Summary: The day the world was broken.
----
A smile touched her lips as she looked upon her newly finished home. It was a nice three story building that had a large basement that would be used as a dojo. “It’s wonderful.”“We’re glad you like it, Kagome-sama.” Kouta said in his deep voice as he walked up behind her.
“Now here’s the question.” Yoshiro said with a smile. “Who’s living with momma?”
“I am!” Souten exclaimed happily.
“So am I!” Shiori insisted.
“I’ll be staying with papa.” Rin said with a smile of her own. “Though I wouldn’t mind staying here for a week or so.”
“And I’ll be staying with Rin.” Kohaku declared with a slight blush.
“I would like to stay.” Kouta said with a small smile.
“Seems that my house is popular.” Kagome said with a giggle.
“We need to return home in the morning.” Ayame said a little sadly.
“Inuyasha and I can stay a few days more if you like.” Kikyo said with a smile.
“Then we need to do something tonight.” Inuyasha said with a grin. “It’ll be our own little celebration for your return.”
“How about a movie?” Kohaku suggested.
“Which one?” Souten questioned.
And so they all began debating on what to watch while Kagome simply shook her head. With her smile still in place, she suggested that they choose by vote. Eventually the guys conceded to a romance since the girls (except Kagome) chose that category. Somehow they all got roped into watching Titanic. The funny part was that most of them fell asleep about halfway through it. Towards the end is when Kagome disappeared from the room.
Stealthily she crept to her room and quickly closed the door as well as her eyes. Now that she was finally alone, she could think on what had happened a few weeks ago. That kiss had felt so wonderful and so right, yet for some reason Hiei had left after she had fallen asleep. What was upsetting to her though was the fact that he’d yet to return. Then again, perhaps he was not sure on his own feelings for her. Giving off a slight sigh, she moved to her bed and collapsed onto the sheets.
Hmm… they’re silk. Looking around, she finally noticed exactly how her room was. Purples, reds, and blacks made up her room. It was really quite beautiful. With a sigh, she stood up and entered her bathroom. I’ll just take a nice relaxing bath. With the turn of a knob hot water quickly began filling the tub. She lowered herself inside and sank into the lovely heat. Why? Why am I always so cold?

“And just why are we here?” said one voice.//\\

“So that we can revive our master,” answered another voice.
“But I thought they sealed our master?” questioned a third voice.
“They did,” said the second voice. “But they sealed the priestess who sealed him. The seal is weak and they are defenseless, so it is simple to break the seal now.”
“But shouldn’t the miko’s power have remained intact?”
“It should, but they dispersed her soul throughout the three realms. In doing so, they weakened the seal upon our master’s soul.”
“I get it.” The first voice said quietly. “We’ll unleash his soul and allow him to overtake the new body we’ve acquired for him.”
“Exactly.”

Everything seemed to be going smoothly until an alarm within Reikai was set off. This specific alarm had King Enma’s eyes enlarging to great sizes as he rushed to his son’s office, “Koenma!”//\\

“Yes father?” The boy squeaked as his door was slammed open.
“Gather your team! And quick!”
“Of course,” the boy said as he quickly contacted Botan and told her to retrieve the boys.

It was midday and she had just felt a familiar energy land in the tree when it happened. “No.” The whisper escaped her lips before she screamed in absolute agony. Everyone within the house was immediately at her side and Hiei had caught her before she hit the ground.//\\

“Get your hands off my mother.” Came a growl from Yoshiro as he glared at the hi-youkai.
“Y-Yoshi,” the girl managed to get out. “B-be nice.” Her breath was coming in pants as she kept her eyes closed tight. “S-Ship-po… Warn Inu-Inuyasha. Na-Naraku’s b-back.”
“It can’t be.” Kohaku whispered as he fell to his knees.
Hiei ignored them all and picked her up before leaping in through her window. The action snapped Souten out of her stupor and she turned to the others. “Shiori, Rin, Kohaku. You three need to warn Sesshoumaru-sama, Kagura-sama, Kikyo-sama, Inuyasha-sama, Kouga-sama, and Ayame-sama.”
“What about you?” Yoshiro asked as he turned to her.
“I will warn our surrounding allies. Kouta, you will help me.”
“I will accompany Shiori to the Northern Lands.” Kouta said quietly. “We must be well prepared, and we know that Naraku will come for Kagome-sama as soon as he knows.”
“Yoshiro and I shall remain with momma and find out who the little hi-youkai is.” Shippo said strictly. “We’ll also build stronger barriers around the shrine grounds.”
“I need to go to Reikai.” Yoshiro argued. “There’s something there that I need to retrieve from the King’s Vault. It’ll be simple to get since he’ll be too occupied with this new development.”
“Understood,” Shippo said easily. “By the way things look, this new little demon and momma know each other. So he’ll probably help protect her.”
“Alright, let’s move out.” Souten ordered calmly.
Upstairs in the house, Hiei had laid Kagome down on the bed and was stroking her hair to help sooth her. “What is going on?”
“Th-the battle I told you about,” the girl started. “The one with the group who was betrayed by Enma, I didn’t tell you about the seal that was placed upon Naraku’s soul. I can feel it, the energy in the air is unbalanced and his soul has been freed.”

