Chapter 3
When I was done laughing Kurama and I had gotten to a cafe down the street from the Precinct. It was a small cafe that you could get food from too. I came here so often that I had my own tab. Also, the owner and chef here was an underground doctor that has done me a few favors. The hostess looked up as we entered. The place was empty and we were the only ones there. That's how I liked it. Plus it has more business at night.
"Yusuke!" The young hostess smiled. She had honey brown hair and brown eyes. "It is so good to see you!" She walked to me and Kurama with menus.
"The usual Misa," I said as I smiled at Kurama leading him to a booth beside the glass window. It was a one sided window, so people on the outside would see their reflection.
"A man with usuals...nice to see you coming out more Yusuke." Kurama teased. I smiled back at him. Atogi the chef nodded to me and I nodded back. Kurama put his elbows on the table and put his chin on his folded hands. "I have a question Yusuke..." I turned toward him and nodded. "What was Murakai talking about?" I heard a crash from the kitchen as I felt my face pale. "Yusuke...?" Kurama asked quietly. I sat up perfectly straight as I turned to the window and watched the rain. I saw my reflection and wasn't suprised. Pale skin, dark brown-black eyes, my hands were quivering slightly, and my lips became a lighter color.
"He's talking about the night I got my name as the 'Killer Urameshi' or 'Gunner Urameshi' whichever." I paused. I didn't want to remember that day so I decided to give him the short version. "To save his ass, I killed someone with a rifle. It is now the record distance at which someone can kill another human with rifle." I finished shortly as Atogi came out with two teas. He put one in front of Kurama and one in front of me.
"How did you...?" Kurama looked at Atogi.
"Yusuke talks a lot..." The older man smiled. He had salt and pepper hair and blue eyes. I sipped my tea silently. Kurama turned to me. Dammit, I thought he would forget about it.
"So...why was he bugging you about it Yusuke?" Kurama asked. Atogi raised an eyebrow.
"Murakai making trouble because of 'that' night?" I nodded to the man sighing slightly as I rubbed my eyes. I don't like talking with Atogi, he has ways of twisting words. "Did you tell your friend how old the kid you shot was?" Dammit Atogi! I glared at him. I hated him for bringing it up. Damn him to hell.
"Kid?" Kurama looked at me with serious eyes. I stared at him tiredly. I think my weariness showed with my regret of that night for his eyes softened slightly. "How old was this 'kid' Yusuke?" I whispered the age not wanting him to hear. "What did you say?"
"The boy that was threatening the hostages his gang had...the kid was only 14 maybe 15, Kurama." I said with a bit of edge in my voice. Now was not the time to discuss these matters. I was becoming frustrated. Sadly, I watched Kurama's eyes widened. At that moment I knew I had to get out of the cafe. I had to get home to relax. It was only about 12 maybe...I wouldn't know I don't wear a watch.
"Yusuke...how..." I stood up. Both Atogi and Kurama watched as I closed my weary eyes for a few moments, before opening them again. I could tell my eyes had looked renewed and set in determination and anger. Atogi was use to this, but I don't think Kurama was. Atogi stared at me. I glared at him.
"Put the drinks on my tab Doc.," I said not really looking at Kurama.
"I didn't mean any harm Yusuke." Kurama told me, but I wasn't listening. I heard my motorcyle rev outside and saw Lin with Puu. Dammit, the little guy must have been looking pissed off. But when Lin brought Puu in, I was suprised to see him the total opposite. He was smiling and flapped over to me. I grabbed him and stared. Kurama got up and looked at Puu.
"Hey Yusuke! Figured you come here, so I brought your bike. I had to hot wire it though." Lin said scratching the back of her head. She winked and stuck out her tongue. I can always trust Lin to make me feel better.
"Again? Jesus Lin, I can't keep my motorcycle around you anymore." I said. My finger touched the scar that was on Puu's back. Kurama noticed the motion and looked at the scar. It was in a shape of a cross. I don't feel like telling about it yet. But since Kurama was a kistune, his curiousity caused him to look at the scar. I gave him Puu and looked at Atogi. "Thanks for the help Atogi, but I have to go. You know...family stuff...." I grabbed the keys from Lin and quickly went outside. I didn't bother to get my helmet out. I need speed, I need the wind, I need to get the hell out of there.
