His Reasons to Live

"Who is the mother?" Genkai turned to Yusuke with a serious expression.

"Keiko," Yusuke replied shortly.

"How?"

"She was giving me mixed signals. My beast acted on them. She claimed I raped her and was going to have abortion." He told his sensei.

"What changed her mind?" Genkai persisted.

"I begged her. If she bore them, I'd keep them and she could leave." Yusuke tilted his head slightly as he watched his children train.

"And she did?" Yusuke nodded. "Bitch..."

"Tell me about it," He smiled. Genkai smiled back.

"You can stay here until your wounds heal," Yusuke blinked and looked down at Genkai. "Or as long as you like..." She said as she turned around.

"Thank you..." He looked down not knowing what else to say.

"Yusuke," Genkai called. Yusuke turned to her and raised an eyebrow. "Its good to see you again."

"You too, Genkai." Yusuke half smiled as Genkai walked out. He turned his head back to the floor and stared at it with a frown.

"Kurama, Hiei, Kuwabara I have a mission for you." Koenma said.

"We wouldn't be here if you didn't." Kuwabara rolled his eyes.

"Yes, well...I need you to find a man."

"Well sir, that is very vague." Kurama replied as he put his hands behind his back.

"If you would not interrupt..." Koenma said rubbing his eyes. "This man has been reported to to be Marutsuma's killer." Hiei looked surprised

"Marutsuma?" Kurama whispered the name.

"Care to fill me in?" Kuwabara asked as he pulled out a cigarette.

"Marutsuma is a Dragon demon in Makai. He is very powerful." Koenma said.

"Impossible! Not even the Lords of Makai can kill him." Hiei stated. "Well...someone did. He is dangerous and must be found." The baby ruler said around his pacifer.

"Anything leads? Clues, evidence?" Kuwabara asked. He was now more aware of things when going on missions. He didn't have Yusuke watching his back anymore. Since Yusuke asked to no be around the spirit detectives for a couple of years, things changed. Kurama and Hiei were both more reserved than before. With their leader gone, it was as if the glue holding them together was falling apart.

"There was a portal opened recently near Genkai's shrine." Koenma responded. "I want you to start as soon as you guys have a plan of action."

OooooOOoooOOooOOoOoo A few days later...


Yusuke was sitting outside next to a wooden pillar. He was in a gray-blue yukata with a blue haori over his shoulders. His necklace hung low on his neck. It, along with his red stud earrings, were cleaned. His minor wounds were healed but his major ones stayed. Yukina has healed him of the poisons, but couldn't close to the wounds. He had a bandage over his eye still as well as his neck, both arms, right thigh, and his left calf. His stomach also bandage from the stab wound he had. The pain didn't matter though, as long as he's alive for his kids, it didn't matter.

"Daddy! We found another one!" Nefertiri shouted. She and Susa ran to him with a small wolf cub in their hands. Yusuke smiled. When Keiko left him with them, he was beginning college to be a veternarian. It was his third year when they were thrusted into his life.

"Let me see," Yusuke said taking the small cub. He inspected the cub with his right eye.

"Is it alright daddy?" Nefertiri asked curiously. Yusuke nodded.

"Yes, just a little limp." He replied with a small smile. "Release it back into the woods. The pack must be worried about it."

"Kay!" The two ran off back into the woods with the cub.

"So, do they do this a lot?" Yukina asked as she sat beside Yusuke.
"Hey Yukina..." He turned his head so he could see her. "Find your brother yet?"

"I have a hunch, but I'm not going to act on it." She said. Yusuke nodded. He looked into the forest. He couldn't tell her Hiei is her brother. Hiei has to do that himself. Yusuke wondered what was taking so long for Hiei to do so. "Are they why you left the reikai tantei?"

"Yea, I didn't have the heart to leave it all to my mother." Yusuke said.

"I see," Yukina smiled. "It is good to see that you are well."
"I guess..." He said. "You are a very kind person Yukina. If your brother is good or evil or whether he has death on his hands as I do, I bet he would do anything to make you happy." Yusuke smiled. Yukina blinked then nodded happily.

"You know Yusuke, there are people who care about you..." She replied. Yusuke blinked then got an idea. "Yukina can you watch the kids? I got to make a phone call." He said. He used the wooden pillar beside him to help him stand.

"Do you need any help?" She asked as she turned to watch him walk into the shrine.

"Please just watch the kids." Yusuke replied over his shoulder. He limped into the kitchen and walked over to the white phone on the counter.

'I hope she's home...' Yusuke thought as he dialed a number slowly. He listened to it ring as he thought of the person he was calling. He heard the other end pick up.

"Moshi Moshi!" A melodious female voice rang over the phone. Yusuke breathed a sigh of relief.

"Good you are home."

"Yusuke-kun? You sound stressed what's wrong?" The female on the other line asked.

"I killed a dragon youkai for the kids....Marutsuma to be exact." Yusuke replied rubbing his face.

"Oh dear..." the female whispered. "What are you going to do?"

"I need to get the kids' spirit energy shielded. You are the only person that can do that without sealing their demon side." He said. His voice lowered. "Please...I need your help..."

