[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Hello, here’s my update. It took a really long time but I got it. I blame my sister’s obsession with myspace. So enjoy
Disclaimer: I don’t own Yu Yu Hakusho only the last 6 DVD’s of the last season, and this fan fiction.
This story has a new ending, I don’t know if it can still be considered an AU. I’ll let you all decide when the time comes.
NIGHTMARES, chapter 2
Dark encounter, Strange dreams.

Kurama leaned against the door and fought the rush of anger that had so often surged forward when he encountered Karasu. Just as he slipped off his shoes Shiori called him from the kitchen.
“How was your first day Shuichi?”
“Fine.” lied Kurama as he gave his mother a fake smile and a kiss on the cheek.” The teachers are good and the students are friendly.” ‘Well aren’t we full of lies Shuichi.’
“Then why did you slam the door?”
“I ran into a very unfriendly person is all, I’m fine now.” Kurama caught the worried look on his mothers face.
“ It wasn’t the new neighbors was it? That young boy makes me nervous.”
“Why?” his mother frowned.
“ I’m not sure, It’s probably just my imagination.”
(Flashback)
“Leave me the hell alone you crazy son of a bi--”

“Shuichi, come down from the clouds.” Kurama’s eyes regained focus and he found his mother smiling at him. “Have something you want to tell me Shuichi? Did you meet someone special at school today?”
“Sorry mother but no I didn’t.”
“I’m just joking with you Shuichi, I know you’d tell me if you did.” Kurama smiled.
“Would you mind if I went for a walk? I want to meet the new neighbor on nicer terms.” At his mothers questioning look he elaborated. “I mean when I met him there was this jerk nearby so I didn’t really get to talk to him.”
“Sure Shuichi, I’ll just start dinner.” With a smile Kurama left to meet the cranky kid next door.

Kurama calmed himself as he stood at his next door neighbors door. ‘You can do this Kurama, just relax.’ Wait, why was he so flustered? He was just going to ask his next door neighbor to join his family for dinner, nothing to be nervous about. With new confidence he knocked on the door.
2 seconds. . . .No answer.
4 seconds. . . .Nothing.
6 seconds. . . .Nada.
Kurama knocked one last time. From behind the door shuffles and curses could be heard.
“ I thought I told you to leave me the hell- -” The kid stopped at seeing Kurama. “What the hell do you want?”
“Hello, I wanted to see if maybe you and your family would join me and my family for dinner.” Kurama smiled the most carefree smile he had. Short stuff didn’t seem to notice.
“Sorry, I’m the only one living here and I’m kind of busy so-”
“Me and my mom would really like for your company,” Big puppy eyes trembling lower lip, “Please. . .”
Hiei was almost disgusted, the guy was resorting to such desperate means as to act like a girl. If he didn’t go he’d have the image of the red head pouting in his head all night.
“Fine, just stop doing that already, shesh.”
Kurama smiled, ‘Works every time.’

Kurama led Hiei through his house to the kitchen where Shiori stood at the counter preparing dinner.
“Kaasan?”
A surprised Shiori gasped and spun around to exclaim, “ Shuichi you startled me.” she said while holding her hand to her chest. When she saw that son was not alone, she smiled and said, “Oh, you must be our new neighbor. I’m Shoiri.”
Hiei acknowledged her with a slight nod he replied, “Hiei.”
“Do you need help with dinner, mother?”
Shiori smiled and shook her head and said, “No you two go on upstairs, I’ll come up to tell you when it’s ready.” Kurama flashed an enigmatic smile, he grabbed his friend’s wrist and pulled him upstairs.
While Shiori returned to her cooking she thought, “Shuichi has taken a liking to that boy hasn’t he.’

