Chapter 2 - Troublemakers
When the boys left the next morning, I pretended to be asleep until the girls came in. After eating breakfast, I scratched at the door. "Do you want out?" Keiko asked before walking over and opening the door. Running out the door, I went downstairs to the lobby and scratched at the door there. One of the clerks saw me and let me out with a smile. I ran outside, found the boys scent and followed it at a run. About a half-hour later I heard them around the corner.
When I finally found them I leapt up on Hiei's shoulder, then jumped to Kurama's shoulder and stayed there. Kurama started and then smiled, and shook his head. "You were supposed to stay with the girls Myst." Kurama scolded. I just wagged my tail, brushing his shoulder.
Yusuke shrugged, "We can't take her back now; we'll have to take her with us." Kurama nodded in agreement.
When we got to the factory I jumped off Kurama's shoulder and sat on the ground. `I am not going into that building voluntarily,' I thought to myself.
"Are you staying here, Myst?" Kurama asked. I cocked my head at him. They shrugged and went inside. Quickly growing bored, I got up and was walked around. My eyes widened in excitement when my nose picked up a familiar smell.
`Hey wait, this is her scent!" Barking excitedly, I followed her scent slowly. In response, the boys came running out.
"What is it?" Yusuke asked. I started running, still following her scent. Stopping, I looked back, and barked, trying to get them to follow me.
"She wants us to follow her." Kurama stated.
`Duh,' I thought and continued running.
When it started to get dark, Kurama stopped everyone. "This will be a good place to sleep tonight, come here Myst." I turned and pranced back, watching them get ready for bed. Hiei jumped up in a tree, Kurama leaned against another one, and Yusuke and Haruki just flopped down and lay on the ground. I curled up underneath one next to Yusuke and quickly fell asleep.
"Do bad guys like abandoned factories or something?" Yusuke wondered the next day around lunch.
Kurama laughed. "Must be." I pranced up to the door and sniffed then scratched at it. When the door opened suddenly, it startled me and I darted behind the boys. A man stood there, staring at me.
He shouted over his shoulder, "Hey guys, that other fox is here." Two more men appeared behind him and studied us.
I pricked up my ears. `Other? Then I was right, she is here!'
"Come on guys; let's get her for the boss." They started forward toward me and went to attack the boys to get to me; of course the boys didn't really appreciate that and quickly took care of them. Running past them, I went down the hall towards where the familiar scent was coming from. The boys caught up to me just as I paused in front of a door. When Kurama opened it I darted in and up to the black fox laying at the end of the room. She got up and we started jumping around like lunatics. I looked into her sometimes mischievous crimson eyes and smiled. "That's where I saw those eyes before, but hers are friendlier."
<Hey Kiara, I thought I would never see you again!!> I told her joyfully.
<Yeah, me too!> She looked over at the boys who showed no signs of hearing us. <Can't they hear us?> She asked me.
<Nope, the only telepathic one is the short one in black, but he is telepathic on a different level.> I assured her. <They think I'm just a fox and I'm content to let it stay that way, so don't go and spoil anything.>
<Ok.> she answered, her glowing red eyes sparkling.
The boys walked over and broke her chain and then Kiara and I got into a little playful tussle.
<Who are those guys you're with?> She asked a little later as we sprawled on the ground, resting.
<I'll introduce you later, but they're looking for Drake.> She looked at me with wide eyes. <No joke Kiara.>
"Umm, shouldn't we be looking for Drake?" Yusuke pointed out. I shot an `I-told-ya-so' look at Kiara and pranced after the boys. Rolling her eyes, Kiara followed. After we checked out the entire factory and found nothing, we headed home.
When we got there Keiko and the girls were really mad at me. "Myst, you were supposed to stay with us!" They scolded. I put my ears back and my tail between my legs, causing Kiara to growl at Keiko. Keiko looked really surprised. "Who's this?"
"We don't know, we found her in another factory and Myst seems to know her." Keiko knelt and looked at her collar.
"Her name tag says `Kiara'."
"Kiara it is then." Kurama said. I showed Kiara where I slept as Yusuke got another pallet for her.
<We sleep on the floor?> Kiara asked.
