Getting to the Gathering
***Kagome's shrine***
Our group of fighters ran towered Kagome's well. When they got there Kagome pulled out her shards of the Shikon Jewel.
“I don't have enough jewel's for everyone to get one, so we are going to go in pairs.”
She took out the jewel shards, “Hiei and Sango, Kohoku and Yusuke, Yukina and Kuwabara, Genkai and Kikyo (because Genkai didn't trust her so she wanted to keep watch on her.) Miroku and Botan, and last; Kurama and me.”
After she gave them the jewel shards she said: “These are your partners, whatever happens stay with your partner. I don't know what's going to happen but we will try to stay as a group, if that doesn't work though. Just stay with your partner.”
Everyone nodded and the first group jumped in.
***The Feudal Era***
Hiei and Sango arrived at the bottom of the well first; Hiei picked up Sango and jumped out of the well.
As soon as Hiei touched the floor he dropped Sango, “Ow, What was that for midget?” She said in an extremely annoyed voice.
Hiei then began to shake and change. In his place was a demon with green skin and eyes all over him, he looked more sinister and his hair parted and looked like horns. His eye's glowed a very dark shade of red.
“Hiei, what are you doing?” Sango looked up at him in shock.
Hiei just looked off towered the woods and he took off. Sango tried to follow him but he was way too fast.
Sango was extremely freaked out, she wanted to tell the others and ask what had just happened. She jumped into the well but realized when she hit the bottom that Hiei had their shard.
Sango quickly got out of the well, as soon as she did Kohoku and Yusuke jumped out.
“You didn't need to give me a death grip kid.” Yusuke said annoyed.
Sango was panicking. “Guy's Hiei's turned into a monster!!! He just ran away without even a word.”
Just then Yukina and Kuwabara came in.
“I hope that wasn't too scary a jump for you my love!” Kuwabara said happily to Yukina.
Yukina just stared blankly at him and turned away.
“Come on I'm sorry Yukina…Wait, What did I do?”
“Someone do something!!!” Sango said. She knew something was really wrong, she had never seen Hiei's demon side before; she didn't even know what that was.
Genkai and Kikyo came out without a word to each other.
“I tell you Hiei's been changed, he isn't here.” No one seemed to be listening to Sango.
Next Miroku and Botan came out, “Okay you can put me down now and STOP STROKING MY BUTT!!!” Botan yelled from inside the well.
“Listen to me!!! Hiei isn't right!!!” Sango screamed.
“Well I could have told you that.” Miroku said with a grin on his face.
“Hey guys? Where's Yukina?” asked Kuwabara confused.
“She probably just wanted to get away from you carrot-top.” Laughed Yusuke.
“That's not funny Urameshi,” Kuwabara began to rant.
Sango then suddenly figured it out… “Somebody give me your jewel shard, we have to stop Kurama.” She was about to get Yusuke's when the well was activated once again and Kagome jumped out with Kurama.
“Hold on to Kurama!!!” Sango yelled to whoever would listen…but it was too late.
As soon as Kurama landed he seemed to get dizzy. Then suddenly his long red hair turned to white, his cloths changed. His emerald eyes turned to gold. Yoko Kurama was standing in front of them.
“Kurama why are you becoming Yoko?” Kagome said with fear in her voice.
Kurama didn't answer, he just ran into the woods at his top speed.
They tried to follow him but it was no use, they didn't know where he went.
“What happened to him?” Kagome said with fear plastered on his face, “I thought we killed Crece.”
“Its not Crece.” Sango said annoyed. “I tried to tell you but you wouldn't listen to me.” Sango glared at them. “Hiei came out of the well and turned green, he also had eye's all over him then he ran into the woods. I don't know what made him look like that but it was weird.”
“That's his demon form.” Yusuke said bitterly, he remembered fighting Hiei when he first met him.
“Then Kurama came out and turned into his demon form too. He ran in the same direction that Hiei ran, do you know what that means?” Sango asked no one in particular.
“It means that when demons come to this side of the well the calling for that gathering thing became too strong so they have to follow it.” Kagome said sadly.
“Where's my beautiful Yukina?” Kuwabara said sadly.
Sango looked at him, “Yukina is a demon Kuwabara, she was probably summoned just like the others.”
