CHAPTER 13
Hiei felt like he was going in slow motion. He saw the lightning bolt coming, but he could do nothing to evade or defend. He assumed what the demon had been mouthing was a subduing spell. Hiei managed to turn his head and look at Kagome as she raced towards him. Even she seemed to be going in slow motion. Her face was slowly slipping from the stoic mask, showing more fear every passing second.
His attention was drawn back towards himself when he felt a large shock run trough his body. The shock intensified into a blinding pain, then everything was back to normal; he was flying trough the air at a normal pace, no longer in slow-mo. Kagome raced and somehow managed to catch him before he hit the concrete wall. How was he thrown so far? That was a weak attack.
Hiei was pondering this when he felt drops of liquid fall on his face. He looked away from the wall, into Kagome's tear stained face.
"What's wrong koi?"
Hiei was surprised by his own voice. It was quiet and hoarse, totally unlike his normal voice. Kagome just shook her head, sending more silent tears raining on his face. Hiei was truly confuse now, why was she crying? Kagome never showed emotion, let alone cry in public. Someone must be hurting her; he would have to kill them. Hiei tried to rise and found that all of his limbs where numb. He cocked an eyebrow at the strangeness of it all. What was going on? Maybe it was that subduing spell.
Several more drops of shining clear liquid spilled onto his face, reminding him that Kagome was above him. He tried to reach up and brush her tears away only to find that he could barely lift his arm. He frowned and put some effort behind it, managing to raise his hand about a foot off of the ground then it fell limply, landing on his chest with a wet splat. Hiei was so surprised by the sound he must have made a noise in the back of his throat, because Kagome opened her eyes and saw where his hand was. Once she did her face paled even more than it already was and started shaking with silent sobs again, much to Hiei's dismay. He frowned in concentration and raised his hand up, taking a good look at its slick, blood stained surface. Hiei's eyes widened a bit and he tried to sit up, causing white-hot tremors of pain to shoot from the center of his chest out. Through his pain he heard Kagome mumble something. He shook off the fog that had started surrounding his vision, that he assumed was from the pain, and listened to what she was saying.
"…No, you can't die! Please don't leave me! Don't go, please don't go koi…"
She repeated it over and over, slowly rocking back and forth. Hiei's eyes widened in realization; the numbness, the inability to move, the pain, the fog, it all added up to his untimely death. Hiei couldn't hold back the tears that spilled from his ruby orbs. He had finally found true love, and he was dieing. Hiei let out a choked sob as he felt his heart slow its already sluggish pace.
"K-koi, I'm sorry I c-can't-" Hiei had to stop because he started coughing up blood. "I can't warm the i-ice around your h-heart as y-y-you ha-ave m…m" Hiei smiled weakly in apology, then closed his eyes and surrendered to the inviting darkness that offered him peace.
Kagome let out a strangled sob as Hiei's last breath passed over his lips. She tightly closed her eyes and kisses his bloody lips, hoping it was all a dream and that he would awaken with her kiss like the prince charming she thought him to be. He did nothing. Kagome fisted her hands into his blood soaked haori and summoned up all of her power. As the wind whipped around the closed dome Kagome schooled her face back into its usual stoic expression. She gently scrubbed the tear tracks from her face and stood slowly, her black haori and hakamas wet with Hiei's spilt blood. Her eyes glowed blue, and her body radiated power. She turned her eyes to the smirking demon that had dealt the deathblow.
Koto took a step back, then turned on the demon.
"I'm all for bloody deaths but that was illegal, even by this tournament's standards! You lose this fight, Nijuumado! The winner is-"
Koto was cut off by Kagome's icy voice.
"You will die slowly for what you did."
She was glaring at the demon, who took a step back. Kagome let the unnatural wind gently play with her hair while whipping at everyone else. She took a step forward and the ground shook, causing small chunks of the ceiling to fall on sections of the audience. Suddenly all wind stopped and the ground stopped moving. There was a deep rumble and everyone sans Kagome looked up and gasped. Swirling around the ceiling was a dark storm cloud. Nijuumado looked at the storm and smiled cruelly.
"Baka megami, I am a lightning yoso. You just gave me more ammunition."
Kagome's voice was quiet and deadly when she answered.
"Just try using it, yoso. Do you honestly think you are stronger than a megami?"
