Summary: The day the world was broken.
----
It was late in the night and a few were still
awake at the Palace of the Moon. One of those whom were alert was
the lord of the palace, Sesshoumaru. He and his mate Kagura were
expecting a child this night, and soon it would be that the child
would arrive. This child would be Sesshoumaru’s heir, even
though he had adopted Rin as his daughter, a child by blood took
higher position than her. In truth, if he would fall before he
conceived an heir, then the lands would go to his younger brother,
as he was blood.
Such thoughts were interrupted when a scream pierced the air. At the sound, the demon lord’s blood went cold; for it was not the scream of an infant, but of his mate. Rushing toward the chamber, he was met by one of the handmaids at the door. “Forgive me my lord, but you mustn’t enter the birthing chamber. The Lady Kagura is alright, but there is a complication with the infant. All will be well.”
“Complication?” Sesshoumaru inquired as he stared down at her shaking form.
“The baby is not in breach position, and is trying to come out wrong, my lord.” The scent of blood wafted from within the chamber, and the demon’s eyes tinged red. The shaking demoness quivered even more at the sight and promised him that his mate would be fine. It was several hours later that her statement was proved true.

That very same night, Kagome was with Hiei,
passionately kissing while trapped within his embrace. The kiss had
been soft and slow, steadily building with its passion. A pulling
need was drawing them both together, a need to be wanted, to feel
loved. It was a need to simply feel the other as close as was
possible, and the need was the driving force behind the deepening
embrace.
A battle raged between them as both fought for dominance within the burning kiss. It was a slow battle, arduously fought, for neither wished to lose. It was the winner whom would set the pace. Slowly Hiei’s hand descended to the woman’s hip and squeezed slightly, causing her to gasp and winning him an advantage in the kiss; her hands snaked into his hair, twisting within the soft tips. The demon moaned slightly as Kagome took control of the kiss. The battle was nothing more than a slow torture. And slowly the torture increased as their bodies pressed closer together, almost molding into one, except for the clothing separating them.
It was at those thoughts that both sets of hands began to move along the others’ body, removing the offending pieces. To their current states of mind, separation was not an option. The kiss broke only a moment as both their shirts were removed and tossed aside, and then it once again deepened. The hi-youkai’s hands slowly moved toward the constricting device on his mate’s chest and easily removed the piece of cloth. Then the hands began their descent, pants were removed as were underclothes, they went everywhere, the two no longer caring where.
The demon slowly took possession of the kiss, backing the miko up until the back of her legs bumped the end of the bed. Without breaking the kiss, Hiei slowly lifted her and set her bottom on the mattress. The kiss broke only because of the need for air, and slowly Kagome slid herself back and pillowed herself on the feathery pillows at the head of the bed. Her inky black hair splayed out across the pillows, surrounding her like a dark halo. Her red lips set off her pale skin, making her look like a beauty of the night. Skin so pale it looked like beams of moonlight.

“Where’s Hiei?” the question
had Kagome turning to smile at her youngest son, Yoshiro.
“He left for Makai, to train,” she replied as her smile remained happy.
Noticing her smile, Yoshiro also smiled and pulled her closer to him in a tight embrace. “I am so happy for you momma, so happy to see you happy.”
“I’ve been happy since I awakened.”
“No momma,” he whispered with saddened eyes. “You’ve not been happy, especially like this, since dad died. I’ve seen how your eyes now glow with joy, the way they did only when my father was with you.” His own eyes closed as he sighed in pain. “It was so long ago to both of us, and yet, neither of us are over it.”
Kagome turned within his embrace and wrapped her arms tight around him, pulling him deep within her loving embrace. “No one ever gets over the ones they love, they simply move on; and you of all people should know that everyone lives on in the lives of those they love. The dead are honored and remembered by us, the living. Soon, my son, it will be the day to honor the fallen.”
Surprise showed within violet eyes as they stared deep into her blue-gray, “you’ve kept track all this time?”
Though her eyes darkened slightly, it was for only a moment before returning to the clashing colors. “One can never forget the day the world was broken.”