Kuwabara looked like his heart had been torn out, “Then we have to find her, what do they do at gatherings?”
“We don't know! The only ones that even knew about the gatherings were Hiei and Kurama. They can't help us now, there gone.” Miroku said grimly.
Everyone thought in silence for a second.
“How are we going to find them?” Kagome asked sadly.
“They have the jewel shards right? Can't you just sense them?” Asked Yusuke.
“They are too far away, I can't sense them.” Kagome said sadly.
“We can't find them with smell, that's what InuYasha does. We can't track them using a jagon, we can't use any of my spirit gadgets because I broke them when I was angry at Koenma.” Yusuke started,
“You WHAT???” Botan looked traumatized.
“I don't know how we can find them, they could be anywhere.” Yusuke finished in despair.
“Wait you mean you broke them?” Botan repeated.
“We find them the old fashioned way then, we look.” Sango said determined as she picked up her Hiraikotsu and started off into the woods.
The others really didn't have much of a choice so they followed her.
As they were walking Miroku looked at Botan who was floating on her ore. “What about you, aren't you a demon?”
Botan just looked at him with loathing, “I'm the grim reaper, I work in spirit world, I am no demon.”
They walked in silence for hours and hours until the sun went down, each with different thought's in their mind.
`Oh I miss my beautiful Yukina, I hope she is okay.' Just guess who thought that, it's a tricky one.
`Dumb little midget, we better get him back soon.' Again, guess.
`Kurama, I miss you. Shippo, I really hope your okay. Don't worry mommy will be there soon,' Okay this is getting too easy.
Eventually they decided it was time to take a break. It was getting dark and they really had no idea where they should go next. Kagome set to work starting a fire. Sango and Yusuke went out to get firewood, and the others set up camp. Even Kikyo and Kohoku helped put things up.
Because of the missing members they had enough beds for Genkai and Kikyo. Botan had brought her own, unfortunately we don't know where she hid it.
Kagome served some fish that Kuwabara and Kohoku caught and some roman noodles. It made her sad when there was no InuYasha trying to get the biggest bowl.
“Well what do you think happens at these gatherings?” Genkai asked as she ate some more of her fish.
“Maybe they swap collectible cards.” Yusuke hit Kuwabara in the head for that stupid answer.
“Maybe its nothing bad, what if they just get together for a big party or something.” The ever-optimistic Botan said.
“Yes but what if it is bad, demons aren't known for their kindness.” Kikyo interjected.
“I just hope they are all okay…you don't think they could be hurt…do you?” Kagome said in a panic.
“Maybe it's a trap, maybe its some crazy person is gathering the demons so they can slaughter them all.” The currently depressed Sango said.
Kagome had a look of terror on her face.
“I'm kidding Kagome, they wouldn't do that.” Sango said quickly to calm down Kagome.
“I'm sure they will be okay…” Miroku began.
“But what if their not. My kit is out there and I don't know what could happen to him.” Kagome said even more distressed.
“They wouldn't bring all the demons together just to kill them, that wouldn't make sense.” Kohoku voiced for the first time.
“I believe we should all go to sleep, it's going to be a very long day tomorrow.” Miroku said as he finished his meal.
Everyone agreed and they went to sleep.
Kagome stirred, she tossed back and forth in her sleep. She was caught in a nightmare, and she couldn't get out.
***Kagome's Dream***
There was a flash of silver, it hit against wood. “Let me out!” A strangely familiar voice growled.
“I'm sorry but I can't do that, it would ruin all our plans.” Kagome looked around for the source of the voice but all she could see was pitch black.
“Listen to reason, we don't want to be here.” Kagome's heart leapt, it was Kurama's voice.
The darkness seemed to fade a little. She could make out outlines of people.
“We are doing what is right, you just can't see that.” The unknown voice said again.
“I can see fine, you are trying to keep us here but we aren't going to cooperate.” The familiar voice growled again, Kagome realized it was Hiei.
“You controlled us to come here the least you could do is tell us why.” Kurama said angrily.
“All will be explained but please go back with the others.” The voice said again.
“Never.” Hiei growled.
Kagome watched as another figure went over to Hiei and swung a club. Kagome watched in horror as Hiei's figure collapsed onto the floor.
