Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Insanity's Requiem ❯ The Day After ( Chapter 2 )

He felt even more as if he were in a prison today. There was no escaping that. On normal days he could at least leave the room every now and then, but because of the little fiasco from last night the two were literally getting `locked' up within the room. It was crazy in his opinion, how did they expect him to NOT kill her if he was forced to spend every single SECOND with her. He couldn't even at least sit off by himself in a musky old lunchroom now because of that, were they trying to make him insane too?!!?
Then again, he wasn't really spending every single second with the girl, she was in the shower of their shared bathroom right now and he was too busy ripping the fringed edges of his cot blanket to really care about how long she was taking in there. He was agitated, and he couldn't kill something, that was the equivalent of a little kid not being able to eat in five days only to find a candy bar dangling out of their reach. Since he knew of the consequences of attacking the room mate however, he opted to just ripping the blanket, at least he wouldn't get in trouble for that. After all it was his blanket; he could do whatever the hell he wanted to it.
The T.V. was on; he could have been watching that to get his mind off his agitation, but that wasn't exactly stress relieving in his opinion. A few nurses had come in that morning however to place their breakfast upon some tables to the side of the room before popping in a movie to the Boxed in TV that hung just an inch of the screen out of the wall nearest the halls. There was some sort of fight going on he gathered from the sounds of grunts and gun shots at times. After a few glances up at it, he confirmed that the movie they were playing was Advent Children, odd they normally never play movies like that here. At best he'd expect a movie about old men remembering the good old days, which wasn't very satisfying.
At least there was something slightly interesting to watch. He remembered seeing Yusuke playing that thing he called a PS2 once. If he remembered correctly this was a sequel to one of the games the detective loved playing oh so much.
What was taking that girl so long in there?
He glanced at the clock now and almost had the urge to walk in on the girl and drag her out in nothing, but a towel. She wasn't the one covered in dried blood! So why was she taking so damn long in a freaking shower?! He slightly hoped -yes Hiei Jaganshi actually hoped- she didn't have another mental relapse from last night in there, for his sake of not being annoyed mostly. When he woke up that morning she was cursing the fact that they were being locked in there for the day as normal as normal could be. At times like that, he wondered if that was her true personality if her mentality was pushed back into place. If so, she wouldn't have been that annoying of a creature to be around. Then again, her mentality WASN'T pushed back into place so those normal moments were just moments of peace that he savored until the next snap of her brain.
It was then that he decided there had to be only one true reason she was taking so long in the bathroom. She was female. It was the only logical conclusion! Girls for some reason just seemed to put so much into EVERYTHING they did about hygiene and making themselves look a certain way, it was the only reason she could be taking so damn long in there. He leered at the thought of it: women…
Finally, after annoying himself with his own musings, the plastic like door pushed open, swinging like a hammer into the wall and hardly making any real sound at all against the padding. The scent of cherry blossoms and waterfalls assaulted his nose as some steam from the earlier shower billowed out slightly and the object of his musing s-that annoyed him so- walked out with her hair wrapped up in a towel. His eye twitched, she was wearing nothing, but a second towel as well.
There were only two towels in there to begin with… His eye twitched again. Why did she ALWAYS do that?!
“Shower's all yours, Hiei.” She replied casually as if she wasn't insane and wasn't wearing one of his towels on that bodice of hers. He resisted the urge to strangle her for the umpteenth time that year. He noticed that the one with the blue ridges (which was actually namely his, the nurses themselves gave it to him for some reason) was the one wrapped around her body so tightly that every curve could be noticed. If he wasn't busy grinding his teeth together he probably would have noticed how unusually curvy she was. Most females he saw here were twigs, but with this girl wearing nothing, but his towel, she was all, but that.
“… how generous.” He muttered harshly and quite sarcastically, gaining her attention from the window above their heads to look at him. “Even though my towel is wrapped around that body of yours and I'll need it.”
She smirked suddenly with her eyebrows lowering to her grey eyes, looking almost teasing. Please tell him it wasn't another mental lapse….
“I'd take it off for you, but then again if I did, I'd get the impression that you wanted to see me naked.”
“It doesn't catch my interest.” He immediately replied, turning his head away just in case she did something stupid, not even noticing his cheeks heat up.
He was slightly surprised when he heard her reply with a curt, “Good.” That was cold and threatening at the same time. Normally she'd reply with a, `that's too bad.' And go through one of her mood swings. He blinked when his vision on the TV was suddenly covered by that of a towel with pink fringes falling on top of his head.
