STARTING OVER
Okey dokey, Reiya Moon will be in my fic so welcome her with open arms ^_^ OHHH guess what!!! I started a new fic…yes even after I asked AngelofBlades to write one (you should read it! Its called Dark Rebirth check it out!). I feel bad, but my guilt is explained in that story's notes so you can read them there. It is called `Elongated Death Sentence' it's a hp/inu crossover R rated im afraid. ^_^ but I did a pic for it! So you should check that out too!! I'd like to thank everyone who made suggestions for the story, you know who you are, I will try to use them. ^_^
CHAPTER 12
Kagome was brooding. It was a strange sight to behold. She was sitting on the windowsill in her room with one leg pulled up, her arm resting on it, with the other dangling over the edge of the sill. The look on her face was the same as always, bored, but her eyes where practically on fire. Her energy was crackling around the room, making popping sounds every now and then. But that wasn't what made her teammates worry, it was the storm that had appeared in the room. Sota watched her from the safety of the doorway. The storm was raging, belying her inner torment. Sota jumped back and shielded his eyes as a red bolt of lightning crashed where he had just been. Shippou appeared at his side in an instant, helping him up.
"What happened?"
Sota sighed and closed his eyes, knowing that the SD's where acidly listening for his answer.
"She's angry."
Shippou snorted and glared down at his uncle.
"We know that. Why did she attack you?'
Sota walked into the kitchen where there was the semblance of clam.
"She is deep in thought, while angry. Her power needs to be watched constantly, and right now she isn't."
Shippou `oh'ed and nodded while the SD's just stared at Kagome's, now closed, bedroom door.
"Can she hurt herself like this?" Kurama asked with worry blatantly obvious in his voice.
This time it was Sota who snorted.
"Its her energy, of course not."
Shippou nodded sagely and added in an amused voice.
"Who would get injured by their own energy?"
The SD's blushed lightly, having had their own attacks turned on them at least once.
"How can we reach her?" Hiei asked, his tone carefully emotionless.
Sota shrugged.
"Just call her name, its not like she is in a trance or anything."
Yuske closed his eyes and nodded.
"Ok then, I need to talk to her, so I'll be the one to `wake her up'."
Yuske opened his eyes, revealing determined brown orbs, and walked to her door. He knocked loudly then opened it slowly.
"Kagome-sama? I need to ask you a question, are you busy?"
The second Yuske set foot in the room the storm disappeared, like a movie being shut off and the picture just stops being there, no residual wind or raindrops. Kagome opened her eyes and looked at him.
"I'm not busy, come in."
Yuske nodded and sat himself against the wall, next to her leg.
"What do you think about the match tomorrow? It is against one of my arch enemies, think we can win?"
Kagome looked out the window and answered without looking back at him.
"Yes, you're all stronger than you think. There will only be one problem that I can foresee."
Yuske was about to ask what that was when Hiei appeared at the doorway, glaring at him. It was obvious that he wanted to speak with Kagome, alone. Yuske sighed and politely excused himself, bowing to Kagome before he exited the room. Hiei shut the door behind him and took a tentative step towards her, only to be stopped by her words.
"I saw your dream."
Hiei was stunned. The only thing that managed to filter through the haze was one question. Does she feel the same?
Kagome glanced at Hiei out of the corner of her eye. He was staring at her, wide eyed. The emotion on his unguarded features was fear. Fear of rejection, she assumed.
"And?"
His voice was as unguarded as his face, sounding hopeful, curious, and filled with fear. Kagome closed her eyes and brought her other knee to her chest, and wrapped her arms around them in an uncharacteristic show of vulnerability.
"Do you love me?"
Her voice kept the emotionless façade, and made him flinch.
Do I? Do I love this woman? Hiei asked himself as she watched her turn her head slightly to catch the last rays of the sun. The answer was a resounding yes.
"Yes, do you have any feelings for me?"
Kagome brought her gaze from the setting sun to the demon she had come to care for. He was standing there looking like a beaten puppy, totally vulnerable and in dire need of affection.
"I do, but emotions are dangerous, as you well know. I don't think I could handle it if I let my feelings for you blossom, then have you ripped from me."
Hiei was at a loss. She cared for him! He strictly reminded himself that he needed to stay on task. She said she was afraid of him leaving her. Hiei walked up to her and sat down beside her on the windowsill.
"I wont leave you."
He gathered her in his arms and whispered in her ear.
"I will never leave you koi."
Kagome closed her eyes and snuggled into his chest. Get a hold of yourself! You are acting like a schoolgirl again! Remember where you are, a tournament where people kill each other! Don't take that chance till its over! Don't-
All of Kagome's thoughts disappeared when she felt his scorching lips brush hers in a chaste kiss. Kagome instinctively leaned in and deepened the kiss. She ran her tongue over his bottom lip, asking for entrance, which he happily gave. Kagome explored every tiny crevice of his mouth with her tongue, as he did her. Soon their tongues met and battled for supremacy, neither winning nor giving up.
Kagome came back to reality when she felt his hand slide from her waist to the curve of her hip. She pulled back and jumped off of his lap.
"No! I wont do this! We are in a tournament where people kill each other! I don't want to lose you as soon as I get you."
Hiei's eyes filled with an indefinable emotion and he left the sill.
"I promise I wont leave you koi."