“Hiei? What did you?” Kurama's figure pulled out a rose whip and began to attack when the figure with the club swung and knocked him out too.
Kagome gasped, as Kurama crumbled to the floor.
The figures then got blurry and the dream faded away. As it did a message soared into her head; `Go to the Dark Mountains.' Then it too faded away.
***Back in Camp***
Kagome bolted strait up, she was covered in cold sweat... that was no dream.
She quickly turned to Sango, “Sango please wake up.” She shook Sango harshly.
“Sango wake up!!!” Then Sango's eyes fluttered open.
“What's wrong Kagome? Can't it wait till morning?” Sango began to close her eyes again.
“No it can't!!! Sango wake up!!!” Kagome's yelling not only woke up Sango, but also everyone in the camp.
“What's wrong Miss Kagome?” Kohoku said as he blinked his eyes.
“This better be pretty Da*n important to wake me up this early.” Yusuke said grumpily.
All eyes were on Kagome.
“Kurama and Hiei are in the Dark Mountains.” Kagome said still panting hard from the dream.
“How do you know?” Asked Genkai.
“I saw them in vision I had just now…” Kagome explained everything she saw in the vision.
“Are you sure it wasn't just a dream?” Miroku asked. “After all you have been really stressed lately. Maybe it was just your imagination?”
“It wasn't my imagination, I saw them.” Kagome said with anger.
Yusuke just sat there with an angry glare plastered on his face. “You know…I don't think I believe you.”
Kagome just stared at him. “What do you mean you don't?”
“I mean that you have been nothing but trouble. If it weren't for you we wouldn't be in this mess.” Yusuke glared at her.
“How did I cause this?” Kagome was just getting angry now.
“Not causing this but causing everything.” Yusuke had some things he had wanted to say to Kagome and he finally gave into saying them. “If you had just left Kurama alone that first night we wouldn't be looking for them…again.”
“If I hadn't of found him he would be dead!!!” Kagome nearly screamed.
“No he wouldn't, we were going to find him soon. He would have been great…He would have never met you, that would be a relief.” Yusuke said glaring at Kagome.
“Now I think your going too far.” Botan stepped in.
“No, I don't think I've gone far enough. If it weren't for her I would be on vacation with Keiko! My whole team wouldn't be injured and everything would be a lot easier.” It seemed like Yusuke had finally snapped with this impossible task ahead of them.
“You watch your mouth, if it weren't for us you team would probably be dead by now.” Sango said getting just as angry as Yusuke. “Kagome knows what she's talking about, if she says we should go to the Dark Mountains then we should go to the dark mountains.”
“No, I'm not going to blindly follow some two-faced, moron, school girl's dreams when my friends lives are on the line.” Yusuke said.
Sango replied to the insult by cracking her Hiraikotsu on Yusuke's head. Yusuke then punched her into a tree.
“Please guys!!! Don't fight!!! We have to stick together.” Kagome begged them.
“Yeah dim-whit, stop.” Genkai said angrily.
“We don't need them Kagome.” Sango said holding her stomach where Yusuke had punched her. “We were doing fine before we met them and we'll be fine without them.”
“Well we don't need you either. Screw you and Screw the mission.” Yusuke said as he turned to leave. “Were going to find Hiei, Kurama, and Yukina and were getting out of her.”
“Please stop Yusuke, I'm sorry, don't leave…we have to stay together.” Kagome said in desperation.
“Don't apologize to him Kagome, lets leave.” Sango then proceeded to go the other way.
The other members of the group just looked in shock and Sango and Yusuke walking in opposite directions.
“Are you coming?” Yusuke said angrily.
“Yusuke control yourself.” Genkai was cut off by the look Yusuke gave her.
“I'm not traveling with them, you're either with me…or with them.” Yusuke looked at them coldly.
Kuwabara then looked at Kagome, “I'm sorry, I have to go with Urameshi.” Then Kuwabara went over to Yusuke.
“I can't base where we go on a dream.” Genkai said and she also went over to Yusuke.
Botan just cried. She also went after Yusuke.
Miroku just stared at them, “Then farewell.” He went over to Sango.
Kohoku said nothing but walked over to his sister.
Kikyo looked between the two, “I believe that Kagome did have a sending. I'll go with my incarnation.” And she walked over to Kagome.
