Author: Chrystal-Hearts (Chrystaline)
Summary: The day the world was broken.
----
So much happened in such a short amount of time, and Kagome was
surprised to find that Souta’s descendants had some sort of
spiritual awareness, especially Shizuru. She had also found that
Shizuru remembered living on the shrine grounds once when she was
really little, but that they had to move because of a job her
father had gotten in Kyoto. That’s when she told of how their
parents had gotten into a car crash and how she had raised her
brother, Kazuma, as best she could on her own. Kagome said that she
was sure their parents were proud of the both of them, and Koenma
and the others were surprised that the two Kuwabaras were related
to Kagome; though Koenma said that it did explain how normal
teens could be so accepting of demons and why they had such high
spiritual awareness. It was while they were talking that another knock sounded on the door, and this time Yoshiro opened it and ushered the guests in without question. He then led them straight to Kagome who looked at the old psychic as well as the young ice maiden and smiled widely as she hugged both. It was Genkai that she spoke to first though, “You must be a descendant of Sango and Miroku.” Then she turned to the ice maiden, “and you must be the daughter that Rui told me Hina had birthed.”
“Rui?” the ice maiden questioned.
“Hai, I knew her well; her and her younger sister Hina.”
“They were sisters?” the ice maiden asked with a gasp. “Rui never told me that.”
“They kept it a secret as Hina is only sixty years younger than Rui.”
“But that means…” Yukina started as her eyes went wide.
“Your mother was born from the union of a man and woman. Your grandmother was put to death for the action, but it was kept secret from most, and Rui was left to raise her little sister.”
“But mother never said anything and she didn’t seem any different, unlike me.”
A smile pulled at Kagome’s lips as she looked at the young maiden, “Hina came from the joining of an ice maiden, and an ice master.”
“So she was still pure ice?”
“Hai, though she had better control over it because of that.”
“Wait, you knew Yukina’s mother?” Kazuma asked as he looked at her.
“I met her a few times when our group needed healing abilities; it was actually Hina who taught me how to heal using my own powers, though I was closer to Rui than I was to her as I spent more time with the older ice maiden.”
“I came because word reached me of your return,” Genkai said as she looked to the miko. “My ancestors passed down the tale and told that if word spread, we should come here.”
“I am glad that Kaede had passed that on to their son and that he had passed that on to his children,” it was a sad smile that graced her lips as she spoke. “I only wish that Sango and Miroku could’ve lived to watch him grow.”
“Sango’s ways were carried on through their son, as another slayer village came to find and train him. It was a sister village to her own, and he married one of the slayers there. Both of them revived the old village where Sango and Miroku were honored and buried.”
Blue-gray eyes filled with tears as they looked up into the eyes of the psychic that was descended from two of her best friends. Such wisdom was held within those blue-gray orbs that the one who used them seemed almost ancient. It was a sad look which passed through them, causing the eyes to darken to a silvery color. “At least she was allowed the honor of joining her family in their resting place.”

“Why didn’t you tell me that you were mating, Hiei? I
thought that we were friends,” stated the red haired man
known as Kurama.//\\

“And what would you have done, fox? You would have demanded to meet her, and followed me when I denied you.”
“You show little trust in me, but I would’ve waited to meet her until you allowed me to.”
The hi-youkai slowly looked over the kitsune as he examined his words. He would expect the kitsune to meet his mate anyways, but perhaps the human portion of him had more control than he thought. “You may say that, but we shall never know now.”
“May I speak to your mate in person?”
“Kagome.”
That surprised the fox, “what?”
“My mate, her name is Kagome.”
“May I speak to Kagome?” the fox questioned instead.
“If she wishes to speak with you, hai.”

“We must figure out what Naraku’s plan is, and we need
to find a way to stop him,” Kagome said softly as she looked
between her two sons and her brother. “Do you know anything,
aniki?”//\\

“I’ve not heard much, though some rumors have begun to spread throughout the Makai.” After a moment of thought, he continued, “I’ve heard of a coming tournament that will decree the winner as king.”
Blue-gray eyes widened exponentially as the thought began racing around her head, it was so clear to her now. What better way to gain command over many, than to take control of the land. To stand against Enma would be even easier with demon backing behind them, but with this win, he would be in control of the central, eastern, and southern lands. “I know what he’s planning to do.”
“Mother?” Yoshiro asked cautiously as he looked upon her now constantly shifting eyes.
“Gather our allies and tell them to train hard, we all must be ready to battle.”
“Why must we be?” asked Shippo gently.
“I know what Naraku is planning, and battle is imminent, I want all of you to head into Makai and train hard.”
“But why?” questioned Kuronue as he looked at the miko. “What is he planning now?”
“His plans are to first gain control of the central, eastern, and southern lands. It is now time for us to regain control of what was once ours and this tournament is the only way.”
“You wish to retake our lands?” Yoshiro asked as he looked at both her and Shippo.
“No, but we need to show the others that we are back, and that we are still here.” Her eyes saddened slightly as they looked upon all three of the boys surrounding her. “Go now, and do not return until it is time.”
“Time?” asked Yoshiro, “how will we know when?”
“You will know, but it will not be for some while.”

