Chapter 1

Portals.

Hiei walked back and fort reading his notes. He felt his head was about to explode no matter how many times he read the paper. He always found the same mistake.

"It can't be" He whispered.

He couldn't believe it but something was deteriorating the portals from both sides. The Makai and the Ningenkai. More surprising he couldn't feel any ki energy.

He walked back and fort reading his notes and re-reading them for the hundredth time. Since the last two weeks the rate of ningens crossing over had increased and using the jagan to erase those memories became a hassle. He hated to see what were inside the minds of ningens.

He shook his head something was wrong. He was very surprised he couldn't detect it. After five years of training harshly by Mokuro his strength, speed and Ki awareness had increase drastically.

He walked out of his room and headed towards Mokuro's office.

"Come in" she called before he even raised his hand to knock.

"What is it Hiei?"

"I have a concern"

"About?"

"The portals the ones closer to the temple of Genkai's and the one over by the side mountain of out territory are weakening"

"You sure"

"That my explanation for encountering many ningens." Hiei stated.

"Ok, well have to increase the guards on them. Best if we told Koenma."

"Hai, he could send someone." Agreed Hiei

"This is not good, not good." Moaned Koenma (by the way he will be in his teen form)

"What sir?" Asked George.

"The portals they're falling down. Oh man my dad is going to kill me for not catching this soon."

"Well sir who's in charged of the portals?"

"Hiei, did you forget and I can't accuse him because he'll release the dragon on me and also he has been doing a good job."

Soon there was a knock on Koenma's office.

"Come in" he screamed.

"Here's another fax sir." Botan came in.

"Oh no," Koenma cried.

"What?" Asked George

"The increase of demons has increased in the ningenkai and they re causing trouble." Koenma sweat drop.

"Should we call a meeting sir?" Botan suggested.

"Yes, time for another assignments for Yusuke and the rest."

Yusuke walked silently through the halls of the office of spirit world. He was piss he had demons go an attack him at his home. What the hell was going on?

Kuwabara follow behind being very angry since Yukina lives at the temple. She was closest to the portals she could have been in serious danger.

Kurama followed surprised that after five years their peacefulness was over. They had all managed to get careers and live happily in the ningenkai.

Yusuke had married Keiko and Kuwabara was still waiting on Yukina. Everyone had changed over time. Yusuke no longer put gel in his hair. He had mature a lot. Kuwabara was close to finishing college it took him a while to finish but he was close. Yusuke finish high school and some how managed to get a job a construction workers with full benefits. He had gotten a chance to study biology at one the best colleges in Tokyo and had gotten a job researching plant for future medicine.

Kurama sighed he had five years to forget Hiei but it was difficult to do. He hoped the fire demon was doing better.

They all enter to see Koenma seated and waiting for them.

Around the table were files for each one of the Tentais.

As they all sat down Yusuke said, "now that we are here can we start?"

Soon the door was slam open again to reveal not short anymore Black hair white starburst. Wearing no longer his black outfit but a pair of black shoes, blue jeans and a white shirt neatly tuck in cover by a black jacket, and on his back his sword was strap behind no longer at his side.

"It's nice to know I've been forgotten too" said Hiei as he slam the door closed and sat himself next to Kurama.

Kurama was shocked to see how much Hiei had changed.

"Sorry um Hiei" said Yusuke he no longer could call Hiei shrimp seeing he had grown.

"Well as you all now thing have been happening in the ningenkai and the Makai." Koenma said.

"Well no completely" said Kuwabara.

"Open your files and you can see hat the portals separating each of these worlds are falling apart letting anyone walk through easily." Koenma inform.

"When was this data taken?" Ask Kurama analyzing the notes.

"Don't ask me ask Hiei" Koenma retorted.

Kurama gulped and looked to his side and looked at Hiei he had changed a lot. His eyes were a bit softer no longer the immediate death threat but just a don't bother look.

"Hiei?" Asked Kurama.

"Since the last two weeks the abnormally of the crossing has increased but it seems the falling power was awhile back."

"And you didn't notice this" screamed Kuwabara.

"Hn"

"You know Yukina is close to the portals she could have been hurt."

