Through the Barrier

 

***On the other side of the barrier***

 

Sango and Kagome walked through the barrier, everything was a blur, they couldn't see anything but they still walked forward. When the blurriness cleared they were on the other side. They looked around with open eyes and mouths.

 

They seemed to be in some kind of huge cave. It was dark but you could still clearly see the other inhabitants. They were surrounded by thousands of demons, just demons everywhere you looked. The only strange thing was that none of the demon attacked them, or gave them a second look.

 

Kagome turned around to look outside but was astounded to see a closed cave behind her, the barrier was solid and like a cave wall. She felt where the barrier used to be, it was solid as a rock on the inside, they couldn't get through again even if they wanted to.

 

“We're trapped Kagome.” Sango said with a little fear in her voice.

 

“I know, but we can still look for the others.” Kagome then started walking into the cave full of demons.

 

Sango was getting anxious, she didn't like being surrounded by all these demons, and her instincts were kicking in.

 

Kagome looked over and saw the panic her friend had, “Don't worry Sango, they think we are demons.”

 

Sango nodded her head, she still didn't feel right, “Wait! Where is Kohoku?”

 

Kagome looked around, she didn't see Kohoku, Kikyo, Miroku, or Rin. “I don't know. They should have waited for us.”

 

“Why didn't they?” Sango was starting to panic a little; she searched the mob of demons for any trace of the others. The one thing she did notice was that all of the demons looked very tired, almost drained. Some demons looked like they had given up hope, some depressed. Other demons looked angry like they wanted to kill something, or someone. The only strange thing was that the demons were talking in whispers, as if afraid someone would hear them.

 

“Sango, what do you think is wrong with them?” Kagome asked looking at the tired and seemingly defenseless demons.

 

“I don't know, I've never seen such depression in demons.” Sango said looking over at their demonic company again.

 

“Do you see any of the others at all?” Kagome whispered to Sango.

 

“No.” Sango looked around at the cave; there were two metal doors at the back of the cave and a flat bolder that was probably used for a stage or platform. “This isn't right Kagome, there are way more demons then this.”

 

Kagome looked over and saw a mother Panda demon holding a little Panda and whispering to it. Kagome decided that there would be no harm in talking to her. “Excuse me, where are all the other demons?”

 

The mother just looked at her sadly, “You're new here, aren't you?”

 

Kagome nodded her head.

 

“They took the others away. We don't know how it happened. We were gathered here, then we were all trapped. No one could get away. When some of them fought back.” The mother looked down at her cub as if worrying that the same fate would happen to it.

 

“When they fought back they were taken back through that door. We have heard screams coming from it…No one ever comes out.”

 

Sango and Kagome looked at each other, “They must have fought.” Kagome said to Sango then they turned to go.

 

“Wait fox!” The panda looked sadly at Kagome, “There is a male fox that looks a little like you, he has a kit with a big bushy tail, is that who you are looking for?”

 

Kagome was shocked “Yes, Yes that's exactly who we are trying to find. Where did they go?”

 

“Your mate fought side by side with a fire demon and a dog demon, it was a very strange combination. As all fights are settled the sorcerers made them go, along with your kit to the back room. I am truly sorry for your loss, they got my husband too.” The Panda looked away and back at her little cub.

 

Kagome stared at her, she felt her knees buckle a little bit, `no this is crazy, they are all okay, they are fine.' Despite her self-assurance Kagome felt a lump in her throat.

 

Sango watched Kagome then back to the Panda mother, “How do we get to the back room?”

 

“I can't tell you anymore, I don't even know how. Surrounding the door is a powerful spell, any of the demons they have brought here can't get through.”

 

Sango and Kagome decided to leave the mother to her cub, they had asked her enough questions. “Come on Sango, we have to try to get through.” Kagome said pointing at the door.

 

“Yes, lets go.” Sango began to make her way across the room with Kagome following.

 

 

***With Kuwabara***

 

Kuwabara had been washed ashore and was currently sitting next to the water watching the fish go by.

 

Normally this would not have seemed odd except he didn't really seem to upset about the fact that he had almost drowned. You see, when Kuwabara fell into the water he hit his head really hard. He hit his head so hard that it knocked out a few of his memories. Well more then a few…it knocked out all of them. Kuwabara stared off into space with no concept of who he was, where he was, or where he was supposed to go…all he knew was that the fish were very shiny.

