Chapter 5
I pulled out a cigeratte and put it in my mouth as I watched my mother chase a man with light brown hair and violet eyes. This was Haru...he was 36 and a very annoying person when he wants to be. Kurama and Hiei stood by me as we continued to watch the show. I lit my cigarette and inhaled. This calmed my nerves slightly. I blew the smoke out then whistled. Both my mother and Haru stopped running, but since it was abrupt they both ended up on the ground. I rolled my eyes as Kurama chuckled.
"If you two are done flirting, can we please get our stuff to our rooms?" Haru and my mother blushed. I put my cigarette in my mouth and lifted my mother's and my bag. "Or are you guys gonna get your own room?" I grinned.
"Yusuke!" My mother came up and smacked me in my arm. I laughed from behind my cigarette. "Fine..." She snatched her bag and turned to go to her room.
"Yusuke-san, your guests rooms are beside yours. Would you mind taking them there as I do my chores?" Haru asked. I shrugged and looked at Kurama and Hiei.
"Follow me," I turned and headed up the nearest stairs. Kurama and Hiei followed me to the rooms. I checked the room to the left of my room, that was Kurama and the one to my right was Hiei. Oh goodie, I get sandwiched between them.
Well after I settled them in their rooms I retired to mine. I told Haru I was skipping dinner. So no problems there. I sat on my bed smoking a cigarette. My thoughts went to my dreams. Alright now lets try stupidity...I'm just having a continuous nightmares about my past that I tried to hide. Okay that sounds like logic...lets try that way in a Spirit Detective way. Something bad is going to happen that involves my past. Okay, I don't like the way that sounds. I took another drag of my cigarette and held it within my fingers as I blew out the smoke. I put the cigarette out in the ash tray and stood up. Stretching I looked out the glass doors toward the forest just before the mountain. Walking to it, I put my hand on the glass. Damn Takimori...I fisted my hand at my side. I had to remind myself that he was dead to keep some level of calmness. I didn't even noticed or hear Hiei enter the room.
"Hn..." I jumped. I turned to Hiei my eyes wide and my breathing uneven and quick. Hiei stared at me, his eyes widening slightly. I noticed that there was a tray of food on the dresser beside the door.
"Er...thanks Hiei..." I said trying to distract him from my appearance. DAMMIT! Even in death Takimori is ruining my life.
"Is something wrong Yusuke?" He asked in a monotone voice. I couldn't lie to Hiei...but hell to keep my secret between only my mother and me, I sure as hell will!
"Nothing, I'm fine Hiei." I forced myself to smile at him. "Since when is Hiei, the always cold one, care about me?"
"Hn..." Hiei stared at me. "I don't, I just don't want Kurama worrying about a ningen like you." Thanks Hiei that makes me feel better. I rolled my eyes at him. At least I know Kurama cares.
"Alright so...you gonna stay here or am I going to have to escort you out?" Hiei snorted and walked out. I stared at the food. I wasn't hungry. I haven't been feeling too well lately. Shit, these nightmares are getting to me.
I suddenly shivered. I couldn't tell if it was from coldness or something else. My eyes widened as I dropped to my knees remembering what Takimori had done.
---
Takimori...he had raped me and left me in the woods. Only my pants were intact. I had put them one and started my painful way to civilization, or at least where I thought it was. Hot tears ran down my face as I hiked through the woods. I didn't know where I was...all I knew is I was lost.
"Hello..." My small voice called out. What was I to do? I was just a small boy who was just raped and lost in the woods. "I want my mommy..." I cried as I continued to trek into further darkness.
"Who are you?" A figure asked. I looked up to see a shadow of a woman. "Are you lost?"
"Yes..." I whimpered out.
"Maybe I can---" Blood splattered on my face. My eyes widened as the figure fell away to reveal Takimori with a large sword.
"You can't escape Yusuke-chan....no one can help you!" He said as he rose the sword laughing. I screamed as it came down.
---
"YUSUKE!" I was jerked out my dream. I stared into my mother's worried eyes. "Are you alright?" I just stared at her not understanding what she was asking me. I looked up to see Kurama standing behind my mother. He looked worried too, what had I done? I turned to look at Hiei. His eyes were that of someone who was shocked.
"What happened?" I asked turning to my mother once again. She frowned.
"We found you on the ground clutching your head in pain Yusuke. You were crying...and then you screamed." I stared at my mother. "Did you dream?" She asked. I stared at the ground. No....it's now affecting me while I'm awake. I noticed my hands were on my mother's arms.
"Yusuke, what happened to you?" I heard Kurama ask. I shook my head, mainly to my mother.
"We have to tell someone Yusuke..." She said.
"Tell us what?" Hiei asked. I tighten my grip on her arms. She stared at me.
"Yusuke..." She murmured. I shook my head again. Why wasn't I talking you might ask? I was too frightened. These dreams were of a time far worst that my deaths. I noticed that my door was open. I needed to get away. So that's what I did. I slowly stood and stared at the ground.
"Gomen..." I dashed out of the door and headed to the stairs. I got there and heard them run after me. I stepped back a bit then dashed to the railing. I vaulted over the railing and landed on the ground in a roll. I sprang up and headed to the kitchen. I ran through it outside, I continued to the stables and whistled in a high pitched sound. In the paddock, a black stallion came racing over. I got on the fence and jumped on its bare back. I grabbed the reins; I guess someone had just given him some exercise.
"Yusuke!" I heard Kurama call. I didn't turn back as I jumped the fence. Staying low, I took the black stallion and raced into the forest toward the mountain. I needed some time to vent my fear and anger.
--- (Normal POV)
Kurama and Hiei stopped at the paddock and watched Yusuke disappear into the woods. Atsuko came up to them with a frown. "He's running away...like he did when he was younger..." She sighed and looked at Kurama and Hiei.
