Love Doesn't Always Triumph
Chapter 13: A promise

------------------------

Down the steps she ran, jumping the last one. Giggling into the phone, she said, “Hang on a sec Ti, let me ask.” She turned around to her mother and father. Her mother with long deep purple locks, almost black, and eyes so deep, they looked bottomless. Her father, black hair, and brown eyes. “Mama, Papa? Can I ask you guys a question?”

Her mother smiled. “You just did dear, but you may ask another.” She set down her book.

“There's this party, I was wondering-” She shuffled her feet around.

“Where is it, when is it, who are you going with, how are you getting there, and how long?” Her father asked before she could finish her sentence.

“Um, it's at someone's house tonight, I was going to go with the gang, and it's an all night party.”

“Mmmhmmm, all nighter huh? I don't think so.” Her dad pulled the newspaper back up and hid his face.

She growled. “Papa, why not? I'm responsible! I'm 15, nearly 16, I'm practically an adult! You guys are going away for your anniversary tonight, you want me to be here all alone overnight? Come on Papa, this isn't fair; I should be allowed to go! All my other friends are allowed to go!”

“You're not all your other friends. Tell me, is there going to be drinking at this party of yours?”

“I don't know, probably. But I'm responsible, I'll be careful, I won't drink!”
“That's right, because you're not going.”

She stomped her foot on the ground. “That's not fair! Mama—”

Her mother cut her off. “You're fighting a losing battle sweetie. I can't let you go to a party where there's a chance that my baby girl can get hurt. Our final answer is no, and there's no changing our mind on this. Now tell Tia that you can't make it, your parents said `no'.”

She huffed. “That's so not fair!” She put her phone back up to her ear. “Wha-? No, can't go. Yeah, I know that it's the party of the year, but the rents said no.” Her parents sighed and rolled their eyes. “Yeah, I'll talk to you tomorrow, I know, I guess I'll just have to miss it. Yeah…yeah…. mmmhmmm…yup, bye.” She clicked the phone off and glared at her parents. “I hope you guys are happy, you officially ruined my social life for the next few months!”

“That's our job, now go to your room, you're grounded for the next two weeks for that little outburst.” Her dad flipped a page of the newspaper.

“But, that's not fair! Mam-”

“I agree with your father on this one dear, go to your room.”

She balled her fists. “Fine! But just so you know! I HATE YOU BOTH! You're the worst parents on earth, just die and leave me alone, I'd be much happier!” she turned on her heal and stomped up the stairs.

“She'll love us again come time for new clothes.” Her father said.

Her mother giggled. “She always seems to swing back.” She glanced at the clock. “We'd better get going, we don't want to miss our reservations do we?”

“Mmm. Go make sure that she knows that we're leaving.”

She stood up. “Yup, you go warm up the car.” She went up the stairs and knocked on the girl's door. “Sweetie, we're getting ready to leave.” She just heard a grunt on the other side of the door. “Ok, we'll see you tomorrow afternoon.”

Her parents left. After about an hour, the phone rang. She figured that it was probably Tia with news on how wonderful the party was, she grabbed it and answered with an annoyed force. “What?” She growled.

“Muso-san?”

“Uh…my parents are out on a drive right now, can I take a message?” She rummaged around a bit for some paper and a pen.

“I'm looking for Lisha Muso-san.”

“Oh, then yes, that's me.”

“Would you please come to the hospital, your parents have been hit in an accident.” She dropped the phone and fell back to the wall. “Muso-san?” was called from the phone a few times.

She picked it back up. “Y-yes, I'll be there as fast as I can.”

“Goodnight Muso-san.”

“Y-yeah, goodnight.” She hung up the phone and then dialed a different number. “I-is Lindsay there? … Hey, um, could you come and get me, I need a lift to the hospital…no, I'm fine…yeah…thanks…ja.” She dropped the phone to the ground and ran down the steps. The doorbell rang and her friend brought her to the hospital. She arrived too late, both her parents were gone, she had no one left.

She fell to her knees and started sobbing, Lindsay tried to offer her as much comfort as she could, but it didn't work. She felt a sharp pain in her stomach, like having a knife jammed into her.

Lisha's eyes opened quickly. “'Rama, w-wake up, please!” she cried, shaking Kurama's shoulder sharply. “Kurama, please wake up.”

He slowly rolled over and managed out a “wazzamatter?”

She flung herself into his arms and started crying. “My parents `Rama, they died! They're dead, gone, I'll never see them again, and they died thinking that I hated them! Kurama, I'm a horrible daughter! I'll be a horrible mother! I-”

Kurama put a hand over her mouth. “Lisha, calm down, it was just a nightmare,”

“No, `Rama, it was real, very real, it-”

He pulled her into a warm embrace. “Lish, relax, it was nearly four years ago, I'm sure they knew that you didn't truly hate them. You'll be a wonderful mother, I know it. Now stop crying, you'll be ok.” He rubbed down the back of her head in a calming manor.

She relaxed in his grip. “I-I know, but I never got to tell them that I was sorry.”

“We'll visit their graves tomorrow and pay our respects, ok?”

She nodded into his shoulder. “Yeah, hey `Rama?”

“Hmm?”

“Promise me something,”

“Anything.”

“If anything happens to me, promise me that you'll stay and take care of our children.”

“Lish-“

“Please.” Her voice became more desperate and her hands fisted into Kurama's shirt.

“Of course,”

“Promise me `Rama!” She leaned back off his chest.

“Ok, I promise, if something were to happen to you, I'll take care of any and all of our children.” He smiled gently, setting his hand on her cheek and giving her a gentle, comforting kiss on her forehead.

She laid back down on his chest. “Thank you.”

“Of course.”

She slowly eased back into sleep.

“You see that Hi?” Azriel asked from a lower branch.

“Of course I did Yame, you think that I'm blind?” Hiei growled.

“Awww, is big bad Hiei feeling sex deprived?” She teased, getting only a growl in response. “Well, you have to wait until I'm out of heat, I don't want any children right now.”

“That's not what's bothering me.”

“Oh?” she turned her head to the side. “Then what's got your undies in a bunch?”

Hiei growled again. “Her parents' death, that was nearly four years ago, and now she's just realizing and accepting it…this doesn't bode well.”

“I know, let's just hope that Kurama can keep the darkness hidden, her power set free could be dangerous.”

“And it will be even more powerful if she kills herself.”

“Let's do all that we can to prevent this, I don't want my little sis to have an unexpected leave from this world.” She leaned against the trunk of the tree.

“I know Yame, I know.”