 

He sat there doing nothing for almost an hour before he decided he needed to do something.

 

Kuwabara got up…looked around and picked a direction. As he walked the first thing he came upon was a little bird sitting in a tree.

 

Kuwabara looked up at the bird, “Do I know you?” He asked the bird.

 

The little bird tilted its head sideways and tweeted.

 

“Nice to meet you…my name is.” Kuwabara paused. “Do you know my name?”

 

The bird gave a small tweet.

 

“Tweet?” Kuwabara thought about it. “Tweet, I like it…my name is tweet.”

 

The bird then flew away now having enough to do with the insane human who thinks he is a bird.

 

When the bird began to fly away Kuwabara chased after it, “Wait…are you my mother?”

 

The bird didn't answer and Kuwabara pouted, “You're a bad mommy, I'll go find a new one.” And with that he stuck his tongue out. Unfortunately for him, he had made the bird mad and the bird flew overhead and a white little bird poop landed on his tongue that was sticking out.

 

Kuwabara looked cross-eyed at his tongue, he paused for a few seconds then ran around in circles trying to spit the poop out while screaming at the same time; then he ran strait into a tree and fell back unconscious again.

 

 

***With Kagome and Sango***

 

Kagome and Sango walked through the hordes of trapped demons. They tried to make their way towered the door carefully so no one would try and stop them.

 

Unfortunately fate seemed determined not to let them get to that door without some problem coming up. As they got close a lizard demon came up to Sango and threw his arms around her.

 

“Beware…Beware…it's the end of the world.” The male lizard demon then looked at her and smiled a smile somewhat similar to Miroku's and said in a sly voice. “Excuse me beautiful.” He studied her…feminine parts closer then said “You know, since it's the end of the world, we should mate.” Then gave a really sleazy smile.

 

A few seconds later Sango and Kagome were once again trying to get to the door, a pile of beat up lizard demon lying on the floor behind them.

 

“It almost makes you miss the monk.” Sango said. “almost.”

 

They got closer to the door and no one seemed to be stopping them, they were so close…almost…almost.

 

“Sango?” A small voice said from behind them.

 

Sango didn't want to deal with another demon so she wheeled around with her fist ready to punch the next demon to mess with her.

 

The demon who Sango's punch was aimed at had dark red eyes and green hair.

 

“Yukina?” Sango said as her fist barely missed the young demon's skull.

 

Standing before them was Yukina. She had a look of sadness around her but she didn't look possessed or anything.

 

“What happened, why do you guys look like demons?” Yukina asked slowly as she stared at them.

 

“It's a long story and we can't go into it now…Yukina, what happened to the others?” Kagome asked looking strait into her dark eyes.

 

Yukina looked away sadly, “They took them away.” A tear fell from her eyes and crystallized into a jewel.

 

“Don't worry.” Kagome felt huge sympathy for the girl. “Just start from the beginning.”

 

Yukina stopped crying and took a deep breath. “When I jumped into the well with Kuwabara I felt a huge pulling sensation. When I landed the pull was so strong I had to follow it. I felt like I would do anything to get where it wanted me to go, so I followed it.” Yukina paused. “As soon as I got here the pull was gone, I didn't want to run anymore. I looked around and saw Hiei and InuYasha. They didn't look happy at all. I looked behind me and I was in this cave, there were demons everywhere banging on the walls trying to get out, sadly none of them could.”

 

Yukina took another pause and looked at the wall. Sango wanted to make her keep talking, they really needed to know what happened to the others.

 

“After a few minuets Kurama…well I guess he was Yoko, showed up.” She looked at the metal door. “Demons kept on appearing but no one could leave. Eventually they stopped trying to escape and no new demons were showing up, everyone had been gathered. Then four old demons walked on to that platform and began to talk. I didn't know who they were but everyone else seemed too. Some of the demons even bowed their heads in respect. They started to say something about a prophecy and the end of the world when three men dressed in robes holding staffs appeared on the platform, they were all sorcerers. They appeared in a flash of light and smoke.” Yukina took a small pause of breath then continued. “The sorcerers then grabbed the four old demons on the stage and disappeared. No one knew what was going on. Then one of the sorcerers, one that was dressed in a red robe appeared, he said in a creepy voice that they had killed the elder demons and were in control now. They said no one should try and stop them or they would be killed.”

 

Yukina stopped and another tear crystallized on her face.

 

“Please go on.” Kagome said softly.