“It's the one from my hair so I'm still decent baka.” She chided suddenly when she noticed his lack of movement.
“Hn.” He grunted, ripping the damp fabric off his hair to glare at her. Since WHEN did she call him a baka on such a regular basis? That had only been happening recently and he still wasn't used to it at all.
He blinked. Her eyes weren't their regular grey color, but instead they were a crimson stare looking straight at him with a blank look of lost expression much like his own. Red eye etchings were along the top of her eyes and her brown hair dangled down her even paler then normal skin. He almost stared just to try and figure out what happened, even a few of her hair strands were changing to a lighter color that almost looked blue. She smirked at him once more as if she had the upper hand on something -normally how she'd get during a banter he noticed, these banters of course were happening a lot more often now.-
It clicked that the eyes, paler skin and change of color might be a bit more of her demon side coming out. He had to admit, the bright crimson eyes were a lot better to look at then her swirling grey ones.
`Remember, Hiei, the closer she gets to turning into her full demon form is the closer she gets to being healed, don't ever forget that.' He frowned; did that mean she was getting closer to being healed then what he expected? But what had he done to get that solution?
“Are you going to shower or not, because I don't know about you, but I'd like to get out of this towel and into some CLOTHES, if you don't mind.” Her voice jolted him out of his thoughts as his eyes came back to focus on her. She was glaring at him, something he was sure only he was capable of doing and had one hand on her hip while the other brushed through her tangled mass of brown hair once more. Her eyes were back to grey and she looked thoroughly agitated.
He stood up slowly, holding the towel over his shoulder and muttered under his breath his usual, “Hn…”
“Hn.” She mockingly said in return, earning another glare from him as she flashed him a smirk that just said she did that on purpose to annoy him. Her hand in her hair fluttered down to the edge of the towel clinging to her firm body and she took it within the fingers. “I'm serious Hiei, I want to get dressed and if I end up having to give you a strip show just to do so I'll kill you after.”
Her hand pulled the opening off to lower the towel and he was immediately through the doors of the bathroom seeing nothing, but hearing her mocking laughter all the same. If he had half a mind he'd have figured she was getting better and was actually ENJOYING how much she annoyed him for once instead of doing it on accident. Kami, if she was THAT annoying when sane he'd figure her better off INSANE.
The bathtub was amazingly clean for having a female within it for so long. He'd have to give her that, she was meticulous when it came to keeping the area around her clean at least. He placed the towel upon the toilet back nearby and started his shower moments later. Unlike her, he had brought spare clothes into the room with him so he wouldn't have to walk out in nothing, but a towel. At times he wondered if she came out in a towel on PURPOSE as if she was trying to show herself off or something. Being that she was insane, she probably was at times, but today…
He remembered the look she gave him when she threatened to kill him… She had been serious. That wasn't one of her mood swings; he could see it in her eyes. Her red eyes. He briefly thought about his own red eyes and glanced towards the door before drawing back the shower curtain. Maybe she was only so annoying during her times of normalcy because he found himself ….-he tried to find a good word to use here- `accepting' her personality when normal. Accepting someone's personality to not deserve insults and ridicule was reason enough to be annoyed he figured.
It was then that Hiei decided he just wasn't going to think about it anymore. He had time to himself now without having to wait on her, it was best to make good use of it. Turning the water on he let himself be drenched by the warm water and just stood there to somewhat relaxing himself as the droplets dribbled down his skin.
The one thing he did not hate humans for: Showers. He rather liked keeping himself clean and it was hard to do so in Makai, the best shower they had was hot springs as the humans did far back in history.
Yet, for him, his showers did not last half as long as the insane female's did. In a matter of minutes, he had scrubbed his hair clean, washed his body thoroughly, and exited the shower in order to dry himself off. The TV had been turned off in the other room while he had been cleaning himself meaning the movie had ended or Cahadras just was not fond of computer animation. He narrowed his eyes slightly while fumbling with the white belts of his hospital clothes and felt slightly paranoid. It seemed a little too quiet outside the door…
Getting impatient to be out of the bathroom, Hiei concentrated his energy slightly into his body temperature causing his hair and skin to dry off quicker than usual. He was feeling suspicious of the silence in the other room and wanted to investigate quickly in order to make sure a mental lapse of his `patient' didn't bring him a guest to the bathroom with him. That happened a few months before while he had been IN the shower and he quite frankly did not want to have to knock the girl out again and be placed under sedation by the nurses. It was not fun.
