Chapter 2- Worst Enemies

You woke up slowly with a pounding headache. You rubbed your head which was covered in sweat. You stumbled out of bed and into Koenma's office where you heard Hiei talking. Peering inside, you leaned on the wall trying to listen.

"She claims that the jewel is a `curse'. Could this ruby really be the miracle that we were hoping it would be?" Hiei asked someone.

"It has to be. I researched for days, it is the ruby that will answer our every wish." Koenma said. "Unless she has a different ruby…hehe…"

Everyone sweat dropped. You stumbled back into your room and peered at the Blood Ruby around your neck. It was as dark as blood as it rolled in your hand. I can make a wish? Any wish I want? You looked at it some more but then you saw a shadow over you. Everyone was around you. You grasped the jewel in your hands.

"So you're awake." Koenma said. "Good morning."

"…Good morning." You said.

You couldn't stand not knowing what Koenma was going to do with the jewel once he had it.

"Koenma, once you have hold of this ruby, what are you going to use it for? If you're going to use this to extend your powers and maybe even grow taller…then forget it!" You demanded.

Koenma glared at you for a moment, he then transformed into his teenage form leaving you a little wide eyed.

"We are not going to use that for those kind of purposes, our team is already strong as it is. We want to bring someone back whom we've lost. Her death was tragic, and so we want to bring her back with that blood ruby you have. Now if you can hand it over…"

"Who is this person you want to bring back from the dead?" You asked still holding the ruby.

Koenma brought his hand back. "She was a very special person to us…A very important team mate of ours you can say. But she was also a dear friend to us too. She is not evil, if that's what you think."

You thought about it for a moment. "Fine." You said handing him the ruby.

"Thank you, ____." Koenma said. He observed the ruby and placed it in his pocket. "Welcome to the team, Miss ____."

You looked around, peering at each person before you. They don't look so bad…I might enjoy staying with them I guess.

"Okay everyone, you are free until further notice." Koenma said stepping into his office. "I have some important issues to examine."

Koenma closed the door behind him, as everyone stared at you. This started to really bother you.

"What are you all looking?!" You yelled.

Everyone sweatdropped and stepped back a little bit.

"A little feisty, isn't she?" Yusuke whispered to Kuwabara.

"I heard that!" You shouted at Yusuke.

"Hn. I'm wasting my time listening to you all." Hiei said walking out the exit.

"Yes, I think I will go as well." Kurama said, as he followed.

"Man, I think I'm gonna train a lil bit…" Yusuke said, positioning his hands behind his head.

Then it was just you and Kuwabara. There was a VERY awkward silence. You started glaring at him.

"Hey Yusuke! WAIT UP!" Kuwabara said running out the door.

"Great. They've all abandoned me…And I'm the freaking guest!" You said to yourself.

You walked back into your room. Opening the closet, you noticed that you were still in your bath robe. You saw your clothes folded and washed on a table next to your bed. After changing into clean clothes, you walked out the door yourself. Suddenely, you felt a sharp pain from your stomach.

"Ahh!" You shouted.

You held your stomach and leaned on the wall. You unbuttoned your jacket and lifted your shirt up a littl bit. There was a blood stained cloth around your stomach. Oh, shit. It hurts like hell!

Then you could see a figure coming from the sky. It was a woman. She rode on some kind of object that looked like a boat paddle. She landed and greeted you cheerfully.

"Ohh. You're awake. Hello ____." Botan said.

"Umm, hi." You said as you looked at your bleeding stomach. "…Help."

""Ohh my goodness!"

[inside your room…]

"That was a really nasty scratch you have there, ___." Botan said.

"Ohh…yes, it is." You said shortly.

"Umm, do you mind me asking how you got it?" Botan asked.

"…I do mind." You said.

There was an awkward silence. You lifted your shirt as Botan unwrapped the blood stained cloth from your stomach. You winced as she peeled the last of it off. Then she took out some new cloth, and wrapped it around your stomach. She took a safety pin to hold it all in place.

"There you go. I guess you can go do what ever you want now…just don't cause any trouble." Botan joked.

You stared at her blankly. Botan sweat-dropped. She took her first aid kit and placed it in the closet in your room. She stood by the door way for a second, as if waiting for something to happen. Nothing did. So she sighed and continued walking.

"Botan." You said.

She bounced back into the room.

"Yes?" She said happily.

"…Thanks." You said.

"No problem." Botan said. "See you."

Then she walked out the door.

"Yea, see you." You said.

You stood up from sitting on your bed and walked outside. It was very sunny and there was a breeze. Perfect weather. You decided to walk around and explore a bit. You turned a corner and you saw Yusuke punching and kicking in the air. Is he training? You watched him a little more. Wow…he's fast. You started walking again, and then you eyed Kurama. You saw him sitting on the steps of the temple you stayed in. He looked like he was in deep thought. You stared at him as the wind blew in his hair. (drools) You started walking towards the back of the temple curious what was behind it. You were about to turn a corner when you saw a glimpse of Hiei with his shirt off. You blushed as you quickly hid behind the wall again, Once again you turned around to look at Hiei.

"Ahh!" You screamed. Hiei's face was inches from yours. He was glaring at you.

"What are you looking at?" Hiei barked.

"Umm, I uhh…" You babbled.

"I don't have time for your nonsense. I'm going back to training." Hiei said.

"Wait!" You yelled.

"What?"

"What am I supposed to do here then?" You asked.

"Go talk to a wall." Hiei said getting impatient.

"But-"

Hiei couldn't take it anymore. He was going to burst.

"Look! I'm NOT your babysitter! So just LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE." Hiei yelled.

"Why are you so mean to me?!" You screamed back.

"BECAUSE I HATE YOU!"

Tears started forming under your eyes.

"But last night…I thought you…"

"Yea? WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG." Hiei shouted

Without thinking, you slapped him right across the face. Hiei was so shocked he didn't say anything, he just gaped at you.

"Some guardian you are! Jeez, why couldn't it be Kurama or Yusuke or even Kuwabara who rescued me! You're nothing but a selfish, up-tight BASTARD!" You yelled back at him.

Hiei finally had the chance to speak, but you were already stomping away. He just went back to training.

"Bitch."

You turned the corner and sat on the steps of the temple next to Kurama.

"Good for nothing…"

"Don't mind him…he just has anger problems sometimes. You will adjust to it."

You turned to look at Kurama. He was smiling. Why is he smiling?! You wiped the tears from your eyes.

"How can anyone put up with him?" You asked.

"Hiei is a mystery, but he's just the type that doesn't want anyone in his business. Just keep your distance, he'll warm up to you." Kurama said calmly. He stood up.

"How do you know?" You asked.

Kurama chuckled.

"I've known Hiei for a long time. Trust me."

He started walking away. You looked to your side, and there next to you, was a rose. You sniffed it, and smiled.

"…What did I ever see in Hiei in the first place?" You asked no one in particular.
