Chapter 3: Shadow of the Volcano

"Hey, Kuwabara, you're right! That chick does look like Hiei! I wonder who she is?" Yusuke asked.
"I guess we'll fight out, Yusuke," Kurama said.
"Hm," Hiei grunted.
Down in the ring, Koto and Tero stepped into the arena.
"All right, fans, its time for the second fight of this team-battle! And the fighters have entered the ring!"
"It's Isy from Team Zhou, and Hitomi from Team Honoo! Let's begin!"
What Team Urameshi had said was true. Isy did look astoundingly like Hiei. She wore her spiky black hair in the same style, except longer. She also had a Jagan Eye, just like the short fire demon. She dressed almost exactly like Hiei did during the battle with the Saint Beasts, except with a black tank top under the black cloak.
Isy narrowed her crimson eyes as she stared at Hitomi. "I'm afraid my master wants this fight to end as soon as possible, so I'm going to end it now."
"What are you saying? That I'm going to lose before the fight is even started."
"Basically, yes."
In a second, Isy was directly in front of Hitomi. She kicked him into the air, leapt up to his level, and roundhouse kicked him into the wall outside of the ring. Shards of stone exploded in a cloud of dust when Hitomi flew through the wall.
Up in the stands all the demons stood in shock. They hadn't seen a fight end that quickly since the Hiei-Makintarou fight last time Team Urameshi entered the tournament. To see a fighter with similar speed was unnerving for both the crowd and Team Urameshi.
"Um . . ." Koto `said'.
"Uh, should I start the count?" Tero asked.
"I don't know if we should bother. I don't think anyone could survive a hit like that."
"He's alive, Cat Demon. He's merely unconscious. I didn't even use full strength. He should regain consciousness in an hour or two. Don't worry," Isy said, her voice the same cold tone Hiei always used. She hopped out of the ring and returned to her team's area.
"Well, I guess the next fighters should enter the ring," Koto looked, for once, flustered by the surprising turn of events. One more win for Team Zhou and the team-battle was over.
Tao slowly made his way into the ring.
The massive demon, Eforitarus, strode into the ring as well. His black hair swayed on his broad back. His blue flesh bulged with muscle. A massive sword was strapped to his back.
Tao cracked his knuckles. He went about stretching as Koto and Tero went through the introduction.
"Well, the next two fighters are in the ring! Let's get started!" Koto yelled.
"From Team Zhou comes the team leader, Tao-Zhou! And from Team Honoo comes their team leader, Eforitarus! Let's go!"
Eforitarus drew his mighty Scimitar. Tao looked at him and drew his blade, a sword looking like a straightened Katana, or a lengthened Ninja-to.
"Well, little creature," said Eforitarus. "I see that you have mighty warriors. But Yumi and Hitomi weren't half as strong as me combined! I'm going to turn you into a bloody smear!"
The crowd cheered upon the mention of bloodshed. Both Yumi and Hitomi had been spared from Death. The masses sought blood and death, and Eforitarus had promised it.
"Stop talking, Fire Demon, and fight like a man.
Eforitarus bellowed indignantly and charged the smaller Shadow Stalker. Eforitarus had about 10 inches and 100 pounds on Tao. One would assume the warrior was about to be crushed.
However, Tao blocked with the Zhou-family blade, and he held strong, the sound of metal-upon-metal ringing through the stadium.
Tao smelled the sulfur upon Eforitarus' breath and saw flames burning in his pure amber eyes.
Tao swung his sword under Eforitarus' and brought the blade over the Scimitar, bringing Eforitarus' sword down with a cut. As Tao swung his sword down, he brought up his leg, kicking the Fire Demon in the head. Eforitarus' head wrenched around, black blood mixed with spit spraying from his mouth.
The massive blue creature staggered to the side, massaging his jaw. Blood trickled past the gums and down his chin. The crowd cheered at the sign of bloodshed.
Tao rushed Eforitarus, his blade held at a slightly upward angle from his side. He leapt up, his sword held high above his head, and swung down in a mighty arc. Eforitarus quickly blocked. Tao let loose a furious barrage of sword-strokes. Eforitarus managed to block every one.
Tao dropped to the ground. The two lashed out at the same time, and they locked swords in a death struggle. Despite being the smaller warrior, Tao didn't falter for a second.
Tao quickly swung his blade in a circle, freeing the swords. Eforitarus lost one hand from the hilt.
Tao quickly lashed out, slicing through the flesh of Eforitarus' wrist.