Feeling his hair defy gravity once more with the weight of the water gone, he quickly tossed the ugly, pink towel off into a corner and made his way back to his padded room. He was still feeling cautious, but a feeling of slight relief came to him when he saw that Cahadras was just dozing off on her bed. That would be the cause of extreme silence and meant no cause for alarm or hoping she did not go into another mental craze again.
He blinked. Her clothes did not look right for some reason. Staring from the doorway, he noted that all patients within the mental home were forced to wear white. (Yes, even him, which is another reason why he longed to hurry up and get his ass out of there.) Yet, her clothes looked much like the regular clothes; they were just a different color. Red and black. Glancing about the room, he noticed that the drawers she kept most of her clothes in were still slightly open revealing quite a lot of discolored clothes. That was against dress code, if she were caught he would probably have a roommate free bedroom for a week or so.
Thinking along those lines a `vacation' from her did not sound too bad. He almost had half a mind to press the red button on his side of the bed just to get her into trouble.
“Aren't you just an every day tattle-tail...?” He stiffened slightly in realization that she had not been asleep and her mocking tone ringed into his ears. Glancing back at her while making his way towards his bed showed that she was indeed just laying there upon her cot, staring up at the ceiling as if it held some inner meaning. “Don't you know I sometimes thank my bits of insanity because it gives me the chance to be a little more like `me' without some white coat nurses interfering.”
Hiei blinked and sent her a slight glare. Why did he always feel as if she could read his mind? It was almost as if she had read his very thoughts about calling the nurses on her for his own peace of mind.
“Does that mean that cutting my face and then licking my blood is more like how you really are?” His tone was sarcastic, clearly showing that he knew she meant the dress code and not what had happened last night, but really, she left him wide open for that one… “I never thought you'd be a pervert or a kink freak…”
Her growl was his answer as she cast him a very deadly glare. Flecks of bright crimson flashed in her eyes and she hissed at him. “Since I know that you know what I meant by that, Jaganshi…” Her tone took to a very deadly hiss now as he watched her intently from his cot, “Your life has been spared just for this moment”.
“Lucky me…” He replied, clearly not giving much of a damn.
She growled in response again before turning over to let her back face him instead. Judging from her immense silence, he deduced she had decided to play the game of “pretend my room mate doesn't exist anymore”. In all truth, he did not mind that in the slightest. He just shrugged, mentally decided that was his first win of the witty banter for the day, and turned towards the trays of food that had been left behind.
As her punishment, he tossed his pillow into her head and growled in his throat. Not only did she use HIS towel earlier that day, she ate the food off HIS tray as well. The rotten little bitch!
He promptly felt his pillow fall against his head as she tossed it back at him with vengeful force. “IF you wanted to eat that you should have done so BEFORE I was out of my shower.”
He twitched his eye and mentally lived through all the many ways he could make her suffer before decapitating her head. They were all very pleasing mental thoughts and he found himself extremely exasperated. Seriously, if this kept up, it would be HE that had a mental relapse, not her!
Her mocking tone reached his ears once more and he growled again. God, she was so… so…IRRITATING!! Didn't most demon females know to treat the males as if they were their dominant halves? If so, why did she have to be so over bearing?!?! Right… her sanity was not in place just yet, but he had a feeling she would be just as annoying and overbearingly agitating if she was sane. She had rolled over again and was now giving him a satisfied smirk as if one of her many goals in life had been completed. Not really knowing how one could kill his assignment without getting corporal punishment in the process, Hiei forced himself to refrain from strangling her throat and opted for grunting and turning his back to her in agitation.
Her mocking tone came back in two simple words, “I win”.
Yup, he was going to kill her once this was all said and done with. Spirit world spy be damned.
Deciding that if he just continued sitting around like he was, he would end up losing any control that he had in the first place as a male fire apparition. Standing up, he glanced over at her, sending a glare as deadly as he could with as much loathing as he could spare. He did not like being defeated in a term of witty banter or in annoying; others and he did not even know why he seemed to be in some competition with this girl with the banter. He just knew she was insane and he must be going insane to even think it plausible for him to even argue with her in the first place. She was not worth it. He should not even be allowing himself to get so annoyed over her.
“You win nothing.” Hiei hissed out at her. “Your sanity pales in comparison to mine that alone is a win on my record.” Turning his head away, Hiei walked himself back into the bathroom in order to have some time to himself again.
He did not realize what his words caused to snap until he came out three hours later.
