Girl of eternal suffering

Episode 4:
He who toys with ones emotions

“Why yes, Lady of Darkness. How kind and observant of you to notice it is I, Haiyuki!” The man said giving another cold cackle.

“Why are you here, Haiyuki?” Yugure said, almost whispering.

“Oh, please! You know exactly why I'm here, Yugure. Considering the fact that you have seen this happen so many times before. And yet you continue to fall for the same tricks over and over again… Am I really that good of an actor?” He smiled an evil, toothy grin. “Oh, forgive me! Some bad memories?” He said lifting his hand and conjuring up a dark, gray cloud.

It grew slowly and stretched to enfold Yugure as the volume of Haiyuki's ice-cold laugh grew. She tried to escape its gloomy haze but the shade followed her every movement and trapped her in its void. It encircled the woman and dissolved into her body. It didn't seem to have any effect at all for a moment as she glared, confused and annoyed at the man. Then Yugure felt her entire body pulsate and her heart started beating exceedingly fast. She suddenly screamed and dropped to her knees clutching her head tightly and pulling on her silky locks of hair. The bamboo string loosened and broke under the strain allowing her hair to fall over her shoulders. She began to shake uncontrollably and gasped in pain.

“GE- GET OUT OF MY HEAD, KONO YAROU!!” Yugure cried releasing a burst of demonic energy, a black orb of power that emanated from deep within her soul and expanded into a huge sphere growing outwards in a matter of seconds. Everyone in the room was encompassed and pushed back several feet. And no sooner had they blinked their eyes open to see the room about them then did the entire area and everyone in it melt away from each of them. And they seemed to each be transported to somewhere in the middle of a forest.

They all felt sad for reasons they could not for the life of them explain. They simply felt raw dread and unprovoked sorrow buried deep inside their hearts. In the forest a girl in a dark kimono was being held off by several demons. It took a second before they realized. It was Yugure! The demons were pulling her away from another girl who looked exactly like her except the girl was decked out in solid white. Even her hair was white. Demons were dragging the girl in white away from Yugure who was screaming at the monsters holding her. It was faint but they heard her words.

“Let me go! Imoto-chan!” Yugure started to cry as the girl called back to her.

“Onesan!” the girl in white cried squirming trying to break free. But apparently she wasn't strong enough.

Tears began forming in Yugure's eyes as she tried to tear away from the monsters. Meanwhile the other girl disappeared into the forest. “Imoto-chan!” Yugure cried once again. The demons holding her vanished and she raced in the direction they had taken the girl in white crying in agony “You won't hurt her! Not again!!”

The forest was no more as soon as it had been. Everyone in the room was still there. Nothing had changed in the room at all. It was as if they had never left…

“What the hell was that?” Yusuke said confused and glancing around the room. Everyone was dazed and Yugure was on her feet. She seemed to be shaking off the events that had just occurred.

Haiyuki seemed also to have witnessed the events as well and was momentarily put off. Then he turned to smirk triumphantly at Yugure. “So this is what they spoke of. Your… other powers. How interesting and so absolutely intoxicating!” He gave a screech of delight and rushed toward Yugure aiming his blade at her middle. She immediately, in the blink of an eye drew her black katana and fended off his attack. She positioned herself in a samurai stance then aimed a slash at his chest. But Haiyuki had created another cloud this time of a black haze that swallowed her up yet again. And the reaction was the same as before. Yugure fell to her knees screaming and shaking uncontrollably and released another orb of fiendish power. And again the room dissolved to reveal a rather different setting. But this time they had a deep feeling of helplessness and fear.

In a dark room only three lights were glaring on three of what looked like operating tables. Three naked forms laid unconscious, bound to the tables with cords, their chests cut open. Demons were hanging over them with crude tools carving into their sternums. There was blood everywhere. At one of the operating tables there was a girl with black hair- Yugure again. At the table a demon grabbed for something. A black crystalline object that the demon fitted to a hole carved in her sternum. It was shaped perfectly and with a little effort fitted into place with a loud click. It resounded around the room as the same was done to the other three- a girl with white hair, and a boy younger than both Yugure and the other girl. He had short dark brown hair that looked sort of uncontrollable. As soon as the crystals snapped into place they each awoke, screaming in pain. Yugure wreathed in her bindings trying with all her might to break free. Her voice eventually went hoarse and with her eyes blurred with tears she looked to either side of her to see the other forms that lay within the room and the demons hanging over them with gleeful expressions. As she saw the others her expression changed from being contorted with unfathomable pain to overwhelming fear and a great deal emotional aching. These two… were they her brother and sister? Yoake and Churitsu?

And just as before the room returned to normal and Yugure was on her feet yet again, shaking off the images herself.

“That was rather amusing- I must say. You have quite a how would I say… satisfying past?” The man cackled again rushing and slashing at her stomach. Yugure jumped back and the blade left a small scratch across her gut.

As the battle continued the others wondered whom they should be rooting for. And if they should be helping Yugure. They were just plain confused!

Yugure ran toward the man with her blade outstretched in a stabbing motion. Haiyuki dodged and Yugure took another slice at him. Except this time Haiyuki did a sweeping motion downward catching her blade in a carving on the edge of his sword. Yugure tried to pull the blade back but it was stuck. The woman thought for a moment then released her hold on the blade allowing it to fall to the floor. But before it hit the ground Yugure jumped down to retrieve it. As soon as she had caught it she aimed another upward slash at him. But Haiyuki was prepared with another tuft of smoke, now blood red enshrouded Yugure and yet again her energy caused the room to fade away. This time their hearts were filled with hatred and the scene turned to that inside an ancient room of an age-old castle. A girl in a beautiful dark kimono, decorated with a crescent moon and stars, was hunched over the form of dying man. Yugure, they each assumed, had now driven a blade through the stomach of the man.

She started whispering something in the man's ear smirking as she did. “How does it feel, Otosan?” She murmured, pulling the blade from the man and the wound erupted with blood.

They were all pulled from the vision this time by a cry of pain. They blinked and the room returned. Yugure was on the far end- her blade she had driven through Haiyuki's heart. With a short cry he fell to the ground, but Yugure did not withdraw her blade from his cut. Before the man finally died she leaned to whisper into his ear, “ You shouldn't distract yourself so much with memories. Present matters are far more pressing and important.” She snickered, twisted her sword inside his gash “And he who toys with one's emotions cannot hope to escape the wrath of the present.” She smiled blithely at the look of agony and horror on Haiyuki's face as his soul slowly drifted away to hell.

Yugure stood and relinquished the katana from the man's injury releasing a geyser of blood. She did a single clean swipe with the blade to remove the blood and sheathed it. She did not turn to the others but simply walked on saying coldly and quietly, “What you saw- forget it. It has nothing to do with you. I would advise that you return to wherever it is you came from…”

And she disappeared behind a door on the far side of the room.

They were all mystified and rather thrown off by the things they had witnessed, but they had job to do and Hiei had a promise to keep. So they followed her.
