Chapter Four: Tearing Apart The Tante
Kai and Youko spent the next few days getting to know one another. It was a new experience to the rather brutish kitsune who would rather kill than hug. Yusuke and the gang watched as the two silver haired kitsunes sat outside all day, soaking up the sun.
“What do you think they talk about?” Kuwabara asked the detective. Both stared intently at the two from inside the temple. Hiei looked up at the two.
“Probably how many people he murderer, all the cool techniques, maybe about all the stuff he stole??” Yusuke suggested. Hiei rolled his eyes.
“I doubt the kitsune would tell that to his offspring. Idiot.” Hiei said before he walked off to think about the current events.
“Yeah, I think shorty's right. I doubt that even Youko Kurama would want his kid to know about all that stuff.” Kuwabara mentioned. Yusuke shrugged. It was hard to believe that Youko had a kid, let alone to actually have her staying at Genkai's. It was freaky.
“Don't you think this is weird?” Yusuke mumbled as his head dropped onto his crossed arms. He let them rest on top of the table. Kuwabara thought about the situation and half nodded.
“I guess. I just… well…” Kuwabara blushed. Yusuke picked his head up and laughed at the carrot haired boy.
“You what? Say it Kuwabara!” Yusuke poked the boy. Kuwabara continued to blush and looked down at his feet.
“Well, to be honest, I guess I just always thought that they… used… well… used… some kind of…uhm…” Kuwabara stumbled over his words. Yusuke cracked up hysterically and fell off his chair.
“You thought the kitsune would use protection!!!” Yusuke's face turned bright red as he rolled on the floor. Kuwabara started to pummel the laughing Yusuke until they both noticed the temple door open and Youko walk in with a very angry look on his face.
“What up kitsune?” Yusuke managed to squeak out as he laughed. Youko growled.
“I would prefer you to not talk about my sex life when my daughter is in the near vicinity. Are you aware that we both have acute hearing?!” Youko yelled. Yusuke and Kuwabara both busted out laughing as they ran from the fuming kitsune.
“Seems like you are changing, fox.” Hiei mentioned as he walked back into the room. He noticed that Kurama was back in his human form. The red head looked tired and mentally worn up from keeping the straying kitsune in line.
“Uhh, this is much harder than I anticipated…” Kurama said before his knees gave and he fell towards the floor. Hiei grabbed his partner and pulled him towards a chair. The door opened and Kai walked in, looking slightly pink still, but concerned.
“Dad?” She said when she poked her head into the room. She spotted Hiei and her father's human form.
“Oh. Do you need help?” She offered the fire demon. Hiei eyed her with suspicion. Even he was not privy to the information that the kitsune chose to offer to her. The fox was not to be trusted with valuable information on Hiei's behalf. He would rather not have that information disclosed to outside parties.
“Hnn.” Hiei said as he looked back at a semi-unconscious kitsune. He looked back at Kai who waited for some sign. Hiei sighed inwardly, and Kai stepped forward, as in on cue.
“My father told me about you Hiei. He said that you were a good friend. Slightly obsessive about your sister, but a good friend none the less.” Kai said in a friendly tone. She lifted the red headed boy up with ease and followed Hiei as he led her down the hall to a room. Kai carefully placed the boy on the bed and finally took a second to look at him. His face was pleasant and his long crimson hair was soft to the touch. Kai enjoyed the human's features.
“He's not so bad looking as a human. I suppose it runs through his blood though.” Kai chuckled. Hiei smirked.
`How the kitsune would die to hear that. Oh the flattery.' Hiei thought.
“How did you find him?” Hiei asked as the two of them left Kurama's room. Kai shook out her long silver hair and ran her small hands through it. The nails on her hands were not as long as those on Youko's. Hiei could tell the difference between the two kitsunes. He had seen Youko enough times, and he found himself staring at Kai for a long enough time to observe the differences.
“Well, uhm… my mom has this locket,” Kai said as she fished in her blouse for a tiny locket. Hiei looked at the locket and recognized it as the one from the dresser. “I guess she captured some of Youko's blood in it and used a tracking spell to keep tabs on him. That is how she knew where he was.” Kai said softly. Hiei could sense that the death of the youkai's mother was difficult on her.
“Sorry.” Was all he could say. Kai looked up at the Jaganshi. She shook her head.
“About what?” She asked. Hiei shook his head and grunted.
“Never mind.” Kai watched the Jaganshi and eyed him hopefully.
“What is your sister like?” Kai asked nervously. Hiei `hnned' and turned away from the subject. Kai sighed and rolled her eyes.
“So it's appropriate to ask me about my family, but not the other way? We call that hypocritical. Though father did say…” Kai let the last sentence wander in Hiei's mind. He wanted to know what the damn kitsune had said to his offspring. It was killing him that he couldn't read the girl kitsune.
“I don't speak of it. Your father should have told you that.” Hiei said before he left the room and the girl kitsune. He couldn't stand being around the child of his fighting partner. It really was tearing apart the tante, but it wasn't in the way that Hiei had expected.
