STARTING OVER
My goodness. Its been what? Three days and you are already yelling at me for a new chapter…jeeze. Anywho if I put you in the fanfic would you please tell me if I did good or not. Thank you. I don't own anything.
CHAPTER 15
Kagome felt her heart stop. His soul was missing. Who would dare take what was hers? Wait, what is mine…where did that come from. *Sigh* I might as well face the truth. I have "feelings" for Hiei. Damn, if it's hard to admit to myself how am I going to tell him…if I ever get the chance. DAMNIT! Whoever stole his soul is dead.
Kagome was brought from her thoughts when she saw Reiya move. She came and stood before her.
"Gomen nesai Megumi-sama. I tried."
She bowed low then went over to Shippou and quietly cried on his shoulder. His face softened and he patted her back gently. There was a movement at her side. Kagome turned her head slightly, looking at Kiama out of the corner of her eye.
"She is really upset about this. I've haven't seen her cry in a long time."
Kagome said nothing but gave the impression that she couldn't care less. Kiama's eyebrow twitched.
"You could at least say thank you for trying!"
Kagome just gave her a cold stare. Kiama glared one last time before turning on her heal and flirting with Kurama, who didn't seem to mind. She is a good match for him. Kagome thought absently.
Kurama was a cold calculating demon. He needed someone to balance his icy personality. Kagome shook her head. This didn't matter, what mattered was Hiei. Kagome's eyes narrowed reflexively when she thought of what she had to do to get it back. I have no choice. I will ascend…for him. Kagome psychically told Sota where she would be going then went to her room and locked the door.
As soon as she heard the door click she sunk to her knees once again and remembered when the offer to become a goddess was first presented.
~~~~~~~Flashback! ~~~~~~~~
Kagome smiled warmly at the Water Goddess Mizu, and the two boys Taro and Kiichi (Is that right? It's those boys from the episode where they go up against the false water god right after Sango joins. Please tell me if I'm wrong.)
"I'm sorry, but we still need to find jewel shards. So we can only stay for one night."
Inuyasha snorted and spoke up from behind her.
"Feh. Stupid bitch, I don't know why we are even staying tonight."
Kagome turned on him with the fires of hell burning in her eyes.
"Osuwari! My name is Kagome! And we are staying because its already late and they offered!"
Shippou, who was perched on her shoulder, spoke in an insolent voice.
"Jeese Inuyasha, you'd think that you would have learned by now that when Kagome says we are staying we are."
Inuyasha growled and launched himself at the kit, who was still on Kagome's shoulder. Shippou didn't move when he saw Inuyasha jump. He knew that the inu would be eating dirt long before he reached him.
"Osuwari! Inuyasha don't pick on Shippou."
Inuyasha growled from where he was plastered on the floor and waited for the kit to move from her side. The rest of the night was uneventful, sans a strange outburst when Miroku was talking with the Lord. The Lord seemed very angry about something, but Miroku was his usual calm self. Kagome shook her head and settled down with Shippou for the night.
****
Sometime during the night Kagome was awoken by someone blowing on her ear. She rolled over, mumbling `five more minutes' into her blanket. The blowing seemed to have a pattern that managed to make it through the thick fog of sleep that surrounded her brain.
"Awaken Shi no Megami."
Kagome's eyes snapped open when she registered the name. Goddess of Death. What did that mean? Who was calling her that? Kagome rose silently from her bed and crept out of the hut they had been given. She followed directions as the wind told her where to go. She ended up walking for over half the night, strangely she wasn't feeling tired at all. In fact, she wasn't feeling anything at all. What the? Is this a dream?
THAT IS CORRECT.
Kagome flinched when the voice boomed from the forest around her. She screwed her eyes shut and covered her ears.
"W-who are y-you?"
Her voice was trembling as much as her body. Kagome, inexplicably, felt angry that she was cowering. It felt like whatever was out there should be lying at her feet begging for its life. Kagome shook off the feeling, but stood nonetheless. She set her shoulders and called out in a voice that was braver than she felt.
"Tell me who you are."
The disembodied voice answered immediately, and when it wasn't defining her she could recognize it as Mizu's.
"I am the one who will show you how to get anything you desire."
Kagome's mind instantly flashed a picture of her in Inuyasha's arms. She closed her eyes and sighed wistfully.
"Nothing could get me what I desire, Mizu."
There was a slight gasp, then Mizu appeared before her with a surprised look on her face.
"How did you know it was me."
Their expressions switched, Kagome held one of surprise and Mizu had her eyes closed.
"Should I not be able to recognize your voice?"
Mizu's expression changed to one of puzzlement.
"No, you where not."
Kagome shrugged and walked over to a fallen tree. She sat down and patted the place beside her. Mizu smiled and took her place beside the young girl. Mizu's smile turned sad when she remembered what the young girl would have to go through to reach happiness. Kagome noticed the change immediately and gave her a questioning glance. In response Mizu turned to her and grabbed her hands.