It was some time before Hiei returned to the shrine, and with him
came the red haired demon named Kurama. She greeted both with a
smile and offered to make dinner for them, Hiei agreed with a nod,
while Kurama politely said yes. It was hours later that Kurama
left, and it was only after he had a talk with Kagome, though he
found no further information on her. She was like a puzzle to him,
a very interesting puzzle that he wished to solve.//\\

Kagome smiled mischievously as the kitsune left, and turning to her mate as she saw his smirk. He knew that she was teasing the fox with only slight information, and he was sure that she’d gotten that from her kit. “Now that we are alone, there is something that I wish to speak with you about.”
“Something that requires privacy?” he asked as he looked at her sad blue-gray eyes. Something was swirling within their depths as she looked into his own crimson. “What is wrong?”
“I will also be attending the tournament, Hiei. It is my belief that Naraku will make his move at that time, and I need to be ready.” Her softly spoken words had him shocked, but the way her eyes were slowly shifting further grey had him worried. “There’s something I need to do, and I must go into Makai so that I am able.”
“Then I will go with you,” he said softly as he looked at her.
“I actually need your help with something here,” she whispered as she turned to him. “I go to Makai to find pieces of my soul, but I need you to find the pieces that are in this world and the Spirit World.”
“The pieces of your soul, how many pieces are there?” he questioned with a bit of contempt in his voice. Enma would pay for what he did to his onna.
“Sixty, maybe more; I have three pieces in my possession and I’m not sure how many are where.”
“Will your sons be accompanying you?” he asked as he thought about the problem at hand. She did need her entire soul.
“My sons will be training for the upcoming battle and will not be around until after it. I shall go on my own to find the pieces.”
“You can’t go on your own,” he stated as he looked directly at her.
Her eyes turned to him and they glowed softly in the fading light, “I am able to do this, and I must so that I may become whole. Please have Koenma assist with the search in the Rekai, I shall return before the beginning of the tournament.”
“I do not want to let you go,” he admitted as he pulled her body into his embrace. “What if something happens to you? We haven’t been together very long, but I do care for you.”
A smile touched her lips at his words as she pulled back from him and looked into his eyes. Her hand slowly reached up and lay upon his cheek in a way of conveying her feelings for him. That moment seemed to last for hours, but in truth it lasted only moments. “Nothing will happen to me because I know that you will be here, awaiting my return. You must trust me Hiei, and you must train while I’m away. Remember what I told you about true power and about communicating with the plants surrounding you.”
His own hand raised and covered her own on his cheek as a single tear fell from her eyes. She did not want to go, but she needed to; she had to protect all that she cared for and she needed to be whole so that she could. “You will return.”
The statement made her smile even as she nodded her agreement. “Hai, I will return.” Pulling away from him she smiled even as he looked at her in confusion. “Time is short, and we both have tasks to accomplish,” and with her words the winds picked up and she vanished.
Hiei merely stared at the spot she had been only moments ago before he turned and made his way after the fox. His team would help him with the task she had given him, he knew they would… even if they didn’t know his mate that well, they will help if only because he asked them to.

The tantai were meeting at Genkai’s once again as the group
had been given a mission; true it was a mission from one of their
own, but they wanted to help him and they felt that what was done
to his mate was simply cruel. They also felt that she had left much
of the actual story out and only told them what they needed to know
in order to take on this new demon as well as be aware of what
Koenma’s father had done.//\\

