frowned; she did not like the tone of the wolf. Plus she hated wolfs, they had killed her once, but her angel, her daddy had revived her.

- Daddy will find a mate when he is ready for it, a good mate for him and a good mother for me, she piped out and put her nose into the air.

- Daddy?? Oh shit man, this is just too much, groaned the wolf and was once again whacked in the back of his head. But this time it was Sesshoumaru and not the blue haired girl.

- Watch your language young wolf, snarled the youkai lord.

- What is it with everyone? Why are you hitting meeee? whined Kouga.

- Because you deserve it, smiled Inuyasha tauntingly.

Kouga scratched his head before shaking it in a confusing gesture.

- You are all crazy, I am out of here… Bye!!

And with that he was gone, leaving nothing but dust behind.

Everyone took a deep breath of relief. Especially Miroku and Kagome. The monk pulled his wife close and kissed her deeply, not caring that everyone saw them.

- Are you ok Kagome-chan? he asked silently.

- Yes I am love. I am glad that he gave up, finally, smiled Kagome and took the initiative to another kiss.

- He won't dare to try anything again, because I will do him some serious bodily harm, growled Miroku.

Kagome smiled and melted into his strong arms.

Inuyasha moved to sit down with Botan and Shippou in his lap. He nuzzled his mate's neck, taking in her wonderful scent. He could smell the faint trace of her pregnancy and that made him all warm inside.

- So will we camp here for the night? asked Sesshoumaru and the whole group nodded. - Come Rin, Shippou, let's take a walk and find some berries.

- Berries? asked Rin and looked up onto her daddy.

- I smell strawberries nearby.

- Are you coming Shippou-chan? asked Rin.

- Yeah!! I love strawberries, said Shippou and hugged Botan and Inuyasha before he ran off with Rin with Sesshoumaru on their tail.

Botan smiled and wiggled to get a more comfortable position in Inuyasha's lap. She heard him growl and she could feel something hard against her behind.

- Oops, sorry mate, she whispered.

- Mmm, he grunted and pushed his nose into her hair.

Botan giggled and leaned into his chest.

Kagome and Miroku sat in much the same position. But Sango had found a small brush and was engulfed with grooming Kurama's long silvery tresses, making small braids every now and then. Who could ever guess that this was the famous shard hunting team of the Senko Jidai?