Nijuumado just smirked again, then raised her hand in the air like she had before, silently chanting. The smile Kagome showed wasn't even fit for Naraku it was so malicious. As she waited she gathered more power, she was at about forty percent and only a select few could sense how powerful she was, the others simply thought she was off the charts. She watched the involuntary shiver run down Nijuumado's spine as she reached the halfway mark. She smiled again and spoke in a voice filled with false cheer.
"Well? I thought you said I gave you ammunition, why aren't you shooting?"
She took a step back, then shot random bolts of lightning, trying to scare Kagome into movement. Kagome simply looked her in the eye and smiled malevolently.
"Is your aim really that bad? You must have hit Hiei by MISTAKE!"
The arena shook again, feeling the tremor that had gone through Kagome when she screamed. It hurt her to say his name and was taking most of her concentration to keep her voice steady for her derision. Kagome mentally cheered herself for her self-control. If it had been before, like when it was just Shippou, Sota, and herself, she would have killed every demon here, but she had control. She could handle the power coursing though her veins, screaming at her to unleash one big purification wave and kill them all. Every ounce of Kagome's control flew to the four winds when she heard what Nijuumado said.
"I could have hit that baka in my sleep. He was a pathetic fighter and a pathetic excuse for a demon. I did everyone here a favor by killing the little shit."
Kagome snarled and summoned the rest of her power, her black and red aura swirling madly, showing one and all just how pissed she was. Koto yelped and wisely started running. Most of the fans did the same, a few stayed to watch the carnage, not wanting to miss an enraged goddess.
Shippou tugged on Reiya's sleeve and spoke in a voice that belied his clam appearance.
"Lets move! She is pissed and she wont stop till everyone from that team is dead, evil or not."
Reiya nodded and tried to run over to her teammates. Shippou grabbed her shoulder and tugged.
"What are you doing?!"
She shrugged of his hand and answered.

"I wont leave my friend!"
Shippou sighed and said something to Sota. He nodded and instructed the two remaining spirit detectives to grab Hiei's body and follow him. As he was leaving Sota called over his shoulder.
"We'll meet at the room!"
Shippou nodded and started sprinting towards team Toguro. Reiya watched this, bemused, until he turned around and gave her annoyed glare.
"Are we getting your friend or not?"
She nodded dumbly and raced after him.
Kagome watched this with her minds eye as she advanced on the cowering yoso. She let go of her last bit of control when Shippou left with two female demons tailing him closely. As she let go a huge red lightening bolt ran from her to the black storm clouds, that where swirling but refused to create a twister. The red bolt weaved in and out of the dark banks. Soon a shape formed, it was that of a red and black dragon. (an- think dbz) Soon a monolithic head immerged. Kagome turned her head to the side and the dragon followed her movement exactly. She clenched her hand into a fist and the dragon mirrored it perfectly. It soon became obvious to those still present that the dragon was a manifestation of Kagome's energy. She smiled wickedly again and spoke, though no sound came from her throat the dragon's voice boomed, echoing around the entire island.
"You have angered a goddess, now you die."
With that the dragon expanded into a black void that enveloped the entire dome. There was complete silence out side of the void; everyone was waiting for something bad to happen to them. Suddenly an ear-piercing shriek shattered the false calm. As soon as the scream sounded the void disappeared. Koto's frightened voice came from over the mike system.
"Sorry about that folks, but it was like a nightmare in there, and I wasn't even in the black thing." Koto's shudder was heard over the system.
Some of the fans walked back in to see what damage had been done. The stadium was completely empty sans Kagome, Koto, and Nijuumado. The question that was on everyone's mind was `what happened to the 200 odd fans and the rest of team Toguro?' Koto called the clean up crew again and had them escort a quaking Nijuumado out of the ring. When the first demon touched her shoulder she screamed and shrank away, mumbling things like.
"Oh Kami-sama help me, please remove the darkness and these illusions that I can feel."
The fans watched Kagome for about ten minutes, then when it was obvious she wasn't moving everyone left. Koto soon followed them after a failed attempt at conversation with the still irate goddess. As night fell several hours later so did Kagome's knees. They struck the pavement and she wept silently for the loss of a friend, a lover, and the love she never had a chance to experience. As the sobs wracked her body she whispered two words that where taken by the unnatural wind that lingered around her trembling form.
"Hiei…koi."