"From what?" Kurama asked. Hiei turned to look at Atsuko.
"His past...the memory of what his stepfather..." She paused before continuing. "Of what his stepfather did to him..."
"What did he do?" Hiei asked. He wanted to know why Yusuke looked so frightened. Not that he'd say it out loud, but the look in Yusuke's eyes shocked him. Fear...was something Hiei was not accustomed to seeing in the youth's eyes.
"Atsuko-san?" Kurama asked. Atsuko took a deep breath.
"Takimori...Yusuke's stepfather had custody of Yusuke until I could get him away." She looked both demons in the eye. "How do you think his reputation of being a punk started?"
"He told us he got into fights when he was younger..." Kurama said trailing off.
"Fights...yea...he would walk to school with some new injury almost everyday. If the injury was too much, Yusuke would skip school." She explained.
"Get injuries from what?" Hiei asked slowly.
"His stepfather...the fights he got into before I took him were always from his stepfather. Yusuke would try to fight back, but never win..."
"Wait...Yusuke was abused when he was younger?" Kurama was shocked. How could someone as free-willed and strong as Yusuke be abused?
"That's exactly what I'm saying. Takimori did things that you couldn't believe. I think he even killed a woman in front of Yusuke...he was only five at the time." She was crying now. "Please...you must help him and make sure nothing happens to him! He's having nightmares of Takimori...of what he was doing to Yusuke." She said grabbed Kurama and pleading for him to help her son. "I don't Yusuke to go through that again! He has forgotten about it until now...he's been through so much...I don't think he can handle reliving this!" Kurama wrapped his arms around Atsuko.
"We'll help Yusuke. Don't worry about it Atsuko-san." Kurama said looking at Hiei. 'We have to track Yusuke, before he hurts himself.'
'Agreed...' Hiei was shocked to find that Yusuke could hide something like that from him. The way Yusuke walked and held an air of confidence and cockiness around him. No one knew. Kurama released Atsuko.
"Go into the house, we'll bring Yusuke back." He assured her. Atsuko nodded and let her arm hug herself. "Come on Hiei..." Kurama and Hiei turned and raced off into the woods.
"Yusuke...please let them into your heart...though they might not know yet, they care for you..." She whispered as she turned and headed back inside.
--- (Yusuke's POV)
I slowed the stallion into a trot. This was ridiculous. I was running away from memories of a dead man. I sighed and rubbed my eyes. Maybe if I went to the usual spot I can get some much need rest. "YA!" I shouted as I lightly kicked the stallion in the sides. If anyone was wondering...the stallion's name is Ying. I stayed low on Ying as he dodged the trees heading up the mountain. He jumped over logs and ducked under low tree branches. I must be insane. I haven't been up here since I first became Lin's partner. Damn, I just got nicked in the face by a twig. That's just great. I slowed the stallion again into a trot. We were by water, I could hear it. Getting out of the forest, Ying and I looked up to a wall of waterfalls. I sighed, destination reached. I dismounted from the stallion and walked toward the lake they were pouring into. I slowly waded into the water then climbed up until I was under the falls directly above the lake. I didn't bother to remove my shirt, not with Kurama and Hiei searching for me. They'd see my scars. I rather not have that. I hope my mother didn't tell them.
I closed my eyes and tilted my head up so the water landed on my eyes and ran down my body. That's when I let my restraints on my spirit energy that's been pent up go. I felt my demon side clawing to get out, so I divert some energy to hold that back. I felt the water react to my spirit energy and move away from my body.
'I've been waiting for you to do that...' A voice said in my mind. 'Do remember Yusuke, you are nothing more that an old tool that will be found by his master.' I didn't understand what the man meant or even who he was. I did know that I was swaying on the edge of the cliff.
"Yusuke!" I hate that...my name is being shouted at me lately. I felt myself pitch forward toward the lake below. I heard or thought I heard Kurama's voice. He was always one I liked to spend time with and didn't mind his company...Hiei too, but don't tell him. I felt the water encase my body in its icy coldness. I drifted down as I stared lifelessly at the surface. I reached my hand up trying to keep my grip on reality as I felt myself dream again.
---
I gasped and coughed as Takimori pulled my head out of the bathtub. Sputtering, I tried to plead to him not to make me go back under. He growled and forcefully kissed my lips. He then plunged my small head back into the freezing cold water he had filled the tub with. After about a minute he pulled me back out. "Dad...dad Please!"
"NEVER CALL ME THAT YOU BASTARD!" He yelled at me pushing me back under. "I never wanted you! No one will want you! Remember that! No matter how much they say they do they won't want you! They fuck you then leave you." I cried, even underwater. He pulled me out of the tub and threw me into the mirror making it shatter around my small body. The mirror shards that fell cut my skin and left me bleeding. "Now, clean yourself up and make my dinner brat." I watched as he walked away muttering something like stupid bastard. That's when everything got dark.
---
I gained consciousness and coughed into someone's mouth. They pulled away and allowed me to roll to my side. I coughed up water. I felt someone rub my back trying to calm down my coughing. I'm surprised, with how hard I was coughing...I thought I would hack up a lung. I shivered from the coldness that hit me. I grabbed my arms and rubbed them, curling up trying to warm myself up.
"Here..." I felt something being draped around my body. I looked up to see Hiei putting his cloak around me.
"Hiei...?" I whispered looking up at him. He stared down at me as though he didn't know who I was.
"That was a very foolish stunt Yusuke..." I turned to see Kurama at my back. He smiled at me. "Glad to know I got to you before you inhaled too much water." I blushed at that. Kurama was the one who did CPR...I think I'm going to die of embarrassment.
