AN: This chapter is going to be alot shorter than I first planned (at least by half) because of that virus in my computer. I forgot to make a back up and had to start this chapter from scratch. The original chapter, in my opinion, was 4x better than this one. Due to my stupidity and lack of patience I guess everyone will just have to make due with this. Sorry.

~~ Chapter 4: Death... Or Something Like It ~~


A young girl slept peacefully aginst a tree in a light slumber blissfully unaware of the world beyond the small clearing. She shifted aginst the uncomfortable surface on which she rested, taking a deep breath, her eyes fluttered open amazed by the beautful sight before her. Cool water cascaded down rocks into a small pool in front of her as songbirds sang sweet melodies high in the branches above, others soaring across the clear azure sky. Vivid colors of reds, blues, pinks, and purples circled around the girl in a carpet of flowers and a small fox sat contently looking at her.

"This is so beautiful".

"Yes it is".

"Huh? Who are you? You sound very familiar have we met before"?

"Yes and no".

"What do you mean"?

"We have spoken before... but you've never actually seen me".

"Oh. So you're the one I heard".

"Yes I am".

"What happened? Did you save me"?

"In a way I did, but it's not what you think".

"I don't understand am I dead"?

"Well this place is not a true death, but it's similar in some ways. Actually none of this is real. I guess you could say it's more of a personal escape I've created. I brought your mind here so you wouldn't have to deal with the testing. I can be rather painful. You should be safe for now. But..."

"What? What's happening to me"?

"I'm truely sorry but it would be best if I didn't tell you right now. Please try to understand and believe me when I say I only have your best intrest at heart".

"How do you know all of this? Who are you"?

"Well for your first question there is no straight answer I could give you. Not anything that would make much sense right now. I can tell you that there are many things I know and even more that I still do not. As for your second question It dosn't have an answer because I don't really have a name anymore".

"You don't have a name anymore. How is that possible"?

A sad look could be seen on her face for a moment only to be replaced with genuine smile "You're right Yukina it seems impossible but it's the truth".

"You know my name"?

"Yes. As I've said before I know alot of things. Like the fact you're friends are looking for you as we speek".

"They are? Oh no Botan. I forgot she was with me when those men came".

"Don't worry she isn't here".

"What a relief. I'm glad she's ok. When will I be able to leave"?

"At this point it's hard to say. You have sustained a considerable amount of damage. Nodoubt you will still need plenty of time to recover".

"So I have to stay"?

"No, no that's not what I'm saying. You're free to leave any time you wish. Just place your hand on the mirror above your head and you'll return to your body, but I would advise against returning before you've healed".

"Ok, but you don't have a name so what do I call you"?

"I don't have any preferances so whatever name you choose will be fine".

"Ummm I've never named anyone before how about Adzusa"?

"Hm...If I'm not mistaken Adzusa means someone who puts forth great effort to accomplish their ambition. Also having intensely contrasting feelings toward people, either being fiercely loyal or extremely intolerant".

"Sorry if you don't like it. I could think of something else".

"No Aszusa fits me quiet well. You did a very good job I think".

"I'm glad you like it. So Adzusa how long have you been here"?

"About 5 years but I'm not sure it could be longer. Time seems to pass quickly in this place".

"My friends must be worried. Do you know how long it's been since I got here"?

"Don't worry you've only been here a few days probably no more than a week. If things go the way I hope then you shouldn't have to wait much longer, but you shouldn't leave right away. It will give you the time you to recover enough so it won't be as much of a shock when your mind returns".

"Thank you for helping me. You've been so kind when you don't even know me".

"Don't mention it. Really it was no trouble. Lets just say you remind me of myself a long time ago. Well as much as I would like to stay here talking I have to go. Rest now and don't worry I'll return as soon as I can".

"I'll look forward to it. Be safe and thank you again. Maybe when this is over I can get my friends to help you too".

"As pure hearted as your intentions are I don't think that will happen. Even if they could get me out the truth is I'm where I belong. It's a fitting punishment I suppose".

"How could you say something like that? Why would you think you deserve this"?

The woman sighed looking hopelessly towards the sky as though she were surching for some unforseen answer. "I don't want to lie to you so please don't make me". With that said, as suddenly as she appeared, the misterious woman was gone.

Well I was going to have more and I wanted to have the meeting with Koenma in this chapter but if you read the AN you understand why. So that will be the first thing in the next chapter.