Kurama shook his head he had hit a sensitive spot on Hiei.

Hiei stood up but what was more scary was how slowly Hiei took his time to speak and with each word he increase his ki to show that he was not person to be mess with.

"You're blaming me for letting this happen. I have been taking care of those portals for the last five years while all of you have resume to live thanks to me you haven't been attack for the last years. This was not my fault, it be my fault if I didn't detect this sooner or if I chose not to tell you!"

Kuwabara sank down on in his seat. Hiei was right.

"OK, OK, please calm down." Kurama told both Hiei and Kuwabara.

Hiei sat down and open his files.

"Also the area has been attack, Demons are getting gutsy now and are crossing on at daytime." Hiei inform.

"When did this start?" Asked Yusuke

"About five days ago, someone organizing this good, and whoever it is they must be powerful because I can't sense any Ki."

"Isn't this what Sakyo wanted to do?" Asked Kuwabara.

"Yes, an apparently someone is continuing his work." Koenma said.

"But who?" Asked Yusuke.

"That's what we need to find out." Hiei said.

"Ok, I guess what we should do is be on the look out in both sides. Yusuke and Kuwabara you two should check out the portals of the ningenkai and be on the look out for who crosses over. Kurama you should help Hiei in the Makai"

Kurama froze he was going to be with Hiei he still hadn't completely gotten over him completely he gulped and said "okay"

"Hiei?" Asked Koenma

"Fine with me" said Hiei as he stood up.

"Then for now we should just find information I'll call you later for another meeting." Koenma said as he stood up and started to leave.

"Ok well see you guys later." Said Yusuke and left.

"Yeah bye" Kuwabara said as he follows Yusuke.

"Well come on Kurama lets go." Hiei walked out and walked down the corridors. Kurama follow behind.

'I wonder if he forgot that incident' wondered Kurama Hiei acted so distant but at the same time not cold anymore. Hiei had grown taller he reached up to Kurama nose.

"You've grown" Kurama said making small talk.

"Not now Kurama I'll small talk later we have to get to the mansion I have to report in."

Kurama nodded Hiei wasn't at all trying to be quiet he was just in a hurry.

Hiei entered soon to be received by Mokuro.

"Hiei how did it...well nice to you again Kurama." Mokuro said smiling.

"Nice to see you too." Said Kurama as he nodded his head.

"Kurama is going to help in patrolling the portals." Hiei aid as he handed Mokuro a file of papers.

"These are the notes used in the meeting correct." Mokuro said while flipping through them.

Hiei nodded.

"All right that's it. Hope you enjoy stay here Kurama." Mokuro said as she left.

"I'll try" he murmured.

"Well let's hope you do" said Hiei as he walked toward the back of the mansion.

"Were we going?" Asked Kurama walking behind Hiei.

"Me, I'm going to my room its a little house behind the mansion. You are welcome to follow." Hiei said as he turned around and smile.

"Well I can see you changed a lot." Kurama chuckle.

"Hn, maybe I just had a lot of time to think."

"Really If I may ask about what."

Hiei stop and turn around and face Kurama. "I don't think I want you to know"

Hiei resume walking and Kurama smile, Hiei at least wasn't acting cold or distant towards him.

Kurama caught up with Hiei and look at the little house they were approaching.

"So this is were you live" Kurama asked.

"Hn, yeah or at least my shelter when it rains because I don't like being inside that much."

"I know" both stepped inside Kurama was amaze at how spotless and neat the place was.

"Either you don't spend that much time in here or you take a lot of time to clean it." Kurama commented.

"Both" chuckled Hiei.

Kurama was yawning when he quickly shut his mouth when he saw Hiei staring at him.

"I'm not tired" retorted the Fox.

"Hn, yeah right, the bedroom is that way." Hiei pointed to the opposite direction of where Kurama was standing. "I'll be by in the morning to take you to the portals."

"Where are you going to sleep?" Asked Kurama. " I don't want to take away your room I'll sleep somewhere else it's fine with me."

"Hn, baka kitsune. You know old habits die-hard." With that Hiei left.

" I can tell murmured Kurama knowing where Hiei was going to sleep."