I heard Lin's voice yell out to me as I took off but I didn't pay attention. I had to get away...Damn Kurama and his curiousity. And knowing Atogi he will explain. DAMN HIM TOO! Grr...why does my life suck?

I ran a hand through my hair as I walked up to my mother's apartment around two o'clock. It had stopped raining. Yea, I kind of needed some alone time. Unlike when I was younger...I had told my mom everything about the Reikai Tantei and about my friends. That's another reason she helped me buy a house, she wanted me to have some privacy. Who knew she was such a kind hearted woman? Oh yea...I did. I chuckled myself as I opened the apartment door. I looked down to see her putting her shoes on and smiled.
"Hey Mom," I said as she stood. She smiled back at me. She only drinks when she feels lonely, which isn't a lot since I try to visit her as much as I could. Yes, both of us have come a long way. "Ready to go?"
"Yea, come on before it gets any colder." She told me as she pushed me out the door and locked it. We walked to my motorcycle before heading to the park. I parked my bike and helped my mom off before we took off the helmets. She gently held my arm in a motherly way as we walked down our normal path.
After I got into a routine of visiting my mother often, we got a normal routine of going to the park. We would walk around the different paths, looking at the different flowers and trees, and relax. We would get away from the world that gave us to much pain and yet so much happiness. Poetic I know, I do read crap like that now. I'm not stupid, I just act like that.
"So how's work Yusuke?" She asked.
"Okay, Lin's been getting eager for a fight. So we have a spar tomorrow," I told her.
"That's nice," She stopped me by the White Orchids. Reaching a hand out she cupped one and leaned in smelling it. "So how are your dreams Yusuke?" I was silent for a bit before walking up beside her.
"I haven't gotten that much sleep." I explained. She looked at me sadly. "I've gotten my pills from Dr. A, don't worry, tonight will be the first night I get some good sleep."
"I can only hope." She removed her hand from the small Orchid and sighed. "I'm sorry I couldn't save you earlier Yusuke. The trauma he cause will never go away I guess..." I smiled sadly and reached up to a bigger Orchid and pulled it from the branch. My mother gave a sound of disapproval as I turned to her and put it behind her ear.
"You saved me before anything could get worse. Plus, its your job as my mother." I hugged her gently then stepped away. "Anyway, how about you? How's work?" My mother, Atsuko, smiled tearfully at me.
"Always one to change the subject when you get soft." She reached up and ruffled my hair.
"Aw...mother!" I said as I fixed my hair. She smiled at me as she turned and tugged my arm heading down the path again.
"Work is fine Yusuke. You should come visit me some time..." I looked down at her to see her staring at the various trees. I knew what was next...but why didn't she tell me earlier?
"Mom...do you need to borrow some money?" She looked up at me with her sad and big eyes. "You should have told me earlier." I ran a hand through my hair again. "Dammit, alright...alright...I'll give you some money tomorrow." I guess I'll have to skip my bills for a couple of weeks again. I looked at my mother and sighed. I smiled at her. As long as she's okay, I wouldn't mind living on the streets if I get kicked out of my house. "Same old stubborn woman..."
"With the same old stupid son..." We both smiled to each other and continued with our walk. We stopped a couple of times, my mother smelling the flowers or enjoying the view. As we started to round back, I grabbed my mother's arm in a tight grip. She nodded slightly and continued walking like nothing was wrong. She whispered to me in her lowest voice, "Do you know who it is?" Oh did I mention that I told her of my demon blood?
"Iie," I whispered back. I heard footsteps behind us. They were light. Someone knew how to crept, but they were also in a short stride. And due to my P.D. training this led me to believe that the person was short. I patted my mother's arm as we heard another set of footsteps. I think she knew that I was going to protect her. I decide to talk out loud to ease her a bit, she was too tense. "Oh, did I tell you? I got two months paid vacation...well...I'm kind of on call."
"That's nice, I guess I will be seeing more of you then?" She said tightening her her arm around me. I nodded smiling. We stopped before the cherry blossoms trees. After about a minute or two, the two people stopped behind us.