<Its better then the factory.> I pointed out. She shrugged. <Come on. Let's go make some trouble.> I said with a mischievous glint in my eye. Smiling evilly, Kiara nodded and followed me to the kitchen, where Kurama was making dinner. Jumping up on his left leg, I made him stumble into Kiara who was on his other side. When he tried to avoid stepping on her, he fell, spilling some food on the floor. We dove for it, ate it, and ran out of the room when Kurama tried to grab us. Running into Haruki's room, we scared the living daylights out of his cat and were again chased out of the room. <Now we have to be quiet, and I mean QUIET.> I told Kiara. She nodded and we slunk into Hiei's room. On the count of 3 we jumped onto his stomach, knocking the wind out of him. He got really mad and drew his sword. Running out of his room, we hid in the next room we came to. When Hiei left we looked around and saw Yusuke putting gel in his hair. Grinning evilly, I jumped up on the desk, knocking the gel on the floor.
Yusuke yelled "MYST!!!" and grabbed me by the collar. Kiara ran out of his room and hid under the table in the kitchen.
Kurama came up behind her and grabbed her by her tail. "OK, you guys are going outside until you calm down." Kurama walked over and, still scowling, gave me to Kurama. Kurama took us outside, put us down, and went back inside. Giving Kiara a delighted smile, we ran around together in the forest for the first time in years.
<Hey, why don't we change into our human forms? We can now that we're together.> Kiara pointed out.
<Oh yeah, I forgot!!> We stood facing each other and pushed a small button on the collar. The button turned the collar off and allowed us to assume our human form. I started stretching, brushing my long, silver hair out of my face as I did so. "Man, it feels good to be in this form again."
"Yeah it does." Kiara agreed, tying her black hair back into a pony-tail. She flipped it back over her shoulder, the muted sunlight picking up the dark red highlights in her hair. "Let's go."
After about 2 hours of exploring the forest an idea popped into my head. "Hey, I know how we can get back inside and have some fun at the same time."
"How??" Kiara asked. I leaned over a whispered into her ear. Her expression grew delighted and she nodded furiously.
We walked back to the hotel and walked up to our room. I knocked on the door and Kurama answered. "Yes?"
"Are you the ones who have to two foxes?" I asked.
"Yes," Kurama answered slowly.
"They're causing trouble. Would you go and get them? They're in the forest." Kurama sighed and nodded. He came out of the room and shut the door behind him, making his way down the hallway. Following him back into the forest, we waited until he was in a particularly dark place.
"Hold it right there." Kiara demanded, drawing her sword. Kurama saw her sword glinting in the moonlight and froze. Kiara grinned wickedly, her razor-sharp teeth showing in the dim light. "Give us your money or die." <Go around to his other side, Myst.> She sent to me, I nodded and did what she said.
"You'd better listen to her." I growled in my best bad-guy voice, trying not to laugh.
"I don't have any." Kurama answered calmly. I just couldn't help myself, I burst out laughing. Kiara also started to giggle.
"I'm sorry, it was just too much." I staggered away, laughing, and Kiara did the same thing, leaving a very confused Kurama in our wake. When we got far enough away and regained our composure, we sheathed our swords, changed back, and re-found Kurama. He still had a confused look on his face.
He saw us and grabbed us by the scruff of our necks. "Troublemakers." He muttered. He carried us back to the hotel and put us down. "Behave you two." He scolded us. We just wagged our tails and went over to our beds to sleep, tired out from our little escapade. The next morning we heard him talking about it.
Yusuke asked, "What did they look like?"
Kurama shook his head, "It's was took dark to see."
I smiled at Kiara; <It was SO much fun to do that.>
Kiara laughed, <Yeah it was.>
"We have to continue looking for Drake." Kurama said the next day.
"We'll leave after breakfast," Yusuke said with a sigh. They let us come with them this time, knowing that I'd probably just escape and follow them again. Killing a deer the next day brought us praise from the boys. After taking all the meat they could, they left the rest there and trudged on. Kiara found Drake's scent and followed it, with me and the boys following her.
A cold laugh filled the air the next day around eight. "You scum have gotten in my way. You will pay with your lives."