"Yusuke..." The woman said softly. "I'll be right over just tell me where you are." Yusuke half smiled as he explained where Genkai lived.

Genkai walked away from the door. She heard Yusuke come into the house and followed him to the phone. He wondered who he was talking to. His voice was soft and caring. This person must be important to him. She wondered as she walked out to Yukina who was playing with the children.

Yusuke came out soon after his one arm in his yukata again the other out. Genkai glanced at him. "You look like Auron from Final Fantasy X." She commented. He grinned slightly.

"Only without the katana, the bottle of booze, and sunglasses right?" He replied.

"And younger..." Genkai smirked. "And more lazy..." Yusuke shrugged and went to his kids.

"Guys," Yukina and the children looked up. "It is time to train. You can play with Yukina later." Ice apparition smiled and nodded as she left them.

"Right now dad?" Susa asked with a frown.

"Right now...defensive positions." Yusuke said as he stepped toward his children.

"Daddy!" Nefertiri whined.

"Nefertiri, do you want to have a punishment?" Nefertiri shook her head. "Then defensive positions."

"Stupid..." Susa mumbled trailing off. Despite that they both got into their stances. With a count off from Yusuke they started to move in concentrate perfection. Genkai watched as it changed to Offensive before Yusuke had the kids go against themselves. She watched in awe as they were as skill as Yusuke was when he came to her untrained.

About two hours later it was dinner time. The children were exhausted. They had gone into some intensive training with Yusuke. He has a thin stick and was attack them with it. They each had their own and had to defend and attack in certain spot. If they didn't succeed in hitting or 'getting' that spot, they would have to run down and up the shrine stairs, then around the shrine and back to Yusuke in less than six minutes. If they didn't do that, they would have to do it again with the time limit shorter.

Genkai was surprised they had enough energy to eat and stand. She thought they would be too young to handle that kind of training. Susa assured her that their normal sensei is tougher than their father. Nefertiri agreed with him as they began to eat. Yusuke shook his head and ate his food.

After dinner, Yusuke put the children down to sleep with Yukina. He kissed them and bid them goodnight before allowing Yukina to tell them a story. He stepped outside and sat on the stairs into the dojo. Looking at the sky, he thought about what he was going to do now. He felt an outer haori being dropped on his shoulders and looked up.

"Genkai..."

"Don't die before me alright dimwit." She said not looking at him. He blinked then smile slightly.

"I'll try not to grandma." He replied. "I'm going to stay out a bit longer." Genkai nodded then turned around and began to walk away. "Thanks again Genkai..." Yusuke's voice called as she entered her home. He turned back to the sky and waited. She was taking a lot longer to get her than he anticipated. 'I hope she's alright...' He thought. Yusuke was brought out of his thoughts when he heard someone hit the top stair with a heavy step. He turned his head to see the woman his was waiting for. Her black hair shined in the starlight as her bright blue eyes glowed with worry as she saw him. He slowly stood using the railing for support. Yusuke then walked down the stairs and across the yard.

"Yusuke...." She whispered and dashed toward the injured man. He stopped as she collided into him. Grunting, Yusuke lifting her off his chest. She had tears in her eyes as raised her hand to his bandaged eye. "What did he do to you?"

"What he was going to do Nefertiri and Susa..." Yusuke responded. The woman in his arms gasped. "Don't worry, they only got a few scratches, they are healed."

"Oh Yusuke, didn't Enki go with you?" She asked.

"No, the kids ran from the castle, I went alone." He said turning away.

"Do you need a place to stay?"

"Until I heal it would be nice."

"My home is your home Yusuke, you know this..." She said with a smile. "So...does it hurt?"

"No...my minor injuries are gone. I only have a few gashes and the stab wound in my stomach." Yusuke said. "I'll be fine, I just need a place I know the children will be safe." The woman leaned toward Yusuke.

"You know I will keep you safe..." She whispered. Yusuke leaned down and brushed his lips against hers.

"That's why I trust you..." He pressed his lips against hers in a gentle kiss. She was the first to pull away and smiled.

Genkai watched from the shadows of her home. She recognized the energy and aura around the girl. She was a miko, but weren't they extinct? Genkai was surprised when Yusuke and the young girl kissed. He didn't say he was seeing anyone. Something click in her head. Nefertiri had blue eyes, bright blue eyes like this young woman. What surprised Genkai the most is that when the woman pulled away, he smiled. Not his half smiles he's been giving lately, but a true smile.

"Come on, let's grab Nefertiri and Susa." The young girl said. Yusuke nodded and led her with a limp to the room. She picked up Nefertiri and he grabbed Susa. "Let's go..." They left quickly and got down to her car. Yusuke turned and looked at Genkai's shrine once more.

"Thanks...Genkai..." He said. Yusuke felt Susa being taken from him and saw the young woman put the boy in the back seat. She then helped Yusuke get into the passenger seat. She went around, got in, and started the car. Driving off she glanced at Yusuke.

"You alright?" She asked.

"Yea..." Yusuke looked at her. "Thanks....Kagome..."