When the two boys got to Kurama’s room, Kurama let go of Hiei’s wrist.
“Well here we are, “ said Kurama spreading his arms with a nervous smile, “nothing special here, just a normal bedroom. So, what classes are you taking?”
Hiei shrugged and leaned awkwardly against the red heads desk. “Oh you can sit if you like,” he said gesturing to the chair beside him. Nodding Hiei sat in the chair. “So?”
“Don’t know.”
Kurama frowned and replied, “How could you not know?”
“I just don’t, I didn’t have a choice in the matter.”
“Why not?”
Hiei watched Kurama position himself across him on the bed.
“Hm.”
‘Okay, it’s obvious he doesn’t want to talk about it.’
“Is there anything that you miss from home? Family, friends, maybe a girlfriend?”
“Why do you ask so many questions? I don’t have much family, I didn’t have any friends and I didn’t have a girlfriend. The girls I knew were all half retarded anyways.”
‘I think that’s the most I’ve heard him talk since I’ve met him.’ Kurama thought as he drew up a leg beneath him warily, Hiei watched him carefully.
As boredom got the better of him he turned in the swivel chair to see the redhead’s desk littered with papers. Gathering them he turned back to Kurama and noticed that they were in fact math notes mixed with funky drawings.
Foxes and little demons danced around math equations and formulas. ‘My fox’
Something clicked in his mind. ”Fox,” Kurama looked up from studying his floor “It suits you.”
“Really?” Kurama smiled “You think so?” he glanced at the notes,” I suppose it does. Do you have a nickname?” Hiei shook his head. “Well it doesn’t seem fair that you can give me a nickname when you don’t have one. I’ll just have to give you one won’t I?” Hiei smirked, he knew that this one was a complete flirt. ‘Stupid fox.’
‘I love his eyes, I’ve never seen eyes that color before and he gets vicious when threatened, what does he remind me of?’ “Does it have to be an actual animal?” Hiei shrugged. ‘he reminds me of a dragon,’ Kurama smiled ‘ a very small dragon’
Kurama could see him as a baby dragon trying desperately to destroy a city but being squished under a pile of rubble. He couldn’t help but laugh. Hiei’s eyes narrowed. “What the hell are you laughing at?”
“Nothing.” Kurama decided not to reveal the nickname. It suited the kid a little to well. Not only were dragons beautiful but unattainable. Solitary, and Hiei seemed the type to prefer to be alone. ”I can’t think of anything as defensively vicious as you that’s also as small.”
“Don’t make fun of my height baka Kitsune.” Hiei hissed at the smiling redhead. The Jaganshi hated it when he was made fun of. “It’s not my fault I’m short, I blame my bastard of a father.” Kurama backed off, not wanting to scare off the only person he’d talked to in forever that wasn’t a teacher. He’d cut off so many friends to concentrate on school. It was nice to actually talk to someone. “Sorry Hiei, I didn’t mean to offend.” Kurama saw something dangle from the fire starter’s right sleeve, “What’s that on your arm?”
Hiei looked down to see that his bandages were falling off. He smirked.
“Want to see?” The dark edge in his voice made Kurama nervous, the fox nodded carefully. “First tell me what you were thinking of when you asked me about the animals.”
“Huh?”
“About my nickname. You asked me if it had to be a real animal, what were you thinking of?”
Kurama looked surprised, had it been obvious that he didn’t want to say?
“A dragon.” Hiei smirked and rolled up his sleeve. Kurama was to say the least surprised when he saw that his arm was completely bandaged. Still smirking Hiei untied the bound arm and began unraveling the white cloth. A purple tail emerged.
Kurama watched silently in awe as the inked dragon was released out of it’s cage. When Hiei reached his hand, he pulled off the last bit of bandage. The mid section of the fire-serpent was so dark it was almost black, and the eyes of it were wonderfully done with three eyes, two red and one violet.
“Can I touch it?” Kurama asked innocently, not knowing that his mother was standing outside the cracked door.

Shoiri couldn’t believe what she was hearing. What did Shuichi want to touch and why? Strange images and worst case scenarios ran through her mind. The worst being the most perverted. After a moment of these unusual thoughts Shoiri gathered herself and knocked on the door. She proceeded inside with a light tone;
“Boys, dinner is ready.”

“Does it still hurt?” Kurama asked as he traced his fingers along the consistent dragon that spiraled along his company’s arm.
“I’ve felt worse.” Hiei said as Shoiri’s voice was heard from the hallway.
Hiei watched as Kurama’s mother stepped hesitantly into the room. Seeing Hiei’s bare arm she crossed the room and lifted his wrist. Starring her in the face was a purple spiraling dragon.
“ Oh my Hiei this is very beautiful,” Shoiri commented in a hushed tone of voice. After a moment She shook her head in a dismissing sort of way, “Dinner’s ready so hurry down stairs.” Giving Hiei back his wrist she quietly exited the room.
Kurama and Hiei stared at the doorway leading to the hall in silence blinking. Finally Hiei, turning to his new neighbor, raised an eye brow. In response Kurama merely shrugged before standing to stretch.
“Well I suppose we should head downstairs huh?”
@_@ I can’t feel my fingers!
~After dinner~
“I suppose I’ll see you at school then,” said Kurama with a slight smile.
“Well Hiei, It was nice having you over. Please do come again sometime.” called Shoiri from the kitchen. Hiei nodded to the woman before walking closer to the door. Turning to the fox he spoke quietly.
“Tomorrow then.“ before facing the quiet darkness that awaited him outside.
“Hiei,” the redhead called after him. The said person paused mid step and turned his head slightly, “will you join me for lunch tomorrow?”
‘Beautiful.’ he thought before remembering himself and giving a curt nod.
Kurama slowly closed the door and leaned against it for a moment before heading into the kitchen. After insisting that he should finish the dishes, he shooed his mother upstairs and cleaned the kitchen. He then said his goodnights and trudged to his room.
(boring huh?)He changed into some clean boxers and a shirt before climbing into bed, it took only seconds for him to fall asleep. (’bout to get really interesting!)