“Have you found out what has been going
on?” questioned Kagome as she looked to her oldest son. It
had been a few days and Hiei had yet to return from his training
within the Makai.
“I’ve not been able to find much, only that a group of demons had been looking for the resting place of Naraku and that they thought he had the right idea in taking over rule. It’s a group that despises Enma, and many people will go to his side if Enma is the only target he will openly oppose. I’ve also been able to hear that he was revived, but that they gave him a different body.”
“What should we do?” Yoshiro questioned as he looked to Kagome, hoping his mother would know.
Her eyes hardened slightly as she looked at them, a resolve forming within her mind. “Tell the others to spread whispers and rumors, tell them to let others know, tell them that Shikon no Megami has returned.”
“But momma!” Shippo exclaimed as he looked at her. “Enma will come for you if he finds out!”
The woman nodded to that, thinking for a moment longer. “Which of you is the better tracker?”
“What do you need?” asked Yoshiro as he stepped forward.
“Find Yusuke Urameshi; tell him that I wish to see him.”
“Momma?” the boy questioned as he looked at her.
“Please Yoshiro; for me?”
“Hai momma, anything,” and he vanished from sight.
Kagome turned to look out one of the windows, staring deep into the slowly darkening sky. “We’ve been together a long time Shippo, and soon, I will have to leave.”
“Momma?”
“You know that I am not meant to be here,” her tone was sad as the words were spoken. “I am not bound to this world anymore, and I know that you know of this.”
“But I don’t want you to leave, no one does.”
Turning, she saw the tears running down her boy’s face and she saddened at knowing she caused them. “I do have an idea, though I will still have to leave for a time.”
“I’d rather lose you again for centuries than lose you for an eternity.”
“And I feel the same for you,” the woman whispered just as a knock sounded on the door.

It was simple to find the spirit detective;
Yoshiro simply followed his energy signal to his house. Slowly
making his way to the building that held the signal, he paused a
moment when he saw that it was an apartment building. With a sigh,
the boy wandered into the place and began feeling it out. Following
Yusuke’s energy was also easy as he in no way had it masked,
though he shouldn’t really need to as he was in the
Ningenkai. So it was with a shrug to himself that the boy knocked
on the door.
A man with slicked back black hair opened the door with a bit of a cocky smirk, “never expected ya ta knock on the door.”
“My mother, Kagome, wishes to speak with you about something.”
“Kagome? Hiei’s mate?”
“Hai,” the boy replied. “She asked that I find you and ask you to meet with her.”
“Alright, just give me a minute,” the man said as he turned back into the house and told his own mother that he’d be back at some point and closed the door behind him.

“I’m so glad that you arrived when
you did, Hiei. I must speak with you before Yusuke
arrives.”
“Yusuke is coming here? Why?” the demon questioned as he looked at his mate.
“I sent Yoshiro to fetch him because something has come up and I also need your help with this matter. I want your opinion of Prince Koenma.”
Hiei’s eyes widened as he looked at Kagome before they closed, “why do you need that?”
“I have come to a decision and it is time I made my stand. Enma has ruled for a very long time and several demons are planning to put an end to it, I must step forward to stop the demons from amassing behind their leader and I must do it soon. If I do this, then Enma will come after me and I will stop him, kill him if I must. I need your opinion on Koenma so I know if he would be a fitting ruler.”
“You’re not serious…”
“Oh, I’m deadly serious. A fight is coming, and I need to have this information now.”

“So why was I called here?”
“Detective,” Hiei said as he walked into the room. “My mate summoned you because she has need of your help.”
“My help?”
“Apparently, she has managed to gather information that your team has not.”
“What is it?”
“She knows of what happened centuries ago and is willing to share that as well as the demons future plans.”
“What? How the hell does she know all of that?”
“She has her sources within the Makai and Ningenkai which are appropriately placed in which they can hear things.”
“Well, what does she want in return?”
“A meeting with Koenma,” Hiei said calmly, even though he did not in any way seem happy about it.

