Part Two

"Damn it, Kurama! Put me down!"

"As you wish," Kurama answered and veered off the path and into a small clearing near a small, fast flowing stream.

As he lay Hiei carefully down on the grass, Kurama wasn't surprised to see the angry look on his face. Not directed toward Kurama, but himself. He hated
weakness, and his situation was a harder blow to his pride than his body.

Since he was unable to turn his head away from him, Hiei closed his eyes so he would not see any pity the other man may have on his face. "Would you do me a
favor, Kurama," Hiei asked.

"No."

Hiei's eyes flew open wide, unable to believe that Kurama had just refused a request after refusing to leave him in the first place. He watched as Kurama sat beside him and took his fist from his pocket. With his thumb, he flicked something, lightning fast, into the ground in a circle around them. Hiei puzzled over what Kurama was doing until he noticed a movement out of the corner of his eye.

Tiny sprouts appeared and quickly grew larger and larger, forming a tangled web of vines and leaves. Kurama used his spirit energy to coax the seeds to mature at an amazing rate. Soon the two men were completely surrounded and hidden with the dense foliage.

"Nice camouflage," Hiei commented.

"Yes," Kurama agreed looking around their cozy hideout. It was just tall and long enough for him to sit or lay comfortably. "The flowing stream should conceal any slight sound we make and the flowers should hide our scent."

"Won't a big clump of flowers be a little conspicuous?"

"They shouldn't," Kurama said, fingering one of the white, spotted flowers that hung down near his face. "I stole the seeds from a bush just a little ways back."

"The greatest demon thief," Hiei sniffed, "stealing from flowers."

Kurama was about to respond when a faint rustling was heard from the path. They both held their breath, hoping their hiding place was secure.