“That doesn’t matter right now.” Enma said as he looked at the group. “A demon whom was sealed has been released within the Makai, and you need to go after him and kill him.”
“You summoned all of us here over a single demon?” Yusuke questioned as he looked at the king.
“Seven hundred years ago this demon had the power to destroy the world, and now his power has grown. It took many people to do this demon in, most of them were B-class and up. It also required priestesses, priests, monks, and demon slayers. In the end he was destroyed, but only those present know how. His seal should’ve held forever from what I know of it. Now that he’s free, he will once again go after power and world domination.” Enma stated as he looked at them.

“That is not of any importance.”
“She’s my mother, so it’s important to me.”
“Shippo?” the girl on the bed questioned as she opened her eyes.
“Hai momma?” he questioned as he raced to her side.
“Quit pestering him.”
The boy’s eyes widened at that. “But momma…” He started whining.
“I want to talk to him alone Shippo, so could you please go make me some tea?”
A sigh, “alright momma, but call me if you need me… or if he tries anything.”
That elicited a giggle from her. “I’ve been seeing him for a little over three months now, I’m positive that I can trust him.”
“You’ve been seeing him behind our back?” The boy questioned, surprised.
“He’s not a people person.” Was her simple reply, “now go on.”
“Yes momma.” He said as he left the room and closed the door behind him.
“Hiei, where have you been?” The girl questioned as she turned to look at him.
“Training.”
“For the tournament?” she questioned, and received a nod. “Why didn’t you tell me then? I was worried that you wouldn’t return.”
The demon sighed at this. Once again he turned to look outside the window and it was a few moments before he spoke. “After that kiss, I was confused and I needed to leave so I could think things over.”
“So you were unsure of your desires towards me.” She stated out loud. “Does that mean you now know?”
“Hai.”
“May I ask what your desires towards me are?”
He remained quiet for a time before he finally turned toward her with a soft look in his normally cold red eyes. “I desire to have you as my own.”
Her eyes widened at the soft emotion in his eyes and the truth she could hear in his voice. “D-do you mean that?”
“Hai,” slipping down from the sill, he easily made his way to her bed.
But before he could reach it, she flung herself at him and he caught her within his strong arms. Sealing her lips to his, she allowed herself to melt into his embrace. The kiss was only broken by the clearing of a throat which had her looking to the doorway before she buried her head into Hiei’s chest with a blush. “And here they call us kitsune seductive. I’m gone five minutes and you’re already about to rip each other’s clothes off.”
“Shippo,” the girl mumbled out as Hiei smirked at the kitsune.
“So is he going to be my new father?” The kitsune questioned with a smirk.
“Hai,” Hiei said before Kagome could answer, “if Kagome will have me as her mate.”
“Well fuck, I was just joking.” Shippo said with a laugh.
Instantly Kagome turned to him with a glare. “Shippo Akira Satoshi, what did I say about cussing in front of me?”
Gulp. “Sorry momma, I think I was with Inuyasha too long.” The kit said quickly, trying to apologize.
Sigh. “Apology accepted, but no more cussing, ok?”
“Right,” he said as he straightened, before smirking at her. “So when can I have those little brothers and sisters you promised me?”
“Shippo!” the woman exclaimed as she jumped at him. He laughed as he moved out of the way. “Get back here you evil little kit.”
“No, you’ll hurt me.” He complained as he evaded another attack.
“Only a lot,” she mumbled as she smiled playfully.
“Did I miss something?” asked a voice from the doorway.
Kagome looked up and smiled at seeing Yoshiro there. “I have some news for you.”
“And what’s that?”
“Well, if it’s ok with you I want to take a mate.” She said as she looked at him with what she hoped to be a calm and not pleading look.
The boy froze at that before his eyes moved to the hi-youkai, then back to her. A sigh escaped his lips before he gave a feint smile. “I understand momma, and I only want your happiness.”
“Thank-you, Yoshiro.” She said as she rose to her feet and hugged him.
“I am getting younger siblings from this, right?”
Smack. “Is that all either of you two care about anymore? Getting siblings?”
“You did promise momma.” Shippo said with a pout.
Hiei actually chuckled at this. He wasn’t sure why, but he felt so different here. “Perhaps if you’re good boys you’ll get siblings a.s.a.p.”
Kagome turned to him with an excited face at his words. “Not even mated and you already want children?”
“Only if they’re from you.”