 

Yukina sniffed. “Some demons didn't like that so they attacked him. Then the man in red lifted up a staff he was holding and blasted them with some kind of purifying energy, their bodies are over there.” Yukina pointed to a pile of bones in a corner. “Most of the demons didn't fight him after they saw his power, but our friends did. Hiei, InuYasha, Kurama, Shippo, and a few others I didn't recognize tried to stop him. They almost stopped him but the three other sorcerers appeared and helped him. Hiei, Kurama, InuYasha, Kirara, and Shippo somehow got unconscious, I didn't see how because I was thrown back in the fight. When I could see clearly I saw them being dragged through that door.” She pointed to the place where the two metal doors were located. “The man in the red robe looked at all of us and told us that if we fought we would end up with the same fate as them…torture and death.” Yukina started crying again, but she pulled herself together.

 

“There are two doors in the back of the cave, which one did they go through.” Sango asked staring at the two metal doors.

 

“The one on the left is the one they were taken through. The one on the right is where all the others go.” Yukina said.

 

“What do you mean, others?” Kagome asked.

 

“Demons will suddenly stop whatever they are doing and walk to the door on the right. No one knows why, whenever someone tries to go after them they are blocked. You have to be under mind control to enter the door on the right and no one but the sorcerers can enter the door on the left. No one has ever come out of either door and as you can see the demons are disappearing fast…I wish I knew what happened to all of them.” Yukina looked at the doors sadly.

 

Kagome and Sango felt like they had asked her enough questions. They looked at each other and gave a nod; they were going to try to get through the door on the left first. They wanted to find out what happened to their friends.

 

“Yukina, we are going to go after the others.” Kagome said looking at Yukina.

 

“You can try, I don't think you can.” Yukina said in a hopeless sounding voice.

 

Sango and Kagome turned away from Kagome and continued walking towered the door.

 

“Wait!” Yukina called after them, they paused and looked around. “If you do get through, don't let the men in robes see you or else they will kill you!”

 

They nodded at Yukina's warning and continued towered the door.

 

Sooner then they may have wished they were standing in front of the door on the left. Kagome's hand shook as she reached for the handle.

 

Both Kagome and Sango held their breath as they both pushed against the door.

 

Against all odds, as they pushed the door began to slowly open.

 

 

***With Yusuke***

 

Yusuke was pacing back and forth…he didn't know what to do next. He had just learned that half of his teammates had been turned into demons, Kuwabara was missing, and they were blocked by a barrier.

 

Botan hadn't stopped staring off into space, she couldn't help feeling like it was all her fault that Kuwabara was missing.

 

“Um…Yusuke?” Botan asked cautiously.

 

“What?” Yusuke said with an icy chill, clearly he wanted to blame Botan for everything.

 

“I just…I just wanted to know what we are doing next. We have been sitting here for a hour and I just was wondering…” Botan's voice and confidence faded as she looked into Yusuke's piercing eyes.

 

Yusuke paused, looked behind at the mountain and turned around so he wasn't facing Botan. “I don't know…”

 

Before Yusuke had time to react something heavy was on top of him and he smashed face first into the ground.

 

“Um, Genkai. Why are you sitting on Yusuke's head?” Botan asked as she watched Yusuke try in vain to get his teacher off of him.

 

“I was sick of hearing him complain.” She looked down at the struggling Yusuke, “Listen dimwit…Your friend is missing and you can't get through this barrier so the logical thing to do is go after the idiot.”

 

Yusuke responded with something that sounded like muffled cursing but luckily no one could hear it with his mouth currently filled with dirt.

 

“I'm going to let you up but only if you go after the idiot.” Genkai studied her student then suddenly Yusuke's body went limp.

 

“Oh my god…you killed Yusuke!!!” Botan yelled as she looked at the limp figure.

 

Genkai quickly got off with worry on her face, she wasn't trying to kill him.

 

The second Genkai got off the body suddenly wasn't limp anymore. Yusuke jumped up and tried to punch Genkai in the face…it didn't work. Genkai grabbed his hand while it was still three feet from her face.

 

Genkai's eyes grew red with furry. “Dimwit?” Genkai asked in too calm of a voice. Yusuke didn't like where this was going to go. “Did you just fake die so I would get off of you?”

 

Yusuke mumbled something to the effect of “old dumb fat hags.” And Genkai threw him into a tree.

