Chapter Two -- Learning About Your Life
For awhile the limo rolled along in silence. When she could no longer stand the silence, she leaned forward, putting her knee on the seat between Kenshin and Yusuke, to poke her head through the window into the front seat of the limo. "Tasuki?"
"Yes?" he replied, tilting his head back a little, but thankfully keeping his eyes on the road.
"Can you put on the radio?"
He nodded and reached for the switch on the dash. Soothing piano music began to issue from the many hidden speakers of the limo. Akari was about to sit back in her seat when Tasuki drove over a rather deep pothole in the road and she lost her balance with a yelp. She found herself in Kenshin's lap, with his arms around her, preventing her from falling any further. Color rose in her cheeks as she looked up into those violet eyes. He smiled and pulled her closer, one hand on her waist, the other supporting her back. "Are you alright?"
"Yes, thank you." Gods, if this was a dream it was the most real one she had ever had. Kenshin's lithe strong arms felt so real and so good. She kept staring into his eyes until she heard a snort from Yusuke. She couldn't help but smile and with great reluctance she left his embrace, returning to her seat. Akari hazarded a glance at Lantis and Hiei but both of the silent brooding men had their gazes fixed on Yusuke. She turned her own back out the tinited window, watching the landscape slide by. Her hand fell on the folder that Chichiri had given her. She picked it up, thinking that she could probably garner some more information about who she was in this world. Opening it she saw the top page was written in her own neat tiny script. Sticking a finger in her mouth and chewing on her nail, she read over the document.
Apparently she was meeting with three important business men in Japan. Akari bit back a cry as she read the names. Seto Kaiba...Nakago...Naraku. Her stomach did a backflip. So Seto was not that bad of a guy but Naraku? Nakago? She couldnt think of two worse villans. She covered her eyes with her hand, suddenly feeling that this trip was not going to end well. "Mistress?"
She looked up at the call from the previously silent Lantis, "Huh?"
"Are you feeling well?"
'No,' she thought, 'No not at all.' She, however did not voice this thought, instead she said, "Just a little hungry...Nuriko came in so quickly I didn't have time to finish my breakfast."
With an unchanged expression, Lantis reached across her, a gesture that once again brought the flame to her face as well as an urge to lean against the muscled chest, so close to her. 'Damn girl, get a hold of yourself...settle on one at least,' she scolded herself as he opened a previously unseen compartment, revealing a stash of breakfast and granola bars. She smiled up at him, "Happens a lot huh?"
"That it does," Kenshin replied, earning a chuckle from her.
Akari took on of the bars and ripped it open, munching on it as she continued to peruse the folder. One of the pages was a buy out proposal for Kaiba Corps. 'Oh...Seto's not gonna like that.' Again she had that sinking feeling that she should tell Tasuki to turn back around and take her back to the mansion. Then she looked at her guards. 'They won't let anything happen to me,' she thought, but she was starting to wish that she would go to sleep and wake up in the life she remembered.
