I'll never forget the time I got caught stealing watermelons from old Mr. Barnslow's
watermelon patch. I was with my friend Bobby. We were giggling so hard I thought I'd wet
my pants! At first we tried to steal two watermelons each, but they were too heavy and we
dropped them, and that made us laugh even harder. Finally, we each picked out a good one,
and we were just about to sneak back through the fence when we heard a low, deep voice
behind us. "Just where do you think you're going with those watermelons?" I gulped and
turned around. It was old Mr. Barnslow, pointing his shotgun at us. Bobby dropped his
watermelon, then pulled out the .38 revolver he kept in his waist, turned, and fired.
But the turning must have thrown off his aim, because the shot only hit Mr. Barnslow
in the thigh. Mr. Barnslow immediately fired both barrels at Bobby. One blast of buckshot
missed entirely, but the other tore into Bobby's shoulder. He tried to fire back, but his
shoulder was so torn up he couldn't raise his arm. Just as he was trying to switch to his
left hand, Mr. Barnslow ran up and cracked him across the face with the butt of his shotgun.
Bobby fell to the ground in a heap. Mr. Barnslow raised the butt of his gun to finish him off,
but just then Bobby pulled out his hunting knife and plunged it into the farmer's big white
belly. After that, I don't think I stole watermelons for at least a year.

And now, back to the story

Nyx woke up feeling slightly better, but she had no idea why. She rubbed her head "Now that was a odd dream" "What was?" Came a reply. She looked up quickly, but saw it was only Mika. She sighed in relief. But then she remembered fully what happened. She gulped and looked up. Mika had a funny look in her eyes. Nyx sighed and sat up. "What do you want to know?"
"First, what the hell are you? Caus you sure as hell are NOT human to take down Arata like that and the girls downstairs are saying the latest rumors are that you are some kind of rare singing demon, sent here to cast us all into the firey pits of hell for 'our wicked ways'. Second, Why didn't you tell me? I would've kept your secret."
Nyx sighed, she saw the hurt in her friends eyes. She drew in a breathe to answer. "Well part of that is true, I am a rare demon, a Volitant Siren Demon" She heard Mika gasp and looked at her friend. She really hoped that that wasn't awe she saw in her eyes, she needed a friend, not an admirer. "Mika, please, it's nothing to get excited over, especially me, I'm the rea-" She was inturrupted by a sharp knock on the door. She looked at it fearfully as Mika got up to answer it. In the doorway was a serving girl, Sarah. She was a timid cat demon that wasn't really what Nyx would call a friend, but she wasn't an enemy either. "Boss wants me to tell you that Kali still has to sing tonite, and if she refuses then he said to remind you of the talk that you two had earlier." Nyx felt the color drain from her face as Sarah left.
"To answer your second question, I didn't tell you because whenever I tell someone, something bad happens or they try to use me, I'm sorry, I didn't want anything to happen to you."

"Well, we better get you ready, you can talk as I'm helping you." "First, what happened to you? You look a little out of it" "Well a lot of it is shock, when I went home yesterday I-I-I found my house in ruins, and my fathers body amoung them, he was torn up." Tears began to roll down her cheeks as she said that. Nyx immediatly went to her friend and hugged her. "Hey look at the bright side, you can escape with me now, there's no reason for either of us to be here." Mika took to the idea immediately.
"Yeah! I can quite and use the money I saved up, then tonite you can fly out the window and..." She stopped when she saw the look on her friends face. "What's the matter?" "He-Boss-clipped my wings." Now it was Mika's turn to give her friend a hug. When she had regained her composure she said "They'll grow back in about a month or two, birds grow back in about 6, so I'm hoping he won't realize that I'm not a bird." "Sarah told me she heard him talking, he knows what you are, well what demon grew up without hearing stories of the sirens? He figured you must be the 'Last volitant ones'. He seems to think that you're worth a lot of money and he wants to try to sell you to the highest bidder. But then he realized that you could do wonders for his business, so you don't have to worry about him selling you I guess." Nyx sighed, "I figured it would eventually come to this, I knew I couldn't keep it hidden forever. If you would do me the favor of not telling anyone about my wings being clipped, I know it's silly but....I'm ashamed of them." She hung her head. Mika patted her back. "Oh honey, it's nothing to be ashamed of, you could have done nothing to stop him, maybe we'll get lucky and our knights in shining armor will come rescue us" "What do you mean us?" "Well I'm not about to leave you here by yourself, your my only family now" Nyx looked at her friend with grateful eyes. "Now come on, let's get you ready for tonites show. To bad that spirit cuff is holding you back from using your power, or else we'd escape a lot faster." Nyx was speechless, the only other person who had ever been this kind to her was her little sister, and ever since her death she had had trouble getting close to anyone. In a weird was she was glad that Jorge had caught her, if he hadn't she would have never known her spunky friend. Seeing that her friend was at a loss for words, she wondered briefly what HAD happened to her to cause her to not be able to get close to anyone. She figured that Nyx would tell her later, she had almost before they were inturruped. She had a sudden idea that might make her feel better "Hey Nyx, have you ever had a blood sister?" (A/N: I have 2, it really brings ya closer together, but I wouldn't really recomend it with the new disease and junk and ok I'll shut up now)

<With the YYH>

They were getting closer, Hiei could feel it. They would make it there within 3 hours. Excitment was begining to grow in the pit of his stomach. He had no idea why, he just felt that something...unusual was going to happen when they arrived. He picked up the pace. "Hurry up you bakas, we're almost there" He didn't wait for the others replys, he just sped up till he was barely in sight. Kurama seemed to sense his friends urgency and he wondered where it had came from. He thought back to what his friend had told him about his dream. He felt that they were somehow connected. He kept his thoughts to himself as he picked up speed to keep up with his friend. He was begining to pick up the same feeling. He didn't think this was an ordinary rescue mission. He remained silent as he tried to keep in pace with his short friend.