It was late as she looked out her window with a sigh. The sun was now setting and it made the sky look beautiful. Sighing as she climbed out the window and stood precariously on the ledge, she looked out at the world and closed her eyes as she outstretched her arms and allowed the wind to swirl through her hair.\\--//

“Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be free?” She questioned as she looked into playful violet eyes.
“I imagine that it feels like it did when my friend and I stole from places.”
“I imagine that it would be like flying.” The girl said in a whisper.
Though his eyes remained playful, he gave a small smile to her. “How about I help you find out?”
“You’ll take me flying?”
“All you have to do is… give me a kiss.”
“Hmm…” She gave it a moments thought before giggling and giving a nod.
“Then come on.” He offered as his hand reached for hers. Slowly she came to him and his arms wrapped around her as he allowed his wings to stretch to their full length. With a tremendous force, he launched them into the air and she squealed with joy. “So, do you feel free?”
With a knowing smile, she shook her head no. “I knew that it would not.”
“Then why agree to a kiss when you already knew the answer?”
“To prove that I was right.”
“About?”
“I have always been chained with responsibilities. Inuyasha shattered a few of those chains while I was in love with him. Though I still am, I know that we could never be.”
“Why is that, Kagome?”
“Because Kuronue, he would need to shatter them all to set me free.”
She kept her eyes closed as the wind continued to play with her obsidian locks. Another memory raced through her mind this time.
“I’ve heard that you have a mate-to-be,” said a smooth voice from the trees.
“Mate-to-be involves having a promise to mate, we have no such thing.”
“Ah, you may not have it in words, but you keep it in your hearts.”
“Silly bat,” was her giggly response.
“So are you free from your bonds?”
A sigh, “no.”
“I thought you said…”
“He makes me forget my chains. I will give him a chance since I love him already.”
That memory made a sad smile appear on her face as she thought of it. Even then she knew that something could go wrong with their relationship. And something had.
“I’m not sure that you can hear me, Kagome, but I hope you can. Your chains were not broken this time, so perhaps some one else is suppose to hold your heart. I know that you won’t be forever chained within this purgatory, so I have a favor of you to ask.” Kuronue gave a little sigh before he smiled. “I know you keep my pendant for me, and I want you to call for me when you’re free. I wish to see you when you’re truly happy. But you can call me even if it’s to help you fight.”
Her arms moved and her hands slowly clasped the blood red jewel that lay around her neck. I am happy Kuronue. I am free. She whispered to it as her eyes slowly opened. I need you, come to me. Please. With this, she slipped from the sill and began descending towards the ground with her eyes once more closed. Energy surrounded her before she touched the ground and she somehow lay at the base of Goshinboku.
Moments later did she feel his approach. Opening her stormy eyes, she looked into his shining rubies. “Come Hiei, I need to speak with you.”
He was going to give her something, and he was going to do it now. But when he got there, he spied her laying beneath the God Tree. When she opened her eyes he nearly died from shock. There in the clashing skies was an ancient look that no ningen should ever hold. And her words made him want to shake. She sounded so serious, and he was afraid that she regretted agreeing to be his. But still he followed her. He was led into the woods in the back of her property and to a small pond.
Silence lay between them as her hand slowly reached out to the waters that lay within the grassy floor. “There are things you don’t know about me Hiei, things that I do not wish to relive. I will not go into detail; I will simply explain all that is necessary.”
“What do you mean?” He asked quietly, relieved that she had not decided she no longer wished to be with him.
“I am not exactly ningen Hiei.” He was about to interrupt, but she stopped him. “I have an eternal life span. I am an immortal.”
“How?” was the only thing he could ask.
“The Shikon no Tama granted it to me.”
“Shikon no Tama? But that would make you…”
“Shikon no Megami by title, yes,” her eyes closed as she blocked out what had happened all those years ago. “I was deemed that because I was the only one capable of keeping all four souls calmed and pure. I kept the youki in check without destroying it.”
“But you are a miko.” He stated.
“I am me,” was her whispered response. “I do not slay demons simply because they are so, just as I do not purify only demonic evil. For that, my friends deemed me Junsui. In the beginning years I saw no problem in killing harmful youkai, but I could not condone the death of any human. That soon changed after all the atrocities that I had witnessed after about two years of our journey. I soon condoned the killing of evil humans as well. But all beings were offered a second chance. Soon my definitions of right and wrong blurred and I came up with my own definitions. In the end I made a bargain with Enma to atone for the sins of those whose souls were lost to Naraku’s evil wishes and desires. Any who fought on our side would be given a second chance at life to make their own atonements, but I was a fool. It was shortly after the battle that he came for me. He’d seen what I had accomplished and he feared it.” Now tears were threatening to fall, and she could barely keep them at bay.
Hiei stepped forward and pulled her soothingly into his arms. It was strange for him to hear that the battle that was fought had occurred with her inside it. Worse yet was the direction she was heading with this. “Continue.”