Yusuke was the first to speak as the others joined him in the living room, “did anyone have any luck with their locations?”
Hiei nodded as he pulled two small glowing spheres from within his cloak and set them on the table in the middle. Kurama also gave a positive response as he took out one orb, but Kuwabara had to smile as he pulled out three and even Genkai placed one on the table. “You had one Genkai?”
“It has been passed down in my family ever since my ancestor, raised by the village miko, collected it,” the old woman said as she looked to the fox demon. “I was told that when the time came it would be needed to restore the priestess to her proper state.”
“Shizuru had one in storage from when mother gave it to her and told her the story of Grandpa Souta. She said that he got it from his grandfather and could instantly tell what it was.”
“By the way grandma where’s Yukina? Usually she’d be offering us some tea by now,” Yusuke said as he looked to the old woman.
“She said that she needed to visit Rui and ask her about their family.”
“Visit Rui, you mean the woman she said raised her?” questioned Kuwabara as he also looked at the old psychic. “I thought she didn’t wanna return to ice world?”
“She said that if Rui knew Kagome then she might also know something that could be helpful,” Genkai stated as she looked at the others. “Our main concern should be the continued search for more soul fragments.”
“Yukina will be fine, she is a female as well as an ice maiden,” Kurama murmured to the others. “Now where else should we search?”
Hiei looked around at the others as he thought about where to search next, “perhaps Koenma may know a few hiding places of his father’s.”
Yusuke nodded to the hybrid even as he started pulling out his communicator. After pressing a button he waited a moment for Botan to pop up on the screen of what appeared to be a make-up compact, “hello Yusuke.”
“Hey Botan, is Koenma around? We need to speak to him about something.”
“Sure thing,” she said as she opened a portal for them that led into the spirit prince’s office. “Koenma’s a bit busy though, so you’ll need to come here to speak with him. And don’t worry about being overheard, because he has a protective barrier around his office… just in case Shikon no Megami or the enemy demon tries to break in and get to him. It was King Enma’s orders.”
The detective chuckled at that as he stood and walked through the portal and into the spirit world. The others all followed him, including Genkai, and made their way into the office of the young prince. It wasn’t a big surprise to see him in his teenage form, though he usually tended to take his toddler form when in the spirit world.
Kurama was the first to speak as he snagged the spirit prince from his thoughts, “have you any idea where any soul fragments could have been placed?”
“Actually,” Koenma started with a sigh, “I have been able to locate at least a dozen scattered throughout the Reikai and about fifteen within Ningenkai.”
All of the team’s eyes widened at the news, but Yusuke jumped in first this time, “have you sent anyone to collect them? If not, give us some locations and we’ll separate to get them.”
Hiei had to give a slight smile at how quickly the detective had reacted at the mention of more soul fragments being found. It went a long way with showing how close the two that would be considered friends were. The detective barely knew his female and yet he was standing in front of all of them demanding locations so they could collect what had been found.
A sigh escaped the lips of the spirit prince at that though, “sadly they are all under heavily protected barriers and my father would notice if the barriers came down or were torn.”
“That does present a problem,” murmured Kurama only to be stopped by a vaguely familiar chuckle.
“I’ll slip through these ‘heavily protected’ barriers and secure the fragments of my imouto’s soul,” the voice was deep and dark, yet it did not sound malicious.
All those in the room had started looking around and even the Jagan had flared to life, though its bearer only gave an irritated growl. “Kuroune come out of hiding.”
At the name Kuroune one of the members nearly fainted from a mixture of surprise and suspense. Kuroune had been the name of the partner that Kurama had lost when he’d still been in his Youko form. Kuroune’s death was what had him cross over into the Rekai in order to hunt treasures.
Another dark chuckle escaped the shadows as a bat demon moved into sight from somewhere among the shadows and smirked at those gathered in the room before turning his eyes onto the one that had once been his partner. “I was glad when I heard that you had managed to escape those hunters, and I’m happy now for the chance to see you once again.”
“Impossible…” started the stunned kitsune avatar. “You were dying, I remember all of the blood and the humans were right behind us…”
The demon only chuckled once more. “All that blood was from the spear puncturing the artery in my ankle, as for the impossible, Kagome can accomplish some pretty amazing things.”
“Hiei’s mate?” asked the fox, once again stunned beyond speech.
“Who the fuck is this guy?” came the outburst from Yusuke as he looked between Hiei, the new demon, and Kurama.
The latter quickly composed himself as he looked to their team leader, “Kuroune was once my thieving partner long before my true form had been killed. It was during heist that everything went wrong; we were set up. The humans hunted us and as Kuroune returned a few feet for his pendant a bamboo spear pierced him and he lay dying. Somehow, though, he is right here in front of us.”
“Never mind that,” started Koenma, “how did you get into my office.”
A devious smirk now appeared on the lips of the bat demon, “that is for me and Kagome to know.”
A dangerous growl sounded from the back of Hiei’s throat and brought all of their attention back onto him, “it appears we have a way through the barriers, so the locations, Koenma!”
The others all jumped to work as Koenma had Botan bring him two maps and began plotting the areas that contained barriers filled with soul fragments. Once he was finished he handed both maps to Kurama and had a portal opened. The group left after hearing his final words to them, “that should be all in these two realms, but I can’t locate anything that is being kept in the Makai.”

Kagome easily made her way through the demon world and headed on a
steady course as she kept her energy hidden. It had taken her six
days to reach the borders of the western lands and now, after ten
days was she finally approaching Nishi and the Palace of the Moon.
As her eyes roamed the familiar structure a soft smile lit her lips
and she allowed her energy to explode outwards in a warning of
impending arrival.//\\

When she reached the gates of Nishi only an hour later demons and humans alike had swarmed to the city gates in order to steal a glance of the powerful miko that had shaped their everything. A woman that had sacrificed all that she could in order to bring peace to a war strewn land.
As she passed them, the people all bowed low to her in recognition of both her status and power. Energy encased her being the entire time, daring any brave enough to test her strength. When she made it to the doors of the palace a tall inu taiyoukai awaited her and graced her with a smile. “It has been a long time, imouto.”
“That it has, aniki,” she nearly whispered with a warm smile. “I trust that you’ve kept Dokkasou-sada and Kyo-Kami in one piece for me?”
A small widening of his eyes was the only thing that gave away what he had been feeling, though he did give a slight now in answer to question. “They are kept within your rooms along with your armor.”
A smile both innocent and dark appeared on her lips at his words. “Good.”
