His Reasons to Live
A twenty one year old Urameshi Yusuke climbed up his sensei's, Genkai, temple stairs with two bundles in his arms. His breathing was irregular and ragged. He was limping and stumbling about, but never once fell or lost his grip on the two bundles cradled to his chest. Yusuke's pants were torn and so was his shirt. His left eye was shut as a long gash from just about the eyebrow sliced down in a slight arc. The gash was five, maybe six inches long and still bleeding. There were other numerous gashes and stab wounds all over his body. Some held poison in them, others were so deep that you can tell it hit bone, but still he pursued.
Once at the top of the stairs he let what little spirit energy he had, pour out through his wounds to signal his sensei. Yes, it was painful, but his voice was weak and his arms full. To his relief, the aged woman he had come to know as a grandmother, came rushing out. Beside her was a young koorime demoness known as Yukina. They gasped as his bloody appearance but rushed to his side. Yusuke, being stubborn didn't accept their help when they esorted him into the shrine.
Once in a room Yusuke finally fell to his knees. Yukina rushed to him to treat him, only to have two bundles thrust into her arms. "No..." He whispered. "Take care of them first..." Genkai got curious and helped Yukina unravel the blankets. In them was a boy and a girl. They were not more that four or five years old. The boy had long wild black hair that was tied into a low ponytail. He was wearing a pair dark blue fighting pants and a green sleeveless shirt. The girl had dark brown hair with black underneath it. It was shoulder length and pulled back with a head scarf. She was wearing a pink chinese female fighting outfit.
"But Yusuke..." Yukina protested. "You are injured far worse than these children."
"I'll survive, just make sure the kids are alright." He said as he closed his eyes. Yukina looked at Genkai, who nodded to her to obey Yusuke. The young koorime nodded and laid the children down and began to heal the minor wounds they had.
Yusuke slowly moved so he had his back against the wall as he opened his eyes to watch Yukina treat the kids. Genkai took a seat beside Yusuke and crossed her arms.
"So...who are they?" Genkai glance at Yusuke only see his bloody left eye. She also noticed how he had a stud in his ear. She couldn't tell the color because there was too much blood.
"The boy is Susa, and the girl is Nefertiri." He replied.
"How did you get your wounds?" Genkai asked softly.
"They escaped from Raizen's place and got into trouble. I got them out," Yusuke stated simply. Genkai study her old pupil. She sensed there was more to it, but didn't press on.
"Were they poison also?" She looked at the two slumbering children.
"No..." Yusuke smiled. "I made sure they were fine..."
"Are they so important that you'd almost kill yourself?" She questioned.
"For my children, I'd die..." He murmured as the poison, blood loss, and exhaustion finally got to him and he passed out. Genkai stared at Yusuke then looked at the children.
"His children?" She whispered as her eyes widened at the impliment.

The young boy opened his golden brown eyes and gazed at the white ceiling. He turned to see his younger sister, Nefertiri, still sleeping. Sitting up his held his head and felt bandages around his hand and forehead. He looked around, putting his hand down. 'Where the hell am I?' He asked himself as he stood. He saw a rice paper door leading out the a walkway, but nothing else. It was just a regular traditional Japanese room. He went to his sister and shook her awake.
"Ri-chan, get up." He said. She turned over. "Wake up, I don't think we are in Makai anymore."
"Susa...what are you talking about?" Nefertiri asked sleepily as she rubbed her eyes.
"We are not at Raizen's Castle anymore. I think we are in Ningen-kai." Susa said. Nefertiri stretched then stood up and rubbed her eyes again.
"Well duh, we left to go in the woods remember. Then we got in trouble and daddy had to save us." The young girl remembered then gasped. "I hope daddy is alright!"
"Yea, dad did take quite a beating for us." Susa said. "But then the idiot that held us knocked us out so we don't know if dad is still alive."
"Don't say that...." Nefertiri said sadly as her eyes began to water. "Daddy promised to stay with us." Susa sighed and hugged his sister.
"Don't cry, you know I hate it when you do that. How about we check out this place then find dad?" He suggested. Nefertiri sniffled and nodded. "Good, now stay quiet and follow me." He said.
Susa slid the door open and looked out. The coast was clear from both sides. He went out and motioned Nefertiri to follow. They crept down the hallway trying to sense their father in some way. Both children soon found themselves in a large dojo.
"Wow...." Nefertiri and Susa awed. They've never seen such a traditional dojo like this in Ningen-kai.
"I assume you like it..." They turned to see a old lady their height walk toward them.
"Who the hell are you, old hag?" Susa said crossing his arms.
"Susa!" Nefertiri scolded.
"What? She is and she's our height!" Susa yelled as he pointed at the old lady.
"I am Genkai..." She sweatdropped. "And this is my home in Ningen-kai."
"See told ya." Susa smirked at Nefertiri who rolled her eyes. "So where exactly in Ningen-kai are we?"
"A few miles out from Tokyo." Genkai replied as she watched the children. They turned to each other and smiled.
"Close to Auntie Atsuko!" The young girl said. "We can go visit her!"
"I still want to know what the 'baa-san did with dad." Susa crossed his arm glaring at Genkai.
"She didn't do anything to me Susa. I'm fine." They turned to see Yusuke walk in with a slight limp. He was cleaned up and wearing a yukata Genkai had. His left eyes was bandaged up as were the rest of his injuries.
"You should be resting..." The older woman said. Ignoring the comment, he stopped next to Genkai and looked down at his children.
"Are you two okay?"
"We're okay Daddy! Just worrying about you." Nefertiri said as she walked to him. Yusuke knelt down and picked her hugging her.
"It will take more than that demon to kill me." Yusuke said as he smirked at his daughter.
"I wasn't worried. Ri-chan was the one crying." Susa said. Yusuke smiled and put Nefertiri down slowly.
"Was not!" Nefertiri defended.
"Was too!"
"Was not!"
"Was too!"
"Alright..." Yusuke said rubbing his head. "Enough, Susa apologize to Genkai."
"Why should I?" Susa asked.
"She is my sensei, she has put up with me, and for she helped healed our wounds." Yusuke replied sternly. Susa glared at his father. Yusuke glared back with one eye. "Susa..."
"OH FINE!" Susa huffed. "Sorry Genkai-san. Thank you for taking care of us."
"Stubborn isn't he?" Genkai asked. Yusuke nodded and smiled. "So what will you do now Yusuke?"
"I don't know...go to my mother's? But I doubt she'll be happy to see me like this." He replied as he looked at his children. "Go train you guys, I have to speak to Genkai alone."
"Okay!" They said at the same time. Susa smirked and ran off ahead of Nefertiri. She yelled after him and followed to the other side of the large dojo.
"So, going to tell me what happened?" Genkai asked.
"They were about to be beaten by a large dragon demon known as Marutsuma. I got there just in time. I took their place and received it twice as much." Yusuke replied as he traced the bandages over his left eye. "I didn't let him the pleasure of hearing me scream like he wanted to. So, he tried to hurt the children to force me to yell."
"But they only have scratches..." She said looking up at her former pupil. Yusuke nodded. "You killed him..."
"He harmed my children...so I let my beast run free for the night." His eye narrowed as he silently growled. "He better be happy that I can't revive him or I'd make him die a trillion deaths."
"Protective of them aren't you?" Genkai said trying to calm him. It seemed to work as he half smiled.
"I'm the father, I will not leave them like their mother." He said with strange calm.
"Who is the mother?" Genkai turned to Yusuke with a serious expression.