With a nod, she did so. “They all stood up for me, stating that they would not allow him to take me. It was in that battle which most of our allies fell. He had brought many of what he’d called ‘SDF’, and some of our comrades could not stand against them. Two of my best friends fell in that battle. Sango and Miroku were to be married soon. Then the man I’d fallen for, who’d just asked me to become his mate fell. I couldn’t take anymore and I rushed forward to his side. Enma took his chance and struck at me with his magical attack. Just before my power gave out my body was transported away from him and my soul unleashed its wrath upon them. All the higher SDF fell that day so that Enma would never again be capable of controlling A and S class demons.”
“He stole your soul?”
“Yes.”
“Then how do you have it now?”
She looked up and he could see that the gray was overpowering the blue. “I don’t.”
“What?” He questioned with widened eyes.
“I have two pieces of it. One of my friends had forewarned me of an impending betrayal, and so I hid a piece of my soul within a trinket he had me carry. Yoshiro stole the piece that revived me which was contained within the Orb of Life.” Hiei’s eyes widened at that. “One piece lays within my pocket as well.” She said as she took out a brilliant blue jewel. “Yoshiro just stole this from Reikai as they panicked over Naraku’s release. The spell I placed on him would hold him in confinement as long as I lived. I had not intended to become an immortal, and my plan was to seal the spell within my soul, as a soul’s eternal. But Enma shattered mine and scattered the pieces along the three realms which he made from them. It was the pure energy of my soul which held the Khekkai up. The barrier was weak as it held only a portion of my soul, a small fraction.”
“How do you survive with so little soul?”
“Shippo and Yoshiro help me. They feed me their youki to keep my body stabilized and connected to the earth. Elemental jyaki is best for that, and Shippo holds the element of fire within him. Yoshiro is a little more difficult to pinpoint as his is mostly shadow.”
“You survive off of youki?”
“Yes. Reiki works as well, but youki is best as it is more potent.”
“Interesting.”
“What? 221;
“Do you know the properties of the mating mark?”
Kagome’s eyes widened before she looked up at him. “You can send youki through it at will without being in contact with me. It’s a defense so that if we’re both at a point where neither can expel our energy through our own body, we can expel it through our mate’s.”
“You had not thought of that, had you?”
“None of us had.” Kagome admitted.
“I have a question for you.”
“Hai?”
“Why tell me all this now?”
“If we are to mate, I wish to not keep secrets from you. True I still hold many, but I am not ready to speak of all my past just yet. I was trapped in a diamond shell for seven hundred years and I was aware of all that happened around me. I learned techniques through whispers and I learned of my families’ deaths from the earth.”
“Your family?”
“I had a brother, mother, and grandfather.” She whispered out sadly. “They used to live on this shrine, two hundred years ago.”
“What?”
And she turned to him with a soft smile. “When I turned fifteen I was pulled down the well here on the shrine and it transported me to Sengoku Jedai. After two years of traveling back and forth between the two times, I became trapped in the past. Soon I forgot my present and the past became it, though I never forgot my waiting family.”
“You have been through much.”
“Hai, and now I’m finally free.” She whispered as she closed her eyes.
“Free?”
“I once had a conversation like this with one of my friends. I had asked him what he thought it was like to be free and after he answered he returned the question. He was a bat demon and offered me a chance to find out if I was right.”
“What do you mean?”
“I told him that I thought to be free would feel like flying, so in exchange for a kiss, he flew me through the air. It was wonderful, but I was both right and wrong.”
“How so.”
“I already knew that I wouldn’t feel free. When he asked why I accepted his price when I already knew the answer, I told him it was because I wanted to prove my point. I said that I have always been chained with responsibilities and that only one who could free me could be the one I spent eternity with. Inuyasha broke a few of my chains when I loved him. Shou broke a few more, but he made me forget the rest. You Hiei, you’ve shattered them all.”
“So I freed you?”
“Hai,” she whispered as she turned her glowing eyes to him. “And it is time that I free you.”
“What…?” He started only to be halted when he saw the bluish-silver glow that outlined her form.
He could feel as the purification wrapped around his body, slowly twisting into his very soul. Her energy intertwined with his own and he could feel as his raging elements calmed and became soothed. The bindings on his right arm fell off as even his warded headband erupted in violet flames. The eye pulsed open as the dragon wrapped tighter onto his arm. Black energy began swirling around them as it grew brighter and brighter. Violet energy emanated from the Jagan as it began to fully submit to its master’s will. “My gift to you is the freedom of control.”
When she stepped back, he found it to be true. His aura was completely soothed, as was his heart, mind, and soul. The blood of innocents no longer stained his hands, and he looked up to her, “how?”
“I have learned many things Hiei, and I have the ability to become what Enma fears.”
“Then why do you not?”
“I have no reason to.” She whispered as she turned to him. “Do you still wish me as yours Hiei?”
“No.” He whispered, causing her to look away before he stood and turned her back to facing him. “I wish to mate you, but you won’t belong to me. You said it yourself, you’re free.”
“Hiei!” she exclaimed with tears in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck and brought his lips down to hers to meet in a kiss.

