Chapter 6: Awkard Nights
“Why doesn't this Samael just take another Lilith carrier?” Botan asked the boy prince. Koenma turned to face her.
“Because once a Lilith carrier has a mate or spouse, the curse no longer applies to them. For years we have been trying to dwindle down the curse so that when a Lilith carrier marries and has a child, that the child has more demon in them then Lilith carrier. That would make it so that the child cannot be a Lilith carrier for Samael. `Sayuri' isn't a full demon. Far from it in fact, she is a mix of demons, which means that she'll have trouble controlling her powers, let alone identifying them.” Koenma rattled on.
“So she is the only one left?” Keiko asked Koenma.
“Yes. The chart King Enma has ends at her. Her parents were trying to protect; they obviously had some idea that because she couldn't marry, she was an easier target.” Koenma added.
“Why couldn't she marry?” Kuwabara asked. The room glared at him.
“She was a little kid stupid!” Yusuke hit Kuwabara over the head and the two started arguing.
“Yusuke, stop it. This is important. Sayuri needs us.” Keiko mentioned the girl's name and Yusuke stopped his foolish fighting, but not before giving Kuwabara a few new bruises.
“So, are we just supposed to sit and wait this out?” Yusuke asked Koenma, who looked up from eating more food.
“Well… I don't know.” Koenma shrugged.
“What do you MEAN you don't KNOW?!” Yusuke roared. Keiko tried to grab a hold of him, and hoped that he would grab a hold of his temper.
“Well, Sayuri is the only Lilith carrier left. And there is only one Samael left. The object of the game is..”
“THIS ISN'T A GAME! Don't you understand that?!” Yusuke yelled and stormed out, trying to collect himself.
“He's angry. Please try to understand. We've known Sayuri before this, especially Yusuke who is really attached to her. So, he isn't really used to taking this as a mission. It's more a personal cause.” Keiko sipped her tea and looked up at everyone. Koenma sighed and nodded.
“My point was that this is going to get dangerous. We don't know where Samael is now, and we don't know how to find him. But my bet is that he is coming for her. And there is really no way I can prepare you all or HER for this.” Koenma finished. Genkai looked at the boy prince and nodded.
“We want her here and will keep her under our watch. None of us want that girl to be hurt any longer.” Genkai spoke softly, regarding Sayuri highly. It was a shame that the girl never got a break.
“Koenma…” Botan tried to get the prince's attention.
“Yes?” Koenma replied.
“What happens to Samael if we save Sayuri? I mean… what happens if there is never again another Lilith carrier?” Botan asked. The room looked at the ferrywoman in shock.
“That's a good question. One of the many I don't have answers too.”