“You found a source of information?”
Kuwabara questioned as he looked at their team leader. “Who
is it?”
“A surprise actually.”
“You speak as though you know the source personally, Yusuke.” Kurama looked to him in thought, “is it, perhaps, one of the demon monks whom followed Raizen?”
“No, but you’ll meet ‘em in a few if Koenma agrees to their terms.”
“Terms?” the other two asked at the same time.
“Yeah, the person set a term for the information.”
“What is it, Urameshi?” asked Kuwabara as he looked at Yusuke.
“”Hello Botan,” he said quickly as she popped up. “It’s about time.”
“Sorry, Koenma has been busy though.”
“Never mind that, just take us to him.”
“Right,” a shimmering portal appeared in front of them and they all stepped through it and Botan opened the doors to Koenma’s office. “Sir, Yusuke and the others are here.”
“Thank-you Botan,” he said as he looked up at them. He seemed tired as he sat there, and old. “I’ve been told that you have something that you desired to tell me.”
“Hai, I’ve managed to find an information source. They say that they know about what happened in the past and say that they know this demon’s intentions for the future.”
“What’s the catch?” Koenma asked carefully as he thought on it; if the price wasn’t too high, than he might be willing to agree to it.
“They only want a meeting with you, on their property within the Ningenkai.”
“What? That’s all?”
“Hai.”
“Then I can not turn it down,” the prince of Reikai said as he morphed into his teenage form in order to portal down to the human realm. Only an hour later and Yusuke had led the team, including Botan, to the bottom of the Sunset Shrine, “a shrine?”
“Yeah, this is where she lives.”
“She?” questioned Botan as the ferry-girl looked to Yusuke in surprise.
“Yes, it’s a girl,” Yusuke murmured as he looked ahead. It took them only a few more minutes to reach the top, and that’s when they felt the rush of energy surround them; “this way.”
The group was led inside to a sitting room in which they saw Hiei leaning against a wall; to the other side of the room were two other demons. “Where is this information source?”
At that question, the demon with auburn hair pushed himself forward, causing the others to tense as his energy surrounded him. “Momma will be joining us shortly, but first I would like to warn you.”
“Warn us?” Kurama murmured in question as he looked at his fellow kitsune.
“Hai,” he answered as he looked straight at Koenma. “Try to harm her, or even think about it, and I will kill you. Not even your father would be able to save you from my wrath.”
“Shippo,” it was an issued command and both the unknown demons and Kurama understood it. It meant to stand down, and so the kitsune did, and to Kurama’s surprise it was at the command of a young human female. Though there was something about the girl that seemed more mature and made her feel like she was much older than she looked. It was then that she turned her eyes to them; they were a clashing blue-gray and looked like a stormy sky. “I am Kagome Jaganashi, Hiei’s mate, and it is a pleasure to meet you all.”
“Jaganashi… but that means… are you really…” Kuwabara began as he looked between the girl and Hiei.
It was with a smile that she nodded, “hai. Now, I asked you here Koenma, so that I could see for myself what type of being you are.”
“What type of being I am?” he questioned as he looked at her curiously.
“Yes, and it seems that you are a wise man. I set a single condition for the information you wished, and you came here even though it could have been a trap. You are wise for coming in hopes of the information and in the fact that you have brought your team with you for protection, and you are brave for coming to face the possibility of a trap. Now I must know; how do you feel about your father?”
“My father?” the prince questioned, seemingly surprised.
“Hai, it is imperative that I have that information before I begin the tale of which you wish to hear.”
“My father is a busy man and hasn’t much time to be spending with me, though he is rather cruel in his punishments.”
“That is because he fears disloyalty and even revolt,” the woman whispered as she looked to him. At the questioning gleam in his eyes, she merely held up a hand. “Now is not the time for your questions, as it is there is to be a long night ahead of us and perhaps more depending on how much of the story you wish to hear.”
“As much as you are willing to tell.”
“I must warn you that the story is a long one and will take much time to convey.”
“I am willing to stay as long as needed to know the truth of what transpired.”
A small smile touched Kagome’s lips as she looked at the demi-god before her. “Then the story you shall hear.”
“A surprise actually.”