“Please, you don't have to leave. We can find them together.” Kagome cried out but Yusuke wouldn't listen.
Yusuke was in the lead as half their team went with him. Kuwabara and Botan turned around and waved but Yusuke and Genkai just marched forward.
Kagome watched them then brook down into tears. “What are we going to do now? How are we going to help the others? What if they get hurt?”
“Then it will serve them right.” Sango said angrily.
“I'm sure they will realize the error of their ways Kagome. Now lets go find our demon friends.” Miroku said helping Kagome up.
Kagome nodded tears still streaming down her face. `I didn't know that Yusuke felt like that. I wasn't trying to break his team up. Now are team is broken. What's going to happen? Please let us find the others and let everyone be okay!'
They packed up the camp then headed in the opposite direction that Yusuke's team went.
***With Yusuke's Group***
“Urameshi you overreacted!!! You didn't have to be so mean.” Kuwabara had been yelling at him for the last hour since they left the others.
“We should have stayed as one group. We could still go back.” Botan tried again.
“NO. I just want my team back together and leave this place for good. I never want to see any of them again.” Yusuke said as he pushed aside another tree branch. They were getting really deep into the forest.
“Fine dim-whit. Do you have any idea where we should go?” Genkai asked annoyed.
In all truth Yusuke had no idea where to go. He was really regretting not following Kagome but his anger and pride wouldn't let him turn back. He knew that was a bad idea but he didn't care, he told her off. The sooner he found his missing teammates the sooner he would be able to go home.
They were not on any trail or path; they were just walking in a direction. He looked around, all the woods looked the same, and he didn't have any idea where he was or where the demons were.
“Yeah old hag, we should go this way.” Yusuke took them into the dark, dark, woods.
`This was a very bad idea. Oh I hope the others are okay.' Botan thought when a picture of the monk Miroku flashed in her mind.
***With Kagome's Group***
Because they had traveled these lands so many times before they knew where the Dark Mountains were. They also knew they had a very long walk ahead of them, but they didn't really care.
“I hope Yusuke and the others are okay.” Kagome said again.
“Kagome stop worrying about them…I mean what's going to happen to them? All the demon's are at the gathering thing so they can't get really hurt.” Sango said happily.
“I guess your right.” Kagome said, then she froze. “Guy's something doesn't feel right.”
Right when Kagome said that a bunch of robbers came out from behind the trees and ambushed our fighters.
This group of humans managed to grab Kagome, Kohoku, Miroku, Sango and Kikyo all at the same time.
Sango threw a few of them off of her but they still managed to get her down.
Miroku attacked with his staff but right when he did it was knocked out of his hands and he was also taken out.
Kikyo pulled out her arrows but didn't have time to load one before she was tied up.
Kohoku started fighting hand-to-hand combat but it was no use, these thief's were good.
Kagome tried to fight back but before she knew it ropes were being tied tightly around her.
Their captives were wearing masks. The masks were all black with a red fire painted in the middle.
They were thrown in the middle of a circle of ten human thieves; all five of them were tied up tightly.
“What do you want?” Kagome said angrily.
“What else, your stuff.” The closest one to her said.
The head thief looked around and grabbed up Kagome's bag, “take this.” He threw it to another thief.
Kagome felt next to her, Sango was doing something with her hands but Kagome couldn't see what.
“Put the other hostage next to them.” The leader thief said.
Kagome couldn't see who the other prisoner was but it landed behind her with a small cry and a thump.
“Also take their weapon's.” But right when the thief was saying that Sango broke out of her bindings. She always keeps a dagger handy for just such emergencies.
“What the?” Sango went crazy with the dagger.
Sango cut loose Miroku, Kohoku, Kagome, and Kikyo. The other prisoner would have to wait. Now that they weren't surprised all of them made some very solid hits.
The ten thieves were no match for them. They dropped their things and ran away as fast as they possibly could.
“Well that was unpleasant.” Kagome said a little annoyed. “Good thing you were ready Sango.”
Sango nodded then looked over at the other prisoner, “Um, Kagome…I think you need to see who it is.”
Kagome looked and saw a little girl in a checkered yellow and white kimono. The little girl had a cute face and long black hair. “Rin?” Kagome breathed.