<Back with Nyx> (Nyx's P.O.V.)

Tonight Mika had pulled all the stops on getting me dressed. She said since today was the day they had decided to escape, she should I sing something special and dress better then usual. After she told me that she suggested that we become blood sisters. At my clueless expression she explained its where two people cut or prick themselves hard enough to draw blood then they press the wounds together to mix the blood, binding them as 'sisters' forever. I glanced down at my slightly paler-then-normal thumb. I had a sister again, and we would soon escape. It wasn't just that that made me excited. Ever since I had woken up I had felt something approaching. I had a feeling change was coming, tonight was going to be something. That's part of the reason why I had agreed to dress up more then usual tonight, ever since that dream I had a feeling something was going to happen. I didn't share my feeling with Mika, even though we were sisters now I didn't want to get her hopes up. We fed off eachothers excitement, until neither of us could sit still. I knew what songs I was going to sing. It was one my mom would sing to me when I came home crying, after the others had picked on me. It was short but had a way of lifting ones spirits. I forced those thoughts aside, I didn't want to think about anything that would ruin my excitement for tonight. The other was a song that I had composed while I was captive here. When inspired I couldn't sit still or sleep until I was finished. Even though I had plans of rescuing myself, now Mika was in the picture, for her it wouldn't really be escaping, but maybe it would. Boss knew that her and I had gotten really close, and he knew that he could use her against me, so she would have to escape also I concluded. It was going to be tough, I asked Mika to wear my trenchcoat, with the clothes I had been wearing concealed in it, in case of anything. Her instincts rarely went this haywire just because.

The dress Mika forced me to wear was a deep purple, that matched my eyes. Once again it was low cut, both in the front and the back. It shimmered in the light, and had two slits up the sides up to my midthighs. It's bindings went up and attached around my throat, kind of like a halter top. My hair was piled up on my head, with a few pieces let down to frame my face. Since my hair was naturally curly she didn't have to put any hair supplies in my hair. I thanked God once again that I didn't need that kind of stuff. I detested makeup and hair junk. The occasional eyeliner, massacra, and lip gloss were all I ever usually wore. Eyeshadow on rare occasion. It never made sense to me, putting on makeup was a degree of hiding who you were in my opinion, unless it accented (is that the right one?) what was there. Boss suggested I sing with my wings out, and I snorted in his face. "What if one of the demons in the bar tried to get at me? Wouldn't I be more valueable in one piece?" My voice dripped in sarcasm. He threatened to slap me but then thought better of it, seeing how it wouldn't be very attractive if I went out there to sing with a red handprint on my face. Suddenly I found myself behind the stage again. 'How the hell do I always get here so quickly' ran through my head as I took a deep breathe. I decided to sing the song I had written first, and the one my mom used to sing to me last. I would sing her song first. I took another deep breathe as I stepped out onto the stage. Instead of the usual applause I was met by what seemed to be an endless sea of eyes, it seemed everyone there tonight had come not only because of my talent, but because of my reputation. 'Shit, it's goning to be really hard to disappear after this' ran through my head when the first note sounded from the band. I took another breath and began. (I don't own this song either)((I love this song, its from shrek 2, which I also do not own)

Where have all the good men gone
and where are all the gods
Wheres the street wise Hercules
to fight the rising odds
Isn't there a white night
upon a firey steed
Late at night I toss and turn
and dream of what I need

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
Hes got to be strong
And hes got to be fast
And hes got to be fresh from the fight

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
Hes got to sure
And hes got to be soon
And hes got to be larger then life

Somewhere after midnight
in my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder
Rising with the heat
Its gonna take superman to sweep me off my feet

Where the mountains meet the heavens above
And were the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
and the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach like a fire
In my blood

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
Hes got to be sure
And hes got to be soon
And hes got to be larger then life

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
Hes got to be strong
And hes got to be fast
And hes got to be fresh from the fight

I need a hero

The song faded away to cheer and catcalls from the demons assembled, she gave them a contempt look, they were so bamboozled by her voice they didn't pay attention to the lyrics. Well, maybe not all of them, she thought as she cast a glance at Arata. He had a deep scowl on his face, but that could be due to the fact that she had escaped from his grasp.I tried not to show my disgust for them and I scanned the crowd for Mika. I saw her walking away from Arata's table with a look of disgust on her face. She caught my stare and made a face. I choked back the giggle and readied myself for the next song.

<With the YYH> (Hiei's P.O.V.)

We were really close now, and my sensitive ears were picking up some music. And then suddenly we were there. The baka demon at the door wouldn't let us in, no doubt he recongized us from the dark tournament. He was rather ugly, being this ugly green color with huge ears. I offered to give him some surgery to make him look better if he wouldn't let us in. He still refused, but was cut short tragically when my katana cut off his head. (Haha, no more Jorge) Inside I could hear another song begining to start. Though both of us refused to admit it, both Kurama and I wanted to hear the Siren sing, we heard the tales all the time growing up, and we wanted to see if the actual being lived up to the myth. "Hiei, please don't go barging in there and start cutting heads, let's try being subtle" Kurama whispered in my ear. *Baka Kistune (SP?) sooner or later we are going to use force, it would be easier to kill them all then get the girl and go* (He's talking using tele. if you didn't catch that) #Yeah, but I'd rather it be later rather then sooner, I bet she's not the only demon he's captured, what if there are others?# I snorted my contempt for weaklings that couldn't escape this shabby looking place but resigned. Kurama usual had a good head on his shoulders. He slowly opened the door and we walked in, the bakas being quiet for once.