It had been a long night as promised and had even
taken most of the morning. By the end of the tale, Koenma was
appalled at the actions of his own father and the others were all
equally upset of the events of the past. Hiei was more so than the
others as he had yet to hear all of what happened, though they all
knew that she had still left some of the tale out, mainly the parts
she had deemed were unimportant for what they had needed to know.
The last bit of information that was given to them was that it was
she whom had sealed the demon in the past, and it was she whom was
sealed away for becoming that which Enma feared.
“Kagome-sama,” Koenma began, reverence leaking deep into his voice. “What is it you think this demon is planning to do?”
The title of respect not only surprised her, but the others as well; though she recovered more quickly than the rest. “Naraku plans to draw all demons to his side which will stand against Enma, though he will use a different name in order to do so as many demons despise him as well for his actions in the feudal era all those centuries ago.”
“And how do we stop him?”
“We will counteract his efforts for now, and that is precisely why I need your help,” she murmured as she withdrew a scroll from the sleeve of the kimono she wore. “This is a scroll that states who previously defeated him. I would like you to spread rumors that Shikon no Megami has returned and that she wishes all those loyal to return to her side, the people will know where to go. Spread word through all the realms and that will draw people away from him.”
“Why do you need our help to do that, Kagome-sama?”
“If your father should question the rumors, simply tell him that you found that scroll and deduced that it would scare Naraku enough that it would give him pause in his actions. I wish for him to not figure it out that I’m alive unless he absolutely must know.”
“Very well, but I have a question,” Koenma said as he looked deep into her eyes.
“Yes?”
“How were you revived?”
A small smile touched Kagome’s lips at the question and her eyes flickered to the two boys in the room. “My sons saw fit to retrieve the Orb of Life which contained within it a fragment of my soul.”

With the rumors that were now circulating as well
as her call, Kagome knew it would not be long before he came to
find her; and so she wasn’t surprised when he arrived at the
door. Opening it, she found herself looking into stunning violet
eyes. Wrapping her arms around the demon, she allowed a few tears
to fall, “It is about time you showed up.”
“Forgive me, Kagome-sama, but I had other matters of which I needed to attend.”
“At least you’re here now,” her whispered words held slight pain and it caused the male to pull her that much farther into his embrace.
“I’ll never leave you again, imouto.”
A giggle escaped the woman’s lips as she looked up into his eyes, happy to finally see them again after so long. “Aniki, I missed you so much.”
“You missed everyone,” he pointed out.
“Hai; and you were one of the ones I missed the most, for you were there for me many times when I needed it.”
“Of course I was there for you; you were like the little sister I never had.”
“Thank-you, Kuronue.”

“Kuronue-kun!” exclaimed Yoshiro as
he raced to hug the bat youkai. “However have you been? I
haven’t seen you since…”
“It has been a long time,” he filled in with a slight smile. “And I am proud of how you boys adapted to my lifestyle.”
“Your lifestyle?” questioned the woman whom had just walked in before it suddenly hit her. “You were the one to turn my boys into thieves?”
“A skill that every demon should know,” the bat filled in with a smirk.
“And it really helped,” supplied Shippo as he looked at Kuronue in a happy manner. “You should see all the money we’ve managed to acquire through the years.”
“Yes, they have managed to accumulate quite a sum of money,” Kagome easily agreed. “They actually rebuilt the shrine for me, after buying it from the previous owners.”
“And have they told you yet what has happened with your family?”
“My family?” she questioned as she turned to the boys. “What does he mean?”
Both boys gulped before Shippo bravely stepped forward, “when you first showed up, you were so sad that all we could think of was trying to get your mind off the past; so we completely forgot to tell you, but momma, I went to grandma’s.”
“You saw my mother?”
“Hai, and told her of what happened. She was happy that at least you weren’t dead, and she told me that if you were awakened, she would make sure Souta passed on that you still lived to his children, and they would continue to pass on your tale.”
“Souta’s descendents?”
“Hai, all we have to do is wait for word to spread. This would be the first place that they would check if they still believe in the tale.”

