Girl of eternal suffering
Episode 6:
Black and Gold Gems
Hiei halted in the doorway looking on in astonishment, his mouth agape. The hi-youkai walked inside slowly, blinking several times. Yukina remained as she was, smiling sadly at him.
Hiei's heart was racing, beating as fast as he could run. “Yukina…?” He said, almost whispering.
Hiei soon heard the rough breathing of the baka rushing into the room. Kuwabara stopped, to lean against the doorframe. “Yukina-chan…?” Kuwabara said weakly sinking to the floor with a look of absolute disbelief on his face.
“…But. How…?” Hiei said quietly taking another step closer to the Koorime. He turned as the sound of Yugure's and the Others' steps neared. Yugure was the first to enter, stepping in without pausing. She spotted Yukina and her eyes immediately filled with rage.
“Her again…?!” She said coldly, drawing her black-hilted katana.
“What do you think you're doing?” Hiei said glaring at her suspiciously. He drew his own sword.
“That girl… Stay out of my way. The girl. She…” She shook away a few emotions, stepping closer to the girl.
Yugure raced toward Yukina, her blade outstretched ready to split The Koorime in two. Hiei ran as fast he could, blocking Yugure's path.
“I'll kill you as well if you do not move, NOW!” Yugure pushed him aside but Hiei moved in front of her again, pushing her back.
“AAAHHH!” Hiei cried as something ice-cold pierced his shoulder. He whirled and saw Yukina grinning evilly. What? What the hell was going on? He pulled the ice dagger from his shoulder with a grunt of pain. “Yukina…?”
She laughed sending a wall of icy daggers at him. Yugure pushed him aside and used her sword to deflect the projectiles. Her piercing eyes met Yukina's. “Damn you…” Yugure growled. Their eyes held for a moment then Yugure ran toward the girl and took a slash at her stomach, but somehow Yukina dodged, stepping to her left. The ice maiden conjured up a blade of ice, which she grabbed and used to cut Yugure's left arm. The woman staggered back holding her arm. The wound didn't seem to have caused her any pain, however, a moment later Yugure gasped in pain as the wound closed, covered in black haze that disappeared after a moment.
Hiei looked on in terror and awe. He shook his head vigorously and looked up at Yugure in determination. Yugure took another swing at Yukina but barely missed managing only to create a small tear on the front of Yukina's kimono. Hiei jumped up and blocked Yugure's path to Yukina. He lifted his sword and before Yugure could react drove it through her middle. Yugure fell over backward and Hiei went, too, not daring to remove his blade. He kept her pinned as he glared at her furiously. He looked into her eyes and he felt as if he was plummeting, falling into an abyss of despair. Something about her eyes kept making his soul plunge deep into an ocean of despair. He shook away the thoughts as her drove his blade further into her and saying in a refined fit of rage “you won't hurt her! Not again!”
Yugure hadn't reacted at all. It was as if the wound caused her no pain, what so ever. Yugure's hand lifted and she grabbed the blade as she glared up into Hiei's eyes. She clenched the katana tightly saying coldly “I told you not to interfere!” The sword cut into her palm as she clenched it even more tightly. Her eyes glowed angrily and Hiei tried to withdraw his blade but Yugure would not relinquish her hold. “And what makes you think you can kill me anyway?” She tightened her grip until finally the steel gave and the katana shattered. She shoved Hiei off and stood up taking out the remainder of the blade from her stomach.
Yugure picked up her sword, sheathing it and walking toward Yukina. She gasped as a line of pain shot up her body. Yugure looked down to see that just above the wound Hiei had left was what appeared to be a glowing orange sword. Hiei looked up to see the ningen crouching behind Yugure with his Reiken through her upper abdomen, his eyes enshrouded in the shadow of his hair. Hiei blinked in amazement.
“Stay away from Yukina-chan.” Kuwabara said grimly.
Yugure paused staring at the spirit sword. She growled in fury taking her elbow and thrusting it into Kuwabara's gut sending him flying backward. The Reiken disappeared. Yugure turned toward him her eyes burning with rage “Stay back!” She cried using her dark powers to send Kuwabara flying back against the wall. He hit the wall hard crashing to floor in a heap. He lifted himself up as best he could, managing only to climb to his hands and knees. Yugure looked over at Yusuke and Kurama as the crack of the rose whip resounded and Yusuke lifted his finger, readying his Reigun.
She growled grabbing Hiei by the scruff of his neck and throwing him toward the others. She gave a cry of rage as she gathered up a huge supply of energy. Yusuke's finger started glowing, ready to fire and Kurama readied the rose whip. But before anything happened Yugure suddenly cried out in pain, dropping to her knees and holding her stomach, where Hiei and Kuwabara had wounded her. A black haze began to envelope her wounds and the fell to the ground, still screaming in pain. In a few moments she stopped screaming laying motionless for a while. After a minute of uneasy silence the woman stood up and looked over at them weakly. Yusuke blinked staring at where her wounds had been. They weren't there anymore! They had closed completely, leaving only two large tears on the front of her clothes.
“What the-?” Yusuke said, both confused and amazed. “The hell just happened?! Botan?”
“ I think… it was a very advanced form of Demon healing.” The bubbly but certainly not cheery voice of Botan answered from behind Yusuke.
“Demon healing?” he said turning to look at Botan with an expression of total confusion on his face.
She nodded “Yes. It's like spirit healing except using Demon Energy, which draws on the elements of pain itself to seal wounds. The most agonizing form of healing. Apparently Yugure is very skilled in demon healing, probably learned in her first life.”
“Wow…” Yusuke said looking again at Yugure.
“It doesn't matter!” Hiei cried getting to his feet and racing after the dazed Yugure.
