Chapter 14: Light In The Night
She fell down into the hole, trapped and scared. She tried to claw her way out of it, pulling on everything against the walls. Her hands were sore and her body felt too heavy. A bright light shone from above and a ladder thrown down. Greedily she grabbed the ladder, climbing and gasping for fresh air instead of the stale air of the musky hole. Red eyes greeted her, a hand pulling her into a maze of secrets and lies. Her mind wandered and wandered. The strain on her seemed to weigh her down, pull her back.
“Keep going!” A voice yelled, compassion in it. She carried on, through a sea of deceit and into a desert of confusion. She felt her legs give out as she stood at the edge of oblivion, the black sky in front of her; stretching forever until it circled her. She knelt at the edge and a hand grabbed her shoulder. It was connected to a face with midnight blue eyes and a scar of desperation. It stung her hands; acid burning away her finger tips. Suddenly it faded into blood red eyes, and a hand that warmed the skin back up. She looked into those eyes, drank every emotion back up. The connection felt strong, the desire, even stronger.
“I'll find you.” And then the voice was gone.

The room settled and Hiei saw Samael holding Sayuri's body. The rocks had fallen around him, but none touched him. Kurama could sense the man's energy rise and drop with every breath he took. Finally he stood, placing Sayuri's body on the ground, delicate and marked with death. The man looked up at the boys, angry swelling in his eyes.
“You killed her.” The man said, looking at Yusuke, whose eyes were swollen from crying. Yusuke's breath became ragged and labored. He clutched his chest and fell to his knees. The man clutched the air and began to squeeze it slowly. Yusuke's hands grabbed his throat, choking and gagging for air. Kurama and Kuwabara attacked, trying to save Yusuke's life. The telekinetic powers seemed to for once be too much for the Tante. Samael let Yusuke drop to the floor, face turning blue.
“Kill me.” Hiei asked Samael. The man's face turned to the Jaganshi, whose life seemed worthless to live if Sayuri wasn't in it. Samael began to laugh, tears streaming down his face. His menacing look grew more fearful.
“You aren't worth my time. Do you have any idea what you just did? You killed the only thing that would save your stupid lives!” Samael screamed. His voice seemed maniac and unstable. Hiei rose to his feet, Kuwabara helped Yusuke up to his.
“You two would have killed everything. It's better that she died, you'll be forced to wander alone for ever.” Kurama remarked, pushing Samael farther and farther. Trying to get him to release his emotions upon the Tante. It was their only hope to catch him off guard.
“I waited YEARS for her! You stupid insolent beings! She was mine!” Samael glared at Hiei and then at Yusuke. Kurama could feel the change in the room as Samael grew more desperate. His plan had gone wrong and the man would be forced to change action. Samael's energy grew thick around him, flaring up in shades of red and black. His anger spurted and grew. Kurama saw his midnight blue eyes glow a deathly shade of red.
“Hiei, grab Sayuri. Get her body out of here!” Kurama called to the Jaganshi. Hiei's eyes closed and opened again, taking in the full situation. Sayuri was dead. Dead. D-E-A-D.
{Revenge.}
{HIEI!}
“Die now.” Hiei whispered as he ran full force towards Samael. Kurama watched as his friend pulled out his sword and disappeared. The tension in the room built, rocks kept falling. Samael's energy grew stronger as Kurama egged him on. Then the room was quite. And the sound of metal piercing skin could be heard. It sliced through flesh, a static sound like peeling burn plastic off of a fiery grill. Kurama watched as a few last rocks fell from the new sky-lighted ceiling. The moon light flooded in the room and through some of the dust, the Tante could make out Hiei, his sword, and two figures. An evil laughter filled the air; slowly and manically. It was piercing and full, laughing absurdly. Hiei's eyes traced the blood on the floor to his sword. Immediately he regretted his decision.
“Sa…Sayuri!” Yusuke screamed from a few yards away. The body of the girl lay limp, hung over the sword, bleeding. Hiei looked up at Samael and saw the disgusting look of satisfaction in the man's eyes. He pulled the girl closer to him, lifting her lifeless head up and smiling at her.
“You were good for something…” He laughed and cackled like a Hyena after a good meal. Yusuke fell to his knees, mouth open, eyes streaming.
“Who does that? Who…Who uses the body of someone they claim to love, to keep them from death?” Yusuke sputtered. Hiei went to move forward, but stopped.
“You win.” Hiei said. Both Yusuke and Samael turned their heads to the Jaganshi.
“Who the fuck says that?! You bastard! BASTARD! I'll KILL YOU!” Yusuke screamed as Kuwabara and Kurama did their best to restrain him. Samael laughed at all the pain and torture that filled the room. He could just soak himself in it all. Hiei walked away from the man and towards the detective; Samael was sure that the young boys would fight till one was dead. They would cause destruction without Samael ever having to lift a finger. He pulled his dead fiancé closer to him, hugging her from behind, upset that she had missed the Jaganshi give up.
“Your judgment has arrived Samael. Verdict is- Guilty.” Hiei turned to the grown man, holding the body of the girl he loved the most. Slowly he watched the man's face turn white. Samael's hands grabbed the sword and found Sayuri's hands pushing it through her body, and straight into his. Sayuri lifted her head up, her eyes a fiery magenta.
“Sayuri! No!” Yusuke screamed. The detective had been so inconsolable that he hadn't realized that Sayuri was still alive, just waiting for the right opportunity. Kuwabara ran to Sayuri to help her end Samael.
“Hurry… Finish it…” Sayuri gasped, blood dripping down the corner of her mouth. Kuwabara quickly rose his spirit sword and cut off Samael's head. Hiei quickly pulled his sword from Sayuri's body and pulled her close. Yusuke and Kurama ran over to where the two were slumped over.
“Why did you do that, Sayuri?” Yusuke begged. Sayuri tried to laugh, but ended up spitting up blood. Hiei brushed her dark hair out of her face. Yusuke sat by her side and grabbed her hand.
“Don't worry…Yusuke. I ended…it… on my… terms...” Sayuri mumbled. Her body was growing weaker due to the blood loss. Soon she would only be a body again, no heart beat; no words. Her time was coming closer. Hiei looked into her eyes and saw no hesitation or fear in death, just sadness. He wanted to hold her more, wanted to spend more time with her.
“I… I'm…” Hiei began, but Sayuri cut him off.
“Don't…Don't be sorry.” Sayuri smiled, blood drying along her chin. Hiei tried to rub it off, protecting her perfect face. She closed her eyes and thought about her life. The people in it. Yukio, what he did to her and how she over came it. She thought about Hiei, how he changed her. Samael, how he was caused so much pain, but deserved what he got in the end. Her parents. Sayuri smiled, she was going to see her parents.
“Sayuri! SAYURI!” Hiei yelled. Sayuri felt herself get sleepy… felt her body grow numb, her existence weaken and end.
“Good…night…” Sayuri breathed out and then her body stopped. The movements stopped. Her heart stopped beating, her chest didn't move up and down. She still smiled peacefully, thinking about how happy she was in spite of her bad times.
“Good night, Sayuri.” Hiei pulled her close, her body still slightly warm but fading. Yusuke could feel Kuwabara's hand grip his shoulder tight. He lost her again. The second time around; more final, more heart breaking, but more peaceful.
“Let's go home.” Kuwabara said softly. Kurama nodded, his green eyes filling up slowly. Hiei grabbed tightly onto Sayuri's body and lifted her up.
{Let's go home Sayuri.}