“So all of you are once again congregating
in our apartment?” questioned a red headed girl as she looked
at the others all gathered in the living-room.
“Yeah, the guys have a new case,” Keiko answered as she looked at the other girl. “Koenma was here a few minutes ago with Botan, but they had to leave.”
“So what exactly is going on?”
“Apparently this evil demon that was sealed seven hundred years ago has been revived and they’re trying to stop him.”
Shizuru moved closer to the group and bonked her brother on the head just as Koenma returned. “So tell me bro, what’s happening in the new case?”
However, it was Koenma that answered, “There is a demon amassing others to his side in an attempt to overthrow the Reikai and kill my father.”
Shizuru merely snorted at that, silently thinking that the man deserved it, “what else?”
“This lady called Shikon no Megami has returned,” Kuwabara blurted out.
The cigarette which was between the older woman’s lips fell as those crossed through her mind. It had been a very long time, but she still remembered the tale that her mother had once told her, the tale of their ancestor’s older sister. A name found its way to her lips, being murmured so low that not even the demons could hear her. It was Kagome, the name she vaguely remembered, from a tale told so many years ago when both her and Kazuma had still been little. When her eyes finally focused, she could tell that the others were all worried about her, but she merely turned her focus onto her brother. “Kazuma, have you met this lady?”
“Ah… yeah sis.”
“Was it at Sunset Shrine?” she questioned, her gaze intense as she looked at him. When he nodded, she turned toward the door, “I have to go there.” And she paused a moment before turning and grabbing her brother’s arm, “no, we have to go there.”
“Shizuru?” Keiko questioned as she looked at her older friend, “is everything ok?”
“Yeah, the guys have a new case,” Keiko answered as she looked at the other girl. “Koenma was here a few minutes ago with Botan, but they had to leave.”