Little Rin, the girl who always followed Sesshoumaru around was bound tight and gagged.
Kohoku quickly ran over to Rin and cut her cords off, he remembered that she had stopped Sesshoumaru from killing him a long time ago; he still owed her for that.
“Thank you.” Rin said with a smile.
“Rin, what happened to you?” Kagome asked.
“Well Lord Sesshoumaru was walking then suddenly he stopped, he just ran away. Master Jaken followed him and I couldn't follow them, they were too fast. I was all alone and then these mean guys found me and tied me up. I was so scared.” Kagome was shocked; Rin seemed to finally get out of the habit of talking about herself in the third person.
“Where is mister InuYasha? And Shippo?” Asked Rin.
Kagome looked at how innocent Rin looked, “They did the same thing Sesshoumaru did.”
Rin nodded that she understood. Then she looked down and started to cry, “Rin misses her Lord Sesshoumaru.”
`I guess old habits die hard.' Kagome thought. She saw the poor girl sitting there. `Well we can't just leave her.'
“Rin, do you want to come with us?” As soon as Kagome said that, Rin through her arms around Kagome.
“Thank you so much, I don't want to be alone!!!” With that it was settled and Kagome and the others continued on there way. They were very close to the Dark Mountains.
***Yusuke's group***
To put it in simple terms…they were lost. Yusuke had no idea where they were. He looked around for some kind of sign. They walked deeper into the woods. Then Yusuke felt it, a feeling that they were close, he just knew that their friends were close.
Yusuke broke out into a run, he ran and the others barely could keep up. He looked up and saw very creepy and dark mountains.
He knew then that Kagome had been right all along…Oh well, he still got there.
But as he ran forward he suddenly ran into some water.
Kuwabara pulled him out of the water.
“What are you doing Urameshi? Look at it.” Kuwabara pointed at the water. It had lots of weird looking fish in it. The worst part about it was that it had a very strong current.
There was no way in the world that they could swim across. It wasn't possible.
Yusuke felt his heart sink, they were so close and they were stopped.
“Maybe we could go around?” Yusuke asked aloud.
Genkai answered this by pointing, the river went down further then they could see. It could take days to try and find a passage that might not even exist.
“Any suggestions?” Yusuke looked at everyone.
It had been a very long day, Yusuke was tired, and he sat down on a rock and watched the harsh current fly past him, `if only there was a way across.'
***Back with Kagome's Group***
Kagome had been carrying Rin piggy back for a long time. Rin was so exhausted that she fell asleep on Kagome's back.
They were getting closer, Kagome could feel it.
Kagome picked up speed, the mountains appeared before her. `Almost…Almost.' Kagome thought as she neared the first mountains.
She couldn't see anything but she felt like she was already with the others.
Sango was right behind her followed by the other three, they too sensed that they were really close.
Kagome ran hard and fast, then suddenly it was as if she hit an invisible brick wall.
The force at which she hit the invisible object pushed Kagome back.
Miroku came over and knocked on the wall, it was an invisible barrier, and a strong one. “I hate to say this Kagome but…I don't think we can get in.” Miroku said sadly.
“No, We've come all this way, a simple barrier wont stop us…we've broken many before.” Kagome set down Rin who curled up on the ground.
“I wont let this be the end…I'm getting though.” Kagome pulled out her bow and arrows.
Kagome charged one of the arrows with all the energy she could muster, she was confident this would shatter the barrier that separated her from her friends.
She let the arrow fly, it flew fast and sharp towered the barrier, when it hit…the arrow dissolved but the barrier was in tack.
Kagome stared in shock. “We have always gotten though barrier's before.” She said in shock.
“That was when we used InuYasha's Tetsusaiga.” Sango said depressed.
The group of fighters sat down in a sad slump and just stared at the barrier that separated them from their friends.
`After all that hard work we get stopped so far. It isn't fair, we are so close.' Sango said looking sadly at the barrier.
Suddenly a voice came out from a dark corner. “Only demons can get though the barrier.”
They looked around and couldn't find the source of the voice. “Who are you? What do you want?” Kagome said a little scared.
“I'm here to help you…I can get you through the barrier.” Then a figure emerged from the shadows with a sinister grin on his face.
