Chapter 3: Heavenly Cries

Genkai had awoken early, her mind restless from the night's activities. She lay awake in her bed, her thoughts forming unanswered questions. It really wasn't the first time that Koenma had sent the boys on a mission with loose ends. But this case felt different. The girl, the angel, was too easy to find. Koenma must have anticipated that she would have put up more of a fight.

“Damnit!” Genkai cursed the answers she didn't have in front of her. She threw her covers off of her bed and put on some slippers. Silently she crept through the halls until she stopped outside of Satu's bedroom. Inside she could sense two figures sitting, watching, waiting. “What are you two doing?” Genkai glared at Hiei and Kurama who were both sitting, waiting, staring. Hiei's eyes glared back into Genkai's with a protective stance. Kurama's cheeks blushed a slight shade of pink.

“Hnn.” Hiei got up and walked past the old woman. Genkai sighed and sat next to Kurama. She had never seen the boy so stuck on someone. In fact, for the longest time, she thought that maybe the kitsune would never find a partner- but an angel? It was basically against all law.

“This has to be wrong…” Kurama muttered. Genkai placed her hand on the youkai's shoulders. Kurama felt worse than he did before, when it was just him and Hiei sitting, watching.

“She'll have to go back eventually. It's not like she can stay here. It's already illegal that I'm letting her live here.” Genkai slumped farther into her chair, thinking about how Koenma would be steaming if he knew that the Tante was disobeying orders. She didn't much care for the toddler's angry tantrums, but she couldn't let the girl walk straight back into what ever she escaped from.

“I can't help it. It's just magnetic.” Kurama sighed, putting his face in his palms and running them through his hair. Genkai nodded, knowing that you can't help who makes your heart race.

“Oi, Kurama, this is where you are…” Yusuke poked his head into Satu's room and motioned for the old lady and the fox to step out of the girl's room for a bit. Kurama pulled himself away from Satu's bedside to hear what Yusuke had to say. The three of them walked to the living room where everyone was gathered and sat down amongst them.

“Echhhmmm…” Botan cleared her throat and began to speak. “So I went to see Koenma and I overheard him talking in a private meeting about Satu.” Botan chirped cheerfully. Hiei looked at the blue-haired girl and waited for her to continue on.

“And?” Genkai asked Botan. Botan picked up a big book from the floor and dropped it on the coffee table, which trembled under the weight of the ancient looking book. Yusuke and Kuwabara coughed from the dust that hit them right in the face.

“And I heard some names be dropped, so I decided to look them up! Soooooo…. I grabbed the big book of Angel History Koenma keeps locked up in his private room and I brought it here. Check it out…” Botan opened the dusty book and flipped through torn and battered pages, past the battles and peace makings, past the old sketchings that humans made of what they thought angels looked like. Finally Botan stopped on a page of an Angel named Ren. Yusuke looked at the ferry woman and sighed.

“What the hell does this have to do with anything?! It's ANOTHER angel! We've already got one!” Yusuke yelled at Botan. Hiei gave the two of them a death glare and Yusuke calmed down while Botan decided to move on.

“Ren, the oldest recorded Angel at 2,300 years old. Celestial Angel 1st class. She went through two sets of Elders and eventually escaped from the paradise to later be caught in the Makai. Eventually, it says, she went crazy and slaughtered all the Elders and Guardians, then herself. It is a known fact that she had a daughter named, get this, SATU.” Botan cheered herself for getting good information. Genkai grabbed the book and flipped through the pages until she hit a Celestial Tree.

“It says that Celestial Angels are not directly related to each other…” Genkai muttered.

“Well that's a lie, now isn't it?” A voice said from the door way. Standing before the Tante was a black haired woman dressed in a silky lilac kimono. Her hair hung behind her, wrapped in a gray fabric pony-tail. She looked at Kurama and eyed him. The Tante hadn't even sensed her come in.

“Hitomi?” Satu asked as she walked into the living room in her white sun dress. The girl named Hitomi smiled and Satu hugged her. Kurama stared at the girl and watched as everyone looked confused.

“Satu, who's your friend?” Genkai asked the girl. Satu smiled at Hitomi.

“She's Hitomi. She's one of the four Guardians. Do the elder's know you're here?” Satu aimed the last question at Hitomi who nodded yes. Hitomi patted Satu's hair and checked her over.

“Satu, why don't you go outside for a bit, I brought you a surprise, I need to have a discussion with these people.” Hitomi told the younger girl, who hurried outside to see her surprise. Hitomi sat down politely and introduced herself. “Hello, I'm sorry for the intrusion Master Genkai, I happened to have been sent by King Enma, as it seems that the Elders are still distrustful of the Prince's many soldiers.

“We aren't soldiers!” Kuwabara yelled. Hitomi glared at the boy and Kuwabara looked down and shut up.

“It's quite alright. Now please, continue what you were saying when you interrupted our conversation.” Genkai asked, displeased that the Angels were sending their own people out to find Satu. If that was the case, the Tante would be in even more trouble than Genkai had imagined.

“It seems you've found our History Book. Well, let me give you a little history of my own. That girl, Satu, is not an angel. By no means is she a true blooded angel. She is only HALF.” Hitomi spit out, not in disgust, but rather by annoyance. Kurama felt some what relieved, but waited for Hitomi to continue on.

“So, she's HALF an angel. What's the other half?” Yusuke asked the new girl. Hitomi looked at one of Koenma's detectives. She smirked.

“Demon.”
