Ch 5: Interrupted! A Visit From Kurama.

Last time

"You are strong, koi. Or should I say . . . Fire Mistress."

"Hn. Of course I am, fool! Look who my teacher was!", Hiei laughed with an infamous "Hn." I could tell he thought it funny that I'd said just what he would've.

"I know I'm right about that, hn?",I asked.

"Yes. He's the best there is.", said a voice.

This Time

"Kurama, you know that's not true."

"Oh, yes it is, Hiei, and you know it is. You're being modest.",Kurama shot back.

I watched in partial surprise as the cunning fox demon and my beloved Hiei argued for a few minutes.

"I'm not as strong as you, Hiei. You're the better teacher. I am only a fox demon."

"Yes, and the most cunning of all.", Hiei said.

"Hmm . . . not quite, Hiei. Not compared to you." Finally I stepped in.

I asked Kurama what he had come for. This way, I could get their minds off of arguing

" I wanted to make sure you two were really training.", he answered. Both our faces flushed. Before Hiei could say something rash, I asked,

"The detective sent you, didn't he?"

"Mm-hmm. You are clever, Erin."

"Hn. Makes sense. Baka.", Hiei and I said together.

"You two are on a roll."

"Hn?", We asked.

"That was the third time I'd heard you both say the same thing at the same time."

"Oh.", I said, hiding a blush. I explained that I was used to it, because of watching the show, and always copying Hiei.

"Hiei is right, Kurama."

"About what?"

"You being cunning. That's why he picked you as his partner."

"Hm? When?"

"When you battled the four saint beasts. He wanted to avoid fighting you."

"Hn. You do watch the show a lot, Erin."

"Hn. Yes, and I even can quote what you said that episode."

"Really?", Kurama asked.

"Do it." I got ready, and switched gears, making my voice copy Hiei's.

"You know why I picked him as my partner? To avoid fighting him myself. When it comes to battle, he's more cunning and unbelievably precise!"

"Hn. She's exactly right." Kurama looked at me, astonished.

"How'd you do that?"

"Hn. I guess I watch the show a little too much. Plus, I've got a good memory.", I said.

"Yes. Apparently a very good one."

"How did you copy my tone, Erin?", Hiei asked.

"I told you, Hiei. I'm used to it.", I laughed. I looked at Hiei, then motioned for him to come closer.

"In addition you're my favorite. I'm most like you, Hiei.", I whispered in his ear.

"Hn. No wonder we get along so well.", he whispered back. Then we both turned to Kurama again. He was looking at us suspiciously until we both roared,

"WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT?!!"

"A little softer next time, please!",Kurama squeaked.

"Oops, sorry Kurama!", we said. Then all three of us burst out laughing.

"Hey, what's going on out here?", asked Yusuke

"These two nearly busted my eardrums!", Kurama shouted. He pointed to us.

Hiei and I turned to walk away.

"Hey, wait! Why are you two lovebirds being so evasive?"

"Hn. None of your business, detective.", I said, whirling to face Yusuke.

"Ouch! Looks like she put you in your place, Urameshi!", said Kuwabara, who'd apparently been watching the scene the whole time.

"It's none of yours either, baka." I heard Yusuke teasing Kuwabara about my remark, as Hiei & I walked off. Suddenly, I heard someone calling my name.

"Hn. It's that baka detective. I'll be back, koi."
