Kurama knelt by the girl to see eye-to-eye with her.
Sunia squeaked, staring at the bloody bed, the bloodier Hiei, and the odd Jin. Then she looked sympathically at the fire demon again, nimbly skipped up to him (avoiding her step brother, who tried to grab her), clambered up to the bed, and stood on the mattress. Then she petted Hiei's spiked black hair, like he was a big kitten. “Poor `iei. His arm got hurted. Does it feels bad? I broked my arm once, and it hurted `lot.”
Hiei sat perfectly still to not disturb the tiny child, who was still petting him “Kurama, do something!”
Kurama was trying desperately not to laugh, his cheeks bright red. “Excuse me,” he gasped, and then rushed out of the room. A few moments of petting later, Jin, tiny Sunia, and Hiei (much to his annoyance) heard the sounds of someone in high hilarity somewhere on the lawn.
“Well, it looks like we have to take Sunia with us,” Kurama reasoned when he had returned and was able to speak intelligibly again.
“I hate to be the one who interjects logic and reason into a fun conversation,” Jin replied, surprising them all- including himself. “But if little Sunia comes with us, not only will we have to explain to the others why three demons couldn't stop a four year old human form listening-“
“I did stop her from listening,” Hiei snapped.
“From listening to our conversations,” Jin continued, ignoring Hiei's interruption and Sunia's scolding that Hiei should not talk and should sit still. “But we will also have to convince her not to tell her parents about this.”
Kurama sighed. “That's the problem. We have to get to Kuwabara's house-“(Hiei growled)-“as soon as possible. That means that we cannot stop to convince her, but if we bring her along, we will have a much harder time of convincing her. It's bad one way if we get her to go back to bed now, because Hiei might die, but it's also bad another way if we're all exposed, along with the entire Spirit World.”
“Then let's just-“Jin broke off suddenly as he saw Kurama and Hiei both looking at the broken window. No, looking out the broken window. “What?” he demanded.
“An aura,” Hiei answered simply. He pulled himself off the bed, clad only in his shredded, bloody, black pants. He looked, despite all the writhing mixture of cruelty and compassion barely contained in his short body, like a hero returning from battle only to find the monster he killed was alive. Stoic to a fault, remorseful at his failure, and maybe a little- maybe more than a little- scared.
Sunia squeaked and tumbled off Hiei's back as he and Kurama moved to the window. Jin, realizing his role in this, quickly picked her up as Hiei slid to the wall next to the window. They could not see him, or the demon might attack and murder them before they had a chance to bargain or think of and escape plan.
“Come out, little fire demon,” crowed a scratching voice from the lawn. “I have a wish to meet with you!”
Yuske tensed in the bushes, surprised by the call. The demon was really after Hiei? Why Hiei?
“Come out, dear one!” crowed the snake woman again. Yuske summoned his aura, guiding it toward his finger tips. He would need it, along with the best aim he had. She was fast, faster then a certain fire demon. He would only get one shot, and only if he was lucky. If not, all of them where dead or worse…
