Ch.4: A Tender Moment aand More Training

We returned to the yard to finish training, but when we got there, Hiei picked me up bridal-style and leaped into the tree where we'd slept that morning. Instead of letting me down, he pulled me closer and held me tighter. I blushed.

"Hn. Hiei, you do know I could have done this myself, right? You can put me down, too."

"Hn. I know. But I don't want to."

"Hiei? What are you going to do? What about training?"

"Hn. We can pick it up in the morning, but right now, I'm going to kiss you."

"Oh, Hiei.", I laughed as he kissed my forehead, then my nose, then my lips.

I blushed and giggled softly.

"The detective was right. I did want to be alone with you."

"You read my mind, Hiei. You read my mind." Finally we leaped out of the tree and landed together, each on one knee, in the field.

"You're getting the hang of this, ningen.", Hiei smiled and winked at me. I growled. Looking at Hiei with fire in my eyes, I whipped out my katana.

"I told you not to call me 'ningen'," I growled, voice low. Hiei reached for his katana. With fire in his eyes, he smiled at me, then growled.

"You're on." I attacked first. He dodged it. Then he smiled at me.

"You're so . . . beautiful, when you get angry.", he commented.

"Am I?", I returned, lunging at him. I attacked and wounded him.

"Like a rose . . . beautiful but deadly.", he returned and attacked.

"Not quite, koibito! You're mine!", I yelled, and attacked. This time I'd won fast, neither of us had run out of breath. That is, until he grabbed me. His lips quickly locked with mine. I didn't resist. It was at that point that we leaped back into the tree to rest.

Hiei held me tight, cradled in his arms as if this were the last time we would ever touch.

We were still kissing. My mind raced, flooded with joy, pleasure and . . . a sense of danger. Suddenly, we broke apart.

"Hn. Something's wrong here, my little fire mistress."

"Hn! There! There it is.", I cried, pointing to the tree beside us. I leaped out of Hiei's arms and cried:

"Hiei! Jump! NOW!!!!!"

"Hn? Hn, all right.", he said, and jumped off the branch. Within seconds, another arrow landed. Hiei and I were now both in the garden on one knee.

"How'd you-",Hiei started, then he stopped, as both our jaagans glowed.

"So you- "

"Sensed it? Hn. My jaagan showed me." I paused.

"Did you call me 'Fire Mistress'?", I asked

"Hn. You are a fire youkai, true?"

"Yes?"

"Also a female fire youkai, true?"

"Hn. Where are you going with this, koi?"

"Hence the name. Fire Mistress. Understand?", Hiei asked.

"Oh! Of course, love! Yes, I understand it now.", I laughed, then blushed.

"It's my pet name for you."

"I can see that.", I laughed, wondering if we should get back to training. Hiei answered for me. When I saw the look in his eyes, I whipped out my katana again.

"Let's do this. Hiei, you wanna fight again, I can see it in your eyes."

"So? What do you say, Fire Mistress? Hn?"

"I'm gonna kick your- Whoa. I'd better not go there. Hn. Let's do it!"

"Yes, that's what I thought. You're getting cocky."

"Just the way you like it!"

"You know me well, Erin. My little Fire Mistress knows me very well, hn?"

I charged at him quickly, then jumped. I swung at his shoulder and hit him.

"Hn. Too well, it seems, love. You're being too predictable."

"Hn. That's your opinion, my beloved Fire Mistress."

"Is it? Hn. I see it as fact, and nothing more. ", I said, grunting as I jumped high into the tree, where it was dark, and Hiei couldn't see.

"You can't hide from me, Erin! Now you're the one who's being predictable."

"Hn. Am I?", I said as I appeared behind him, and struck with my katana before he sensed me. I'd won again, and this time, I'd beaten him at full power.

"You are strong, koi. Or should I say . . . Fire Mistress."

"Hn. Of course I am, fool! Look who my teacher was!", Hiei laughed with an infamous "Hn." I could tell he thought it funny that I'd said just what he would've. "I know I'm right about that, hn?",I asked.

"Yes. He's the best there is.", said a voice.