He tried to touch her arm but she jumped back like he burned her. Her eyes where closed but he could smell the salt of her unshed tears. She shook her head again.
"Just…please just leave."
Hiei felt his heart break. He closed his eyes tightly, just as she had, in an attempt to stave off the tears. He turned and went to the windowsill they had recently vacated, and opened the window. Heie spoke without looking at her.
"So be it, I'll see you at the match tomorrow Kagome-san."
She flinched at the honorific, and watched as he jumped from her window in a black blur. As soon as he left her sight she sunk to her knees and wept silently.

Kagome stayed up all night, silently lamenting for her lost love. Hiei spent the night much the same way. When morning finally cam Hiei and the other members of team Urameshi met up at the new arena.
There was an uncomfortable silence that hung in the air, which was strange because usually the silence was comfortable. The quiet was finally broken when Koto started officiating.
"Ok all you demon fans! The semi-finals are here! First match of the semi-finals, team Toguro vs. team Urameshi! Will the first fighters please step into the ring?"
A mental command from Kagome sent Shippou into the ring. He was met by a tall, pink haired kitsune. Her pink hair ended in black swirls around her knees. Her fox ears where black, a sharp contrast of the pink surrounding them. She had a black star on her head, showing that she was some sort of nobility. She also had an unusually long tail wrapped firmly around her waist; it had the same coloring as her hair, pink with a black tip. She had on loose fitting black hakamas and a tight red vest. She had on no armor, but carried a sword that gave of strange vibes at her hip. Shippou could tell she was an elemental kitsune by the way she carried herself in the man-made arena, and because it was easy to spot one of his own.
They stopped in front of Koto and waited for the match to start.
"First match Reiya vs. Aoi. FIGHT!"
Reiya took up an offensive pose and attacked with her claws. Shippou dodged easily, and kicked her in the stomach sending her sprawling.
Reiya jumped to her feet and wiped the blood from her lips.
"I wont lose!"
With that she jumped into the air. Wind swirled around her, blocking her from Shippou's view. Once the winds dissipated she landed lightly on her paws. Shippou stared open mouthed at the beauty before him.
Her coat was shining with power. It was a beautiful shade of pink, a little darker than her hair had been, with muzzle, ears, paws and the tip of her tail a delicious black. He could see her powerful muscles and sinew shift when she took an easy step towards him.
Shippou came out of his lust-induced stupor when the object of his affection charged at him with deadly accuracy. He reacted quickly, but not quick enough to escape injury. He looked down at his arm where a small gash had been placed by Reiya's jaws.
Shippou allowed a feral grin to slip past his mask. Koto saw this and took a step back.
"In an amazing show of speed and power Reiya managed to hit the elusive Aoi!"
Shippou jumped into the air, much as Reiya had moments before, and transformed into his fox form. He was larger than Reiya, who had been about the size of a small horse. He was about the size of a small car. His fur was a tawny bronze, with blue flames licking at his paws, showing that he had supreme control over the winds.
Shippou paused a moment and took in everything around him with is heightened senses. Koto was aroused, the crowd sans the kitsunes was afraid, and Reiya was intimidated. Shippou smirked mentally at this and attacked her.
He grabbed her neck in his jaws and held her against the ring. Reiya struggled violently against him. Koto watched, slack jawed, for a moment until Shippou's growl made her start the count. Once she was done Shippou jumped into the air and retuned to his humanoid form. Shippou walked silently out of the stage but stopped when he picked up something with his still sensitive hearing. Shippou turned and looked over his shoulder. She was crying. Reiya had returned to her humanoid form and was still crumpled on the ring floor. Shippou mentally asked Kagome if he could comfort her.
Fine, but be prepared for anything.
Shippou smiled at his mother and returned to Reiya's side. He reached out a tentative hand and placed it on her quaking shoulder. She jumped and, out of habit, lashed out. Shippou dodged easily, but decided to let her scratch him. She looked horrified at what she had done. Reiya raised her hand up and wiped away the small trickle of blood that appeared from the cut on his cheek.
"Gomen, force of habit."
Shippou nodded and held out a hand for her. She took it without hesitating. Once she was standing the wiped away her tears and brushed dust off of her clothes. Reiya turned to him after she was done and held out her small delicate hand.
"Reiya Moon."
Shippou took her hand in his own and answered in a deep sensual voice.
"I cant tell you my name, public place and what-not."
Reiya blushed, suddenly remembering that she was surrounded by strange demons. Shippou smiled and teleported back to his team.
Sota had a smirk on his face, the SD's where looking at him like he was crazy, and Kagome was as stoic as ever.
You like her?
Shippou was surprise to hear Kagome voice in his head.
'I do'
Is it lust, or something more?
'I'm not sure yet.'
Kagome ended their conversation and instructed Hiei to fight next.
Hiei winced at her mental touch, then jumped into the ring; startling Koto. The demon from the Toguro team was a tall female. She had short spiky blonde hair with red bolts running from her forehead to the tips. She wore a skintight leather jumpsuit that had lightning dancing over its surface as a design. She had no weapons or armor. As she was walking towards Hiei she raised her arm heavenward and pointed her finger like Yuske does when he uses the spirit gun. She brought her arm down and pointed at Hiei mouthing something.
Kagome watched as the woman shot a bright light at Hiei before the match even started. An anguished scream ripped from her throat as he fell.
"HIEI!"