 

Genkai looked at the tree, there was an imprint of Yusuke in it and he was lying unconscious under the tree. “When you wake up we are going to go look for Kuwabara.” Genkai said and she sat down and meditated peacefully.

 

`mental note…never call Genkai old, dumb, or fat.' Botan thought as she slowly scooted away from the meditating trainer.

 

 

***With Kagome and Sango***

 

The door slowly opened and revealed nothing but darkness. Not wanting to be discovered they quickly shut the door behind them. They were looking into a dark hallway, the only light came from a torch on the wall.

 

Kagome took one step and the sound of her footstep echoed throughout the long hall clearly and seemed to go on forever through the silent darkness.

 

Sango looked over with annoyance at Kagome and Kagome looked around and said, “I'm innocent, I didn't just make that noise that could get us caught…whistle, whistle, whistle.” Sango rolled her eyes and ignored the `innocent' miko.

 

Sango walked over on tip toe as quietly as she could and grabbed the torch off the wall.

 

They took one quick look around and began to walk down the dark passageway.

 

As they walked, the passage turned a corner, when they rounded it, they saw another passageway just as long. The only difference was that the walls were not solid, they were bars.

 

They seemed to be in some sort of prison, and they could hear chains rustling…the cells weren't empty.

 

Gathering their courage they began to go through this dungeon. They went past the first prison cell and it was empty…well at least they couldn't see anyone moving.

 

In the next cell there was an old demon sitting with chains locked around him. He looked up but looked away again sadly.

 

Kagome moved to help him but Sango grabbed her arm and shook her head, they were on a mission to find the others…they couldn't get sidetracked.

 

They walked a little ways passing quite a few pitiful and locked up demons. The light shined on a bolted door at the end of the passage. They didn't know exactly how they were going to get through it.

 

They were focused on the door as the came to the last two cells. As they passed the second to last cell a stone shot right past Sango's face, it was going so fast and so hard it cut a few strands of her hair. Suddenly another stone flew from the cell.

 

“You missed mutt.” Then another stone shot out again, this time it barely missed Kagome.

 

“Ha, like your any better.” A very familiar voice said.

 

Sango took off her Hiraikotsu and Flung it at the bars, unfortunately it just bounce off the bars and almost hit Kagome. Sango grabbed it and aimed again, this time she would try to go through the bars but a voice rang out from the jail cell that she knew all too well.

 

“Wait, stop. Sango? Is that you?” Kurama said clearly.

 

Sango stopped in her tracks, and held the torch up high so she could see all the occupants of the jail cell and they could see her.

 

She looked and saw Kurama, Hiei, Shippo, and Kirara in the cell. She held it up higher and saw in the next cell over there was Koga, InuYasha, and Sesshomaru.

 

“Kurama?” Kagome asked cautiously as she walked towered the cell door.

 

Everyone could clearly see everyone else because Sango put the torch into a holder over the jail cell.

 

“What happened to you two?” InuYasha asked as walked towered the cage door to get a better look.

 

Kagome and Sango looked at each other and suddenly remembered they looked like demons…dah.

 

“You are demons…” Hiei said darkly as he looked at Kagome. Then when he looked at Sango his eyes widened in shock then he got control of it and looked emotionless again.

 

`wow, the slayer looks…amazing…wait, wow.' He was truly lost for words or thoughts.

 

Sango didn't miss that `he thinks I'm sexy. Go Sango, go Sango.'

 

Kurama was quite taken with Kagome, she looked amazing…and he couldn't help it, `she choose a fox? Yes! She looks absolutely beautiful'

 

Kagome quickly went over to the prison and sat in front of Kurama, a tear twinkling in her eye. “I'm glad your okay.” She whispered.

 

Kurama smiled and kissed her on the lips through the bars, this resulted in a loud break out.

 

“Kagome…What are you doing? Who is this guy? Bud, get your hands off her or I will take them off myself.” Koga began to rage. “Kagome is MY woman…go find your own.”

 

Kurama broke his kiss with Kagome, turned around to look at Koga, his eyes changed from green to gold and some streaks of his hair turned white. “She's with ME now, and I suggest you leave her alone or I will personally see to it that even with your jewel shards you would never walk again.” Kagome blushed and Kurama turned back into himself and kissed her again.

 

Koga glared at him with intense hatred…but didn't say any more.

 

Sango walked over to the edge of the cell too. She stood at the edge and Hiei walked over to her. The only thing separating them was the bars.