The hi-youkai looked at him for a few moments before deciding to tell him. “I have taken a mate.”
“What? Was it that ningen girl that Keiko and I saw you with the other day?”
Hiei’s eyes shifted instantly to him. “You saw us?”
“Yeah, and I told Keiko that we should keep it to ourselves.” Yusuke said with a shrug. “So is she your new mate?”
“Hai.”
“When do I get to meet her?”
Red eyes flashed to meet amber and he looked for a few moments before sighing and looking ahead. “Tonight if you want; and you can bring Keiko.”

The group of three looked up the steps that would lead to a shrine and Yusuke grumbled about there probably being more steps than at Genkai’s. Keiko simply giggled and told him to hurry up. “He’ll come back. He has to.” She whispered as she looked up at Keiko. “Hiei is strong, I’m sure he can survive anything the world throws at him.”
“I heard that you know a lot about history and demons, is that true?”
“I wouldn’t admit to knowing a lot, but I suppose I know more than most people.”
“Do you know about Raizen?” the two demons heard this and paused in their own conversation to hear the answer.
Delighted surprise filled the girl’s eyes as she looked at the girl with amber specs dancing in her now sapphire orbs. “Hai! Do you ask because you know him? If so, is he ok? I haven’t seen him in ages!”
“Seen?” Yusuke choked out as he turned to them. “You knew my old man?”
“Your old man? Does that mean that you’re the descendent he was hoping for? The one that has his demonic powers, but not the hunger? The new breed of Mazoku?”
“You talk fast,” Yusuke said as he started laughing. “But anyways,” he started as his laughter stopped, “Raizen passed away a few years ago.”
“Oh…”
“How well did you know him?” Keiko asked softly at the girl’s saddened look.
“He was a close friend,” the woman commented just as softly. “I knew him very well, him and Hokoshin.”
“You know the monk?” questioned Yusuke as he looked to her.
“Hai, though I’ve not seen him in ages either. Is he, at least, doing alright?”
“He’s alive and well,” Yusuke promised with a smile, chuckling slightly as she seemed to glow with that information. “No wonder Hiei likes you; you’re as odd as he is.”
Slowly she looked up, straight into his amber colored eyes as she gave him a soft smile. “Odd is only another way of saying special, and to be special means that I am individual, and that means that I am me.”
The wisdom held within her words stunned the two guests for a few moments before Yusuke started laughing and Keiko smiled. The Mazoku looked to Hiei now, “tell me Hiei, where’d you meet her?”

Hello everyone! This is yet another chapter of my story ‘Shikon No Megami’. I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. I appreciate any comments/reviews that any of you leave and I thank you for reading and/or reviewing this story.Ok, now I feel really bad that I haven’t updated in about a year since so much happened and I had thought I’d fully posted this story, so here’s a second chapter as a treat.