The woman's eyes snapped open and she raised her arms sending a burst of energy toward him. Hiei flew back hitting the wall and falling to the floor face down. He gasped, pushing himself off the ground. He used almost all of his energy just to sit and lean against the wall. An instant later Yugure had surrounded the entire group in a powerful black barrier.
Yusuke didn't wait one second “reigun!” he cried firing at the spirit shield. The blast hit the screen, defusing instantaneously and dispating without having the smallest effect on the barrier. Kurama took a couple swipes at it with the rose whip, however the green vine turned coal black and reverted to a black rose, which eventually crumbled to a pile of ash.
“Stop interfering!” Yugure said icily “This Woman's life belongs to me!”
She turned to Yukina drawing her katana, but this time it was the white hilted katana that she drew. Hiei gasped, watching in horror as Yugure began a relentless assault against his Imoto-chan. Yugure took a few slow, yet powerful strikes at Yukina which all missed. Finally Yugure took a dash at Yukina that couldn't be dodged, tackling the Ice Maiden and with her pinned to the ground drove the blade through the girl without hesitation. There was no cry of pain; Yukina's body simply went limp. His eyes glowed coldly as they filled with tears of rage and sorrow. Kuwabara gave a small whimper of protest as he watched Yukina's eyes grow blank and lifeless. Yugure stood without removing her katana from Yukina. She immediately drew her black-hilted katana and raced toward the opposite side of the room from the imprisoned team. With the black katana she cut at the door facing her and it disappeared as if it were never there and the room grew in size.
What the hell was going on? The door reappeared about 2 yards away from where it had been a moment ago and right behind it was a sinister looking demoness covered in black leaves. She growled in frustration at Yugure's actions.
“I thought you might have something to do with this, Shoyu!” Yugure said with wrath in her every breath. “Still cowering behind your puppets, I see, Shoyu!”
“Humph! Call it what you will, you despicable beast!” The creature spat.
“But it is true and you know it! You're the greatest coward in all the universe, Shoyu!”
The demoness growled in rage, running at Yugure holding an orb of energy in her hand, but Yugure was too fast and she slashed at Shoyu's chest. Shoyu stared at the scar in horror and with a cry anguish slowly the woman disappeared. Yugure sheathed her katana and walked to take her sword from Yukina's body, which she also sheathed.
Hiei watched Yugure, his eyes mirroring intense hatred beyond imagination, as the dark spirit shield faded away. Hiei suddenly found his strength flying at Yugure, his eyes streaming black gems, and his bandana beginning to melt away. As he neared the woman he readied the black dragon, but a subtle movement from where Yukina laid distracted him. He stopped to look over at the young ice maiden. She had stirred! That's when he realized it. The place Yugure had driven her katana looked as if it had been untouched. The clothes weren't even scratched. Yukina slowly lifted herself up to sit and blink, looking around the room, dazed and confused. She spotted Hiei and her eyes filled with tears.
“Oniisan!” She said smiling, her eyes flowing with bright gold gems. “It was you, after all!”
Hiei staggered, staring in disbelief, however her smile had destroyed all his doubts. She was really there! And she was just as she had always been: sweet and kind. Finally he managed to make his lead-filled legs dash to Yukina. He flung his arms around her holding her as tightly as he could. He looked as if he would never let go.
“Oniisan!” Yukina sobbed, “I was so scared. I'm so happy you're here now.”
Yusuke had already asked Botan the question “what happened?”
Botan replied with great joy and relief in her voice “I think I know. That sword of hers. The one with the white wrappings about the hilt. It seems to possess the powers of a Phantom Sword ((note from the author: No I couldn't come up with a better name! So no making fun!))! There are very few of them, because they are so difficult to create. But the sword is used to directly target one's spirit instead of their body! In this particular case Shoyu was possessing Yukina so the sword warded away the demoness's spirit until Yugure could kill her Shoyu. So basically Yugure saved Yukina!” She smiled brightly.
Hiei just held the weeping Koorime as tightly as he could without hurting her. Hiei finally released Yukina. Wiping the gems from beneath his Imoto-chan's eyes and from his own. He smiled at her kindly, as the entire world seemed to return to Hiei, peaceful and now: fulfilled.
Suddenly Yukina lifted her hands to his Hiei's face, a look of worry in her eyes. “Oniisan! You're hurt!” she said. Her hands began glowing and the hi-youkai seemed to relax as a warm sensation swept through him. And slowly the grazes and gashes on his face faded away, and a bit of his strength returned. Yukina withdrew her hands saying sadly “I'm sorry I can't do anymore”
“It's- I'm… fine.” He said his eyes almost glowing with tears. He shook them away.
Yugure watched the two's embrace intently. Hiei looked up at her, still with the slightest hint of hatred in his eyes. But his eyes were still considerably softer than before. Yugure caught his eyes and they leveled for a moment until Yugure's eyes fell to the weeping Ice maiden and they flashed waves of unspeakable emotions. It seemed to do something to her as she probed Yukina's memories.
It looked almost as if she would cry when she turned away to continue, silently out the opposite door.
“Botan” Hiei said without turning “could you… take her to the Ningenkai?”
Botan nodded “Of course!” she said, her oar reappearing. She floated to Yukina offering a hand and Yukina grabbed it. “See you later” Botan said, pulling Yukina onto the oar and disappearing out the door.
Yukina waved, smiling and saying brightly “Good luck.”
“Bye Yukina” Kuwabara said in the usual bright and stupid voice he used when he talked to Yukina, his cheeks turning a bright red as he assumed the big stupid smile he wore around Yukina.
Baka! Hiei thought smiling.