 

The first thing she saw when she looked at him was he had dried blood running down the side of his face and a fairly large gash on his head. “Are you okay?” She asked with the first time softness in her voice when addressing Hiei.

 

“Hn, I'm fine.” He then looked at her, “How did you become a demon?”

 

Sango looked around and realized they were really not in a safe place, “I'll explain later.”

 

Hiei nodded but tons of questions swam in his head, “Did you choose your form?”

 

Sango looked down slightly, “Yes”

 

“Why did you pick dragon?” Hiei asked staring at her.

 

“I…I wanted to be able to beat you at your own game.” Sango said with a grin.

 

Hiei almost chuckled, “You could never beat me.”

 

They both stopped and stared, then at the same time they both went in for a kiss. They kissed through the bars and Sango's hand found Hiei's and she held it tight through another gap in the bar.

 

“Alright, Alright, that's enough….get a room.” InuYasha said in annoyance to both the couples.

 

Hiei growled at the one who dared disturb him and Kurama didn't look to pleased either.

 

Kagome looked around then suddenly got a surge of panic, “Where's Shippo?”

 

“I'm here mommy!!!!!” Came a little and very excited voice from inside the cell. Shippo then jumped on Kurama's head kissed Kagome on the cheek. She kissed him back, “I missed you my little kit.”

 

Shippo looked at her pointy ears, “Mommy…You're a fox.”

 

“I know sweetie.” Kagome said as she smiled.

 

“Does threat make you my real mommy?” Shippo asked in the cutest voice possible.

 

Kagome chuckled, “I thought I already was.”

 

Shippo smiled even bigger, “You are mommy…but still…YOU'RE A FOX!!!” Shippo said with joy.

 

“Kirara, I missed you.” Sango said as she pet the little fire cat through the bars.

 

Kagome looked around, “Have any of the others found you? Has Yusuke come here?”

 

“No, he hasn't come here, wasn't Yusuke with you?” Kurama asked looking carefully into Kagome's eyes.

 

Kagome looked away sadly, she didn't want to be the one to tell them that the group had split up.

 

Fortunately for her, Sango didn't mind stepping in. “That traitor abandoned us and didn't come with us to find you. He quit whatever `mission' you were on. It wouldn't surprise me if he was halfway back to his time by now.” Sango said with loathing in her voice.

 

“Yusuke quit? And the others went with him?” Kurama asked.

 

Kagome nodded her head sadly. “Have you seen any of the others?”

 

“I haven't seen anyone.” InuYasha said angrily.

 

“Little brother.” Sesshomaru cut in, “If you had half a brain you would remember that just a little bit ago a group of demons were escorted through the bolted door.”

 

“Who were the demons?” Sango asked quickly.

 

“There was a fire one….and a wind one.” InuYasha paused, “come to think of it the wind one was wearing the same robe Miroku does.”

 

“They have all been turned into demons. That was probably them. Good they are just through that door.” Kagome said optimistically.

 

The occupants of the two cages shuddered.

 

“What's wrong? What happens behind that door?” Sango asked.

 

“That's where they take you to be tortured.” Hiei said plainly.

 

“We have all see the horrors of behind that door.” Koga said as he shuddered.

 

Kagome looked panicked, “then we have to go get them.”

 

“That might not be the best plan, we should get out while we can” Koga said.

 

“No, I think we should get the others.” Shippo said bravely.

 

Hiei stepped in, “We can think about that later, get us out of here!” He glared at Sango and Kagome.

 

“Are there any barriers?” Asked Kagome.

 

“No, they have taken our weapons and we can't get out from the inside, you have to open it from the outside.”

 

Kagome and Sango looked at each other, how were they going to do this? They didn't have much time to think because suddenly they heard footsteps from the outside of the bolted door.

 

“What are we going to do?” Kagome panicked as the footsteps got closer.

 

Without giving it a second thought, Sango picked up her sword and slammed it as hard as she could against the lock. Nothing happened.

 

The footsteps stopped, whoever it was had reached the door, they began to unlock it.

 

Kagome then fired her strongest purifying energy possible at the lock. As the beam of energy began to burn through the lock, Sango took out her sword again and hit it.

 

Miraculously the lock shattered and fell to the floor, unfortunately that only opened the cage that Shippo, Kirara, Hiei, and Kurama was in. The others were still trapped.

 

The bolted door opened and a staff wielding person walked through ready to kill whoever was trying to escape.