As soon as Tao's blade left his skin, Eforitarus' hand snapped open, his sword clattering on the ground. He quickly gripped the wound, more black blood pouring from the gash.
The huge creature suddenly started to laugh madly.
"Have I already driven you so mad, Eforitarus?"
"No, no. I am still quite sane. But now I can use my strongest techniques!" Eforitarus snatched his sword up from the ground. He smeared his hand in his own blood.
"That's just not right. Why are you spreading your blood on your hand?" Tao questioned.
"Because, I am no ordinary Fire Demon. I am a certain kind of Fire Demon. I am a Magma Demon! A Volcano Demon! I am . . .a Vorshekai!"
"A Vorshekai?" Tao asked.
"A Vorshekai is a Volcano Demon. Besides obvious Fire Demon abilities, our blood has certain properties. I am now going to show you one!" Eforitarus spread the blood on his hand on his sword. Upon being touched, the bloody edge glowed a bright crimson. "What you see happening right now is my blood, as well as the edge of my sword, turning into magma! Now, they sword with truly cause pain. Fear the power of the Magma Blade!"
Eforitarus rushed at the momentarily stunned Tao. The Shadow Stalker barely had time to jump back. The very tip of Eforitarus' sword crossed Tao's shirt, causing the fabric to scorch.
"How do you like the Magma Blade? Are you enjoying the intense heat it radiates? Or would you like another taste!" Eforitarus rushed again, but this time, Tao sufficiently dodged.
Eforitarus kept swinging his massive blade, while Tao continued to evade. Eforitarus grew even more frantic as Tao continued to evade. The blue demon started snarl and growl, his rage building up inside of him.
"I am tired of this! It's time I crushed you!" Eforitarus bellowed as he had Tao in a corner. "It's time to use my super attack!" Eforitarus dipped his fingers in the blood that had flowed from his arm wound. He went on to smear it over the entire sword. The huge blade glowed a sinister crimson. Smoke curled from the blade. Eforitarus brought the sword around behind his head. "Now, when I swing my blade, you will be incinerated! Fear the power of the Volcano! The Volcanic Blade Strike!" Eforitarus brought his other hand up to the hilt. "Die!"
Eforitarus swung down with all the strength in his body. The crimson energy hovered in the air, forming a huge arc. As the Scimitar crashed into the floor, the arc turned into a blast of energy that fired towards Tao. The warrior merely stood there, as if embracing death, his arms level with his sword, and his legs crouched. His shadow disappeared, his cloak the last thing to burn away.
"That blast probably would have killed me, if you had hit me." Tao was crouched upon Eforitarus' back his sword raised. "But, you missed. I however, won't."
Eforitarus whipped his head around just as Tao stabbed down. The blade stabbed through the blue demon's neck, the sword rushing through until it reached the hilt. Blood exploded from the wound the blade had cut.
Eforitarus dropped his Scimitar and tried to reach up for the sword, but his hands fell limp. Tao hopped off the creatures broad back as Eforitarus feel to his knees. At last, the creature fell onto its stomach. Tao's sword was pushed up, black blood running onto Eforitarus' back.
"Wow, fans! Was that a fight or what?! Did all that blood make up for what happened in the last fight?!" Tero roared into his microphone.
"Well, it appears that it's game, set, and match for Team Zhou. It's all over but the funeral for Team Honoo, literally for their captain. Team Zhou advances to the next round! We hope that you all will make it, but stay put, for in 20 minutes the next battle will start!"
The crowd cheered at the prospect of more death.
"Damn, Tao is powerful," Yusuke said, after being silent for so long. "He used the same trick you did against Makintarou! I hope I don't have to fight him!" Yusuke laughed in his usual style.
"Hm. Tao has gotten stronger. He wasn't that fast last time. But I must tell you, Spirit Detective, that he is even more powerful. He was barely trying against that Demon. He could sense that Eforitarus was weak. Don't get too cocky."
"Hey, Shorty, Urameshi has probably gotten a thousand times stronger than when we last saw him. I bet he could easily defeat that Tao guy."
"Hm. I doubt it, oaf."
Kurama and Himeko had remained silent during this entire time.
"Hiei, Kuwabara, I'm sure you both have valid points," Himeko said.
"Yes, that's correct. Hiei, you are right to tell Yusuke not to get cocky. But Kuwabara is also correct. You shouldn't underestimate Yusuke. I'm certain he's at least as strong as he was last time we met."
"Hm."