“Why is there another demon here?”
Hiei questioned as he stared into Shippo’s eyes while they
were both in the kitchen.
“Because I invited him,” Kagome responded as she walked into the kitchen with a smile. “He is like my older brother and I met him while I traveled in Sengoku Jedai.”
“Is he one of the demons you mentioned?”
“No; I had no need to mention him, but he is a bat youkai by the name of Kuronue.”
“Kuronue?” that name had the fire demon stunned as he looked to his mate. “Do you mean the bat demon which was once partner to Youko Kurama?”
“Hai, do you know him?” she questioned with a happy smile.
“No, but I know Youko.”
“You do?” she asked excitedly. “Kuronue will be so happy, he left to search for his partner many times; which is why he was not in my tale.”
“Youko said that he had died though.”
“Almost,” Kagome replied with a sad smile. “The men from the castle had surrounded them, and that was when Inuyasha and I arrived. We told them to stop and that we would take care of the demon, and so they left us there, thinking that a priestess would indeed destroy the demon. You see, Inuyasha had his human night that night, though I highly doubt Kuronue remembers as much of that night and the next week were a blur to him. I managed to stop the bleeding, but realized that one of the bamboo spears had hit a major artery, so I had to act fast and use some of my healing abilities to help him.”
“You saved Kuronue from death?”
“Yes, and we have been close ever since, though neither of us said anything till shortly before the battle when he warned me that he thought Enma was planning something and had me take precautions.”
“Precautions?” inquired the hi-youkai.
Kagome smiled and nodded as she pulled a pendant from beneath her shirt, “this was his, a gift from his mother. He gave it to me and told me to store a portion of my soul inside, so that my soul would always be grounded to this world.”
“I wish to meet this demon,” Hiei stated as he looked into his mate’s eyes. She gave a happy smile and nod as she took his hand in her own and began leading him into the living room.
The demon he saw was simply relaxing on the couch, though he wore a pointed hat that hid his ears and was looking at the television. The demon was dressed in a purple outfit, and he in no way looked to be human, so how was it he’d managed to get past all the other humans? It wasn’t long before he noticed their presence and turned to look at them. First he smiled at Kagome, and then he looked Hiei over, “so you must be the mate I’ve been hearing about.”
“I am Hiei.”
The bat gave him a smirk and a nod at that, “I’m Kuronue, and it is a pleasure to meet the one who finally freed my sister from her bonds.”
“Kuronue!” the woman exclaimed as she gave him her best attempt at a glare.
“What? I was merely stating a fact.”
“You’re incorrigible,” Kagome murmured before sighing at him. “Anyways, Hiei says that he knows Youko.”
“In truth?” the bat questioned, hope gleaming within his violet eyes.
“Hai, he was killed by a spirit hunter and fled into Ningenkai where he took over the body of an unborn child. He is now an avatar, which Kagome has actually made acquaintance with.”
“Kagome?” the bat asked as he turned to her, only to have her shrug.
“The one they were calling Kurama, his human name is Shuichi Minamino.”
“Oh…” the girl gasped as her eyes widened in almost total surprise. “Then I did meet him, he was just here the other day when I had a meeting with Prince Koenma.”
“You met with Koenma?” Kuronue questioned. “Are you crazy?”
“I had a plan, and it has worked.”
“Right…”
They were interrupted as a knock sounding on the door, surprising all present and causing Shippo and Yoshiro to enter the room as well. None of them were expecting anyone, but Kagome calmed when she realized whom it was. “It is Yusuke and the others, including Kurama.”
“What are they doing here?” Shippo questioned himself as he headed toward the door. When he opened it, he was surprised to see that the Kuwabara kid was being pulled by another, older woman, “hello?”
The older woman looked at him, her eyes seemed to know something, and it surprised him. The girl assessed him for a few minutes before speaking in question, “Shippo?”
“How do you know that?” the kitsune asked as the other in the house came toward the door, though Kuronue remained hidden from sight.
The older girl’s eyes then turned to Kagome and they seemed to glow at that, “I am Shizuru Kuwabara, and I am here because of a story my mother once told me; a story of the Shikon priestess.”
“Shizuru?” questioned Kuwabara as he looked up at her.
“Are you a descendent of Souta Higurashi?” asked the miko.
A smile overtook the older woman’s face at that, “then you must be Kagome-sama.”
“Yes,” the miko responded as she rushed forward and hugged the other woman.
“I can’t believe that the story was actually true, mother said it was, but I simply couldn’t believe it.”
“What is going on?” asked Kurama as he looked at the two girls curiously.
Kagome was the one who answered as she looked at the others, “I told you of how I was born in a time two hundred years ago, well my name was Kagome Higurashi and I had a little brother named Souta. He was told of what happened to me and he passed the tale along to all of his children.”
“And we’re his descendants?” asked Kuwabara as he looked at her and his sister.
“Yeah Kazuma, we’re descendants of her little brother.”
“Because I invited him,” Kagome responded as she walked into the kitchen with a smile. “He is like my older brother and I met him while I traveled in Sengoku Jedai.”

“Where are we going Master Genkai?”
Yukina questioned as she looked at the older woman that she was
following.
“We are headed to the Sunset Shrine.”
“Another shrine?” the ice maiden asked curiously.
Genkai nodded, though she remained in thought as she did so. It had been a long time since she had even thought of the tale of which she had recently heard about. So long had it been that some of the details had been a little sketchy and she had combed through her temple in order to find the scrolls that detailed the quest and all that happened afterward. Once she found it, she knew she was right and had immediately told Yukina that they had somewhere that they needed to go. It had been quite some time since she had really been into the city, but it couldn’t be helped now.
Thinking on it, she reminded herself that there were others, those humans that still remembered the events of that day; those who would honor the return of the woman who brought them to salvation, and those who would follow her simply because of her greatness. There were also many demons that would come to her aid, many that would betray anyone to be at her side as she had once fought for all of them. It was she alone that was able to win that darkest of days all those years ago.

I hope that you have enjoyed this chapter, and I
am trying to write updates that are of descent length as well as
good detail, though I may have this story finished by the time I go
to post it. As a matter of fact this story was finished before I
began posting it, and there are only two chapters left after this
one.