Kagome was shocked by the warm gesture from the goddess. She was even more shocked by her words.
"I want you to ascend."
Kagome looked at her blankly.
"A-ascend?"
Mizu nodded and continued.
"I want you to ascend and become a goddess like me. It would greatly help your chances of beating the one called Naraku."
Kagome frowned. Would it help? She mentally sweatdropped, well duh. Of course it would help. If she was as strong as, or even stronger than, Inuyasha together they could beat Naraku. Kagome sighed, but there is always a catch.
"Well?"
Mizu looked at her quizzically.
"Well what?"
"Well what is the catch?"
Mizu adopted a confused air.
"Catch?"
Kagome grew angry, and her face showed it.
"Yes catch, on what condition do I get all of this incredible power?"
Mizu lowered her eyes and released Kagome's hands. She turned her head to the side and whispered.
"You lose your memories."
Kagome's mouth was a perfect `o'. This lasted for a few seconds then she exploded on the, now meek, goddess.
"WHAT! Why didn't you tell me?! Didn't you think it was worth mentioning? How am I supposed to fight Naraku if I can't remember him!?"
Mizu looked up and Kagome saw the tears that she valiantly tried to hold back. When she spoke her voice was choked and harsh from restrained sobs.
"You would remember the thing that is most important to you until you completed the mission you set yourself on."
Kagome's eyes where hard.
"And then?"
Mizu squeezed her eyes shut, forcing the unshed tears from the shelter of her pained eyes.
"Then you would become like me. An ethereal being without a past to speak of. All those you knew and loved will have forgotten your existence. And all those you meet think of you as a dream."
Kagome stared at her with wide eyes.
"But why would you choose such a life."
Mizu wiped her tears on the beautiful white silk of her kimono, and sighed.
"For love. My one true love was dieing, this was the only way to save him. I…I couldn't let him die. He had to live, even if I couldn't live with him."
Mizu was surprised by her own words. Why was she telling this to this girl? She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was an openness about her that made you want to tell her all your troubles and finally rid your shoulders of their weights. She shook her head lightly and continued with what she had been talking about before.
"This offer will never spoil, so in say…five hundred years, you could still take us up on the offer."
Kagome was shocked that Mizu knew she wasn't from this time, but she caught that one word that spiked her curiosity.
"What do you mean `us'?"
Mizu winced, but silently applauded Kagome for her observational skills.
"Myself and Eien, she is the one who will grant you your power."
Kagome's eyes widened more than they already where. Then she said something almost inaudibly.
"Eternity."
Mizu nodded and motioned to someone behind her. From the shadows emerged a small child. She had on a plain white yukata, with black `x' s splattered randomly on the back and sleeves. Her hair was a beautiful midnight black, and her pupil-less eyes where a bright red color.
"Konban wa megami-sama."
The girl bowed deeply then turned to Kagome.
"I am eager to meet you again. Until then Shi-chan."
The child bowed again, then faded into nothingness. Kagome stared at where she had been standing. Kagome finally brought her eyes from the ground to Mizu.
"She knew I would say no."
Mizu nodded silently, then spoke in a hushed whisper.
"All megami have the sight."
Kagome nodded, then something that had been bugging her came to the front of her mind.
"Mizu?"
"Hai?"
"Ano, why is it that you can remember?"
Mizu's eyes clouded over with grief and rage.
"I was betrayed."
That was all she said before she too faded into nothing.
"WAIT! How do I get in touch when I want to ascend?"
A black crystal appeared in her hand.
Break this over the kanji of death and eternity.
Kagome stared at the gem until she heard someone calling her. She closed her eyes and when she opened them she was looking into the face of Shippou.
"Shippou-chan?"
"Wake up Kagome, Inuyasha is yelling about leaving, and Miroku got yelled at by that lord again."
Kagome sighed and brought her hand up to rub the sleep from her eyes, only to find that her right hand was occupied by an obsidian jewel. She stared at it for a moment, then placed it gently in her bag.
Would I be able to do it for Inuyasha? Do I love him?
&&&&&&&&&END!! &&&&&&&
Kagome shook her head to dispel the memories. She slowly opened her eyes and was greeted by the sight of Eien sitting crossed-legged on her floor. Eien had her eyes closed, but she spoke as soon as Kagome's own where open.
"You have decided then?"
Kagome's eyes hardened.
"I have."
"And your decision?"
"You know my decision."
Eien opened her eyes and Kagome was mildly surprised that they where shining with unshed tears.
"So you will give up your life for this demon. So be it."
I don't know how I feel about this chapter…but it'll have to do because Courtney is pressuring me to update. So you can thank her, I wasn't going to post this for like two more days…so ya…please review. Here's another one of shorty's poems.
You are there when I'm sad,
And even when I'm mad.
You are there to laugh with and even to cry with,
You are there to talk to on the phone when I'm all alone.
I know you will be there through the good times and bad,
So come with me take my hand,
And we can begin this friendship,
And make it last till the very end,
Because I know you will always be my best friend!