"Hey! Urameshi!" They called. Both, my mother and I, turned toward them. I stepped in front of my mother immediately sensing that these guys were demons.
"Lookie here mother, we got the honor to be in front of two lower class demons." I heard my mother chuckling. I smirked as the demons got frustrated.
"Did we make them mad?" My mother asked sweetly.
"Yes, I think we did..." I said as I watched the demons charge at us. I turned grabbed my mother and jumped up into the cherry blossom tree.
"Urameshi!" They called as they hacked at the tree. "You will pay for that thing you did to our boss." My mother held onto me tightly as I jumped back from the tree as the demons knocked it down. I held her behind me as I pointed my index finger out them.
"You shouldn't talk, it makes you sound stupid..." With that I fired my Reikai gun twice at them. They both were slammed back into the ground. I knew they were just unconscious, but hey...for once...Yusuke Urameshi didn't want to fight. "Damn lower class demons..."
"Have they been coming after you all week?" My mother asked.
"For about a month now...and I really haven't pissed anyone off lately." I scratched the back of my head. I really didn't think of it until just now. I mean, I know I had a local psychic put a demon ward on my house and property along with my mothers. This would keep the low class demons out, but why WERE they attacking. I thought about that for a while before I heard my mother shriek. I quickly turned with my fist glowing toward the direction my mother was facing.
"Now wait a minute! I'm just here to pick them up!" An overly happy voice said waving her arms about. It was Botan and before I said anything another voice yelled.
"You stupid grim reaper! Do you want me dead! I swear that's all you guys do! Try to give me a frickin' heart attack!" My mother took a deep breath. "I mean come on!" I chuckled as she glared at Botan who was sweating slightly as she floated back away from my mother.
"I see where you get your attitude from Yusuke..." Botan said looking up at me. My mother growling at her. "Nice to see you again..." She smiled. I turned my head away and saw the two demons disappear. Seems they wanted them fast. "Anyway...I see you are having fun. You wouldn't happen to want to go see Koenma do you Yusuke?" Botan asked meekly. I rolled my eyes.
"Hell no, tell the toddler I got other things to attend to," I grabbed my mother's arm and led her back toward my motorcycle. "And tell Hiei and Kurama to stop following me around the city!" I shouted as I broke into a run dragging my mother to the motorcycle. Dammit, any time Botan appears, I'm always pulled into something I don't want to be in.

"Thanks for the walk Yusuke...if you by chance can ask Lin if we can go to her estate in the country? The last visit was fun..." My mother smiled as she gave me a kiss on the cheek and a hug. "You be careful now and get some sleep. Call me if anything happens."
"You know me..."
"Yea, that's why I'm worried." I chuckled at that and nodded. "But seriously, Yusuke...If you have anymore nightmares please tell me." I saw the concern in her eyes that I haven't seen since I was five. I knew that she wanted to comfort me like she did when I was younger. "Please promise me..." She was begging me. I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Geez mom, you know I hate it when you do that. I'll be fine..." She just continued to stare at me. Oh...I hate that look... "ALRIGHT! Jesus...I'll give you a call just knock off the look." She lowered her head. Oh...I shouted---wait...is she laughing? YES! SHE'S LAUGHING! "MOTHER!" I yelled at her.
"I'm sorry Yusuke...but do be careful. With all these demons around after you, you don't know what will happen." She smiled. "Have a safe trip home." I nodded and waited until she closed and locked the door before heading downstairs to head home.

Once I got home I took a long shower and cooked some dinner. I cleaned up my mess and headed to my room with a glass of water. I took out the pills I got from Dr. A and looked at them. "Drink one before you go to bed..." Feh...sounds like something normal. Let's hope these herbs work on my head. I popped one in my mouth and drank some water. I swallowed the pill and water with ease. I laid in my bed with just my pants on...no I don't usually go to sleep nude. I just go to sleep without boxers and just pants. That person online...uh...what's her name SakuraPetall3 was right about just sleeping in pants. It was comfortable without being uncomfortable in boxers, but yet not being too revealed when nude. If you get what I mean. Personally I think there are peeping toms in this neighborhood. I put one hand behind my head and the other across my bare stomach. I closed my eyes and allowed myself to slip into the darkness known as sleep.
